Not only is it not allowed, I find it rude and annoying. Who wants to be subjected to some strangers business. In a matter of moments they will be in the terminal where I think it's more appropriate.

A quick discreet call is one thing. I'm talking about the loud, long calls that are so common. I just don't care to hear their life's drama.
That's exactly what I'm saying!!! Be polite about it. Go into a corner and speak quietly. I iuse my cell a lot too. I have a 6 year old and coordinate a lot of stuff for him, my husband will check in, I have to call vendors, my friends call...BUT, I either take the call quietly or if I am not in a place where I can talk, I turn the ringer off or answer and tell them if it isn't an emergency, I'll call them when it is appropriate to talk.

I just think that manners have all but disappeared from this society and it is disheartening

I don't mean anything against kids this age, but what is so pressing that they have to have access to a phone to talk to their friends at all times?! I think that is going way too far. I'm all for the prepaid phones with (very) limited minutes for older kids in high school (I had one to call my mom to call and ask her to pick me up after games, incase of an emergency, etc.), but other than that, I think it's just too much.

Okay... that got me thinking of another one! (Please allow me one snobby rant for the day!) What is with young girls carrying (or feeling the need to carry) designer bags?! I always thought of the designer names as something professional women carried- something I could aspire to be able to attain by working hard. Now, they can be seen all over the halls of high schools across America. I love purses, and although some could argue that spending hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on a single bag is crazy, I love purses. I just think it instils a materialistic desire in children way too early. Women can work hard to be able to afford the purse- children just expect (and get) their parents to shell out the cash for one. Now, there will be exceptions where parents use it as a reward for good grades or whatever, and while I still don't agree with high school or middle school girls needing to carry one, it at least instils a little work-ethic in kids.
good point on the kid issue...You see that one kid cell phone thats out..they can ONLY call the numbers that the parents put in there and than they have one for 911. I think thats a good one but they need to be older tham my kid. Shes only 7 and thats too young for them. My daughter is always saying well my friends have cell phones and I say when your old enough to take respnsibility for one I'll get you one but it will be a prepaid... I dont give my kids designer stuff...Cheyanne (my 7 yr old) has been saving for these crock shoes...shes half way but knows she has to do chores and earn money to get them.

Wow, that's sad! I'm not that important, nor do I feel the need to fake the funk! I'm with you, Sherry Lynn, my bf and I just have the cells.

Gerry, I must admit that I'm the girlfriend that demands that my bf call me as soon as his plane lands. While I can manage a flight for myself and remain sane, I nearly have panic attacks when my family flies without me! Granted, I don't want to actually have a conversation with whomever is flying, just a quick "I'm here safe. Love you, bye" is fine with me when they land in another city. Even a text message will do.

Worse....my desk and the one my computer's on are two different desks....because I am sitting at the computer does NOT mean you may sit down at the other and rummage through papers on MY desk. It's not any of your business.

Btw, my middle school daughter asked for a cell phone. The answer was no, I am not paying for you to talk on a cell phone in the house, when we have a landline for that purpose. And as someone whose has these age kids in the house....if I thought the peas conversations were bad....theirs border on ridiculous..."you think so and so's cute, no so and so's cuter, yea he is, well I think he is, more blah, blah blah.

We did this with dd. I've forgotten WHAT it was she even wanted. But let me tell ya.....she changed her mind once she had the $$$. Nothing makes them rethink a purchase like spending their own money for it

We have a little store that caters to the teen age crowd. Took dd in with a gift certificate to spend....took her a week to decide....the owner told me that he can always tell when kids are spending their money vs their parents

<<banging head on desk>> Your 7-year-old's friends have cell phones?! That's far worse than I thought! My goodness, pretty soon parents are going to be setting up their family plans while the child is still in the womb! Good for your daughter earning her stuff. She'll be so proud of herself when she earns the money for them and will probably value them so much more than if they were just handed to her.

If you lived in Florida, I might have suspected you were listening to my sister! She'll call when she's in Walmart shopping because she's bored. My mother and I dread these phone calls. It's like she just called to give the play-by-play of her shopping experience! I'm always like, "Jen- did you actually need anything?!" I can't stand going grocery shopping for myself, why the heck do I want to share in her experience?!

yeah that usually happens..she will save and save and than when it is time to go what she wants to get she usually backs out but I think this time she will because she wants thes crocks sooo bad and knows mom and dad will not buy them for her.. I guess you have to know me..Im very very simple...I do not buy designer clothes. If I do its at a garage sale usually. I do have a pair of k-swiss but thats because my husband made me because my other shoes were falling apart . I dont think a kid needs TOMMY everything. My 7 yr old nieces say well, look at my tommy jeans and my tommy shirt...thats down right sad if you ask me. My kid get nice stuff dont get me wrong but its gotta be practical im not going to spend 40.00 on 1 pair of jeans for my kids when I dont do that for myself. I personally think it sends them the wrong message. JMO..Off topic and Im sorry just venting i guess!

Oh those cell calls,, I have a friend who works about 2 hours from home, so on her way home she calls to talk for hours,,cause she is driving home and has nothing else to do,, Unlike me! It burns me. Then she'll hit dead areas and the call will drop and then she calls right back,, I usually dont answer then! Thank God for caller id.. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Once I was in the grocery store and there was a girl on her cell must have been talking to hubby or BF, but everything she looked at on the shelf she would say .. do we need butter,, do we need salt, do we need noodles...UGHHH! I wanted to scream.. MAKE A LIST, Sweetheart!
I can only imagine the excitement to be the person on the other end... shopping vicariously through the phone. That is excitement! How bored would you have to be??

Pet Peeves:
-people who drive 35 miles under the speed limit on a single lane road. It drives me nuts!!! Of course it always happens when I am in a hurry or when my daughter is screaming her head off in the car.
- When friends come over and they don't pay attention to their kids and I spend the whole visit watching their kids and mine too.
-Now this one really urks me, when a baby drops a passifier or bottle and the parent just puts the nipple in their mouth to clean it off and gives it back to the child. That is just gross!!!! Might as well just roll it around in a peitrie dish full of germs and then give it back to your child.

These are the ones bothering me at the moment, but there are plenty more that pop up every day!

I don't have to worry about buying Tommy anything. It is NOT wanted or worn by dd or her friends....now Albercombie and Fitch is another story.
