| the name rocks. Let's face it. it IS better than all of those contrived names that people are making up with "ie" at the end! What if they named the kid Shailey or Shylie or something? We probably wouldn't say anything because it is so trendy.

| Shiloh Nouvel Just doesn't sound very good IMO together. Shiloh does make me think of dogs and Nouvel makes me think of belly buttons. Shiloh sounds American and Nouvel sounds foreign. To me that's like naming someone John Manuel or Marsha Svetlana. But they can name their baby whatever they want, it's the baby that has to deal with it a whole lifetime. |

Sorry, I used to help run a baby names forum that was just as big as this so I get all worked up about names. I LOVE when names are rooted in historical context (like Shiloh) or when they even are inanimate objects that mean something to the parents (like Apple). Even if they are "strange", at least they're not overly common like all of our names.

| i think it depends on the name, like my sisters name is Dominique and everyone calles her Domi, and i think its a pretty name! i actually spell my name Nikki, just cause its more fun a very uncommon name could be the prettiest name in the world while a common name might not be so pretty, like Marsha (no offense anyone) it makes me think of aliens.

I didn't like my name much because my own mom could never pronounce Cheryl right. So after bootcamp I made it easier on her and everyone else and told them to just call me Cher. It sounded cooler to me and I figured people would remember it better. | |

| Here is Yahoo's Article on the Birth Sat May 27,10:58 PM ET And, lo, she has come to pass, the most celebrated of celebrity babies: Shiloh Nouvel Pitt-Jolie. Angelina Jolie gave birth to Shiloah, a girl, Saturday night in Namibia, a statement from Brad Pitt's publicist said. There were no details on how mother, baby and Pitt were doing. The girl is the third for Jolie, 30, who previously adopted tots from Cambodia and Ethiopia, respectively. It is the first biological child for her and Pitt, 42, the Oscar-winning actress' offscreen costar. Shiloh is a name of Hebrew origin meaning, "His gift," per thinkbabynames.com. It also associated with an 1862 Civil War battle, and a Neil Diamond song about a desperately lonely childhood. (Diamond's imaginary friend, however, spelled his name "Shilo.") Shiloh's future classmates at Hollywood Montessori potentially include: Suri (Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes); Zolten and Moxie CrimeFighter (Mr. and Mrs. Penn Jillette); and, Moses and Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow-Chris Martin). While Shiloh's parents have yet to marry, they are already entrenched in family life. In January, Jolie's two older children, Maddox and Zahara, formally added Pitt's surname to theirs. Pitt is in the process of becoming Maddox and Zahara's adoptive father. Jolie and Pitt met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, their 2005 action hit. They've been an item since Pitt split with then-wife Jennifer Aniston in early 2005. Though a Hollywood couple in the figurative sense, for the last several weeks, Jolie and Pitt have been a Namibian couple, holing up in that African republic to await the arrival of the baby. An ongoing Namibian radio station poll showed approval by a 52-48 margin Saturday that Jolie's birth day be declared a public holiday. Jolie recently completed filming on the CIA saga The Good Shepherd, opposite Matt Damon and Robert De Niro. It was on the location set of that film that Jolie last January let slip that she was expecting. Pitt is due to earn money for his growing family in Ocean's Thirteen, the latest heist in the Ocean's Eleven saga.
