| Heart Attacks I know that this is extremely off topic but I feel that it's important for us to be educated about our health, bc if we can't take care of our yorkies, who will?! I'm studying to be an Occupational Therapist and today in class, one of the topics we talked about was Myocardial Infarction (aka heart attack). I never realized until today that Women's symptoms are generally different than a man's, and knowing these symptoms can save your life! The symptoms that everyone usually hear about are crushing chest pain, pain shooting down the arm, feelings of indigestion, etc. HOWEVER, in women, the symptoms can often resemble the flu (nausea, lightheadedness) and be accompanied by severe pain in the back like someone is stabbing you. My teacher's mother had these symptoms, but no traditional ones and the Dr. told her that if she waited 15minutes longer, she would have died. More women than men die of this bc they aren't educated about the symptoms and don't go to the doctor in time. Please pass the word on, you could save someone's life.

| I also wanted to add that women can still have the general "male" symptoms they are just more likely to have the ones I listed. Also, your body will be sending you signals as much as days or weeks in advance, if you're feeling "out of it" please don't assume it's nothing. Sorry to ramble. There's just been someone recently who passed away (no one i know personally) that was a woman and only 45. If she would have been aware of these symptoms, she could still be alive.

| Very Important Information For Women! A couple other symptoms for women are pain in the neck, pain in the jaw and also difficulty breathing and sweating. I had my heart attack in the middle of the night while I was asleep and it felt like I had an "elephant" on my chest. Doctors used to only do their tests on the men and now they've been doing them on women also.

| I would get checked out by your doctor but it sounds like you are having the "sweats" from menopause. Are you "IN" menopause???

| Thanks for posting this...Things like this help raise awareness, and maybe someone who's having symptoms may have it checked out and it may save their life.

| I wish that I had known these symptoms before I had my heart attack although I don't remember having any advanced warnings. I was just in a very stressful job that I so happened to love! Very important point to bring out here: If you're still working, please DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and make sure that you get the short term disability insurance PLUS long term disability insurance. It could save you and your home, etc. It's very cheap to get. Don't ever say that it can't happen to you. If you're still smoking, you may want to SERIOUSLY think about quitting especially if you have cardiac problems in your family. Heart problems are hereditary just as is diabetes. (A little off subject but all related)

| I also wanted to add that my little sister went into menopause at 16 years old, so there is no set age when it occurs, everyone is different.

| One other symptom of heart attack in women is inability to sleep or a change in sleep patterns and yes, it will start weeks or a month before the heart attack will occur. Yes, you are probably pre or peri menopausal at age 43. I was. Pre and peri menopause can last for several years. You are only post menopausal when you have been without a period for 1 full year. I went for 11 months without one, then I had one, and only one - but I couldn't be considered through or post-menopausal for another year! Anyway, it is very good that Sarah posted the s/s of heart disease in women - this is VERY important information!
