| Anyone else suffer from Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? It's also called Hypothyroidism. It's a thyroid condition. I was diagnosed and am still learning a lot about it. Anyone else have this condition? I just got back on my meds. I hadn't been taking them and got very sick and very reprimanded by my doctor but now I'm back on and doing well. Any Hashi's out there?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Mom has an over active Thyroid and it wasn't diagnosed until she was down to 80 Lbs. She got back up to 85 lbs but recently was sick and got down to 79 lbs and is now at 81 lbs. She is 86 years old, but I think they aren't regulating her meds even though her test comes back OK. You must take your medicine!!!!

| I'm just scared that I would have trouble conceiving a child. I need some supplements to help me or maybe a change of diet. I have lost weight which is the opposite of whats supposed to happen but everything else has happened in terms of the symptoms.

| I was diagnosed with it 3 years ago and my mom has had it for like 15 years and my grandma just got diagnosed with it this year. I am constantly forgetting to take my medicine because I have the worst memory ever(which is a symptom of hypothryoid by the way) and so my levels are never stable. I always have muscle cramps, always cold, and always tired. Im taking synthroid is that what you are taking?

| I have hypothyroidism too. I've known for about 4 years or so and once you start taking the meds you're on them for life. I take synthroid and I met with a specialist once and he told me to NEVER take the generic brand. Just a bit of advice I thought that I'd pass along. You have to make sure that you take your meds every day and have your levels tested at least once a year. Before I found out that I had this I had the coldest winter ever. My hands and feet were so cold and I even had trouble warming the bed up when I would go to bed. That was the worst symptom for me. This also makes you have a slow metabolism and so weight gain is usually a problem. I know for me, I'm not very energetic and I have a huge problem with my weight. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

| Another bit of advice I have learned- dont ever take your medicine with orange juice. Orance juice breaks down synthroid so you dont end up getting the full amount of your medicine.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Nobella - my mom's taken Thyroid medication her whole life - it IS a daily committment - and I take Armour Thyroid - I realized I had a problem when my hair started falling out - so don't forget your medication and it shouldn't interfer with pregnancy - |

| So I take Levothyroid. They gave me a little pill bin which is labeled M-F (I feel like such an old lady). I leave it on my bathroom counter and take one the minute I get up, because I know it will be at least an hour from the time I wake up until I eat. I have lost weight though, that is the only symptom that is backwards for me. I went from a size 5-6 to a size 1-2. It's not a huge shift in my weight in terms of numbers but more inches off my hips, waist and thighs (NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH....lol) I don't really know if that's associated with it though. I am cold ALLLL the time, and I was forgetting my medicine all the time and my body started doing weird things. I was waking up in the middle of the night throwing up. My drive went from 10 to 1 (the "SPECIAL" kind of drive), and big time loss of memory. I went on this forum where people were talking about miscarriages they've had because their TSH was low or high, and that they were having trouble conceiving. So it scared me a bit but good to know there are lots of people having many babies with no disruptions. I'm glad I started this thread. Does anyone take special supplements or incorporate special things in their diets?

Being cold is one of the major symptoms of under-active thyroid. I thought that I was going to freeze to death before I found out that I had a problem. I still don't enjoy being outside when it's even the slightest bit cool. My family's gotten used to mom being over dressed and having blankets all over the living room. They "do" have a problem with the heater being turned up!! I did have a miscarriage and I wonder now if it was because I was having troubles then. I was able to get pregnant a year later and had a beautiful little girl (she just turned 14!!) A few years later I was treated for being pre-menopausal. I actually wasn't but an underactive thyroid can look like you're starting through menopause. I assume you can probably get pregnant while on your meds. I would talk to your doctor and ask them any questions that you have before you get pregnant. I didn't find out that I had thyroid problems until about 5 years ago or so. I didn't even know any of my family that had it. Later I found out that I have 2 aunts that have hypothyroidism, but their symptoms were not as severe as mine. Sorry about going on and making this so long. You asked about special supplements or adding anything special to my diet. No, I don't. I really should get more exercise and watch what I eat better because I have an extremely slow metabolism. All I know is to make sure that you stay on your meds, take them everyday, and have your levels checked at least once a year!!! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask!!

| Thanks Diana. I definetely don't think I have an overactive thyroid. My doc agreed it's definetely underactive. That my weight loss could just be from exercising, ect. But I just got my blood taken on friday, and she said I will have another blood test needed in two weeks. The blood test last week will have results without my meds because I just got them refilled and the blood tests in two weeks will include my levels with my meds. Everything I have sounds like the symptom. I have an elarged thyroid gland called a goiter too. You can't see it but if you touch my neck, you can feel the enlargement. But when I'm on my meds everyday, it goes down a lot. I am definetely taking this more seriously now, since I know what's at risk. I am taking my pills on time everyday. I've heard a lot about Armour medication. Is one necessarily better than another? Why is generic bad? I have no idea if mine a generic one or not.

I have a lot of the same symptoms and problems as you, memory loss is a big one for me, loss concept of time, Im really spacey, cold all the time, lack of engery, loss of drive, and muscle cramps is another big one that I get and it doesnt affect my weight at all which is really strange since this is one of the biggest symptoms of this illness. Ive actually never experience any weight gain since I havce been diagnosed with hypothyroid and people always think I have hyperthyroid because of that but I dont. I take 150 mcg of sythroid. I also take vitamin B complex to help with energy. Thats what my doctor told me to take and I think it is suppose to help with the memory too(cant exactly remember, lol). I now have high cholestoral too and I was reading last week that hypothyroid can really affect the cholestoral and make the levels higher so you have to watch that.
