i think it depends on the name, like my sisters name is Dominique and everyone calles her Domi, and i think its a pretty name! i actually spell my name Nikki, just cause its more fun
a very uncommon name could be the prettiest name in the world while a common name might not be so pretty, like Marsha (no offense anyone) it makes me think of aliens.
