| We got our tree today! Well, it is up and sparkling! We drove up the mountain and got our Christmas tree today, listening to Christmas music and pointing out every icicle and frozen waterfall along the way. Thanksgiving was pretty great at our house this year and I even participated (a little bit) in Black Friday and enjoyed a trip to jo ann fabrics- it was super fun! One of my sons and one of my daughters went fishing with their grandpa so we had beautiful rainbow trout for dinner tonight that my kids caught (yay kids!) and then stayed up stringing cranberries and popcorn for the tree and making paper snowflakes. We had such a nice time- lol, and yes all while enjoying various Christmas music (it was mostly Irish instrumental during the evening). What did you do?? what kind of traditions does your family participate in? Do you get a tree (or set one up) and if so- is it up yet? Another highlight of my weekend is that the holiday card exchange list was sent! It officially feels like the holidays to me

| Oh, that sounds like you had a nice family time decorating the tree! Those are the best times, when its a family event. We would always put on a christmas movie and decorate it together. Ive not got my tree up yet. Its just not the same doing it by myself, now my kids are grown and gone. I did put up the outside lights yesterday, as the weather was mild here in Michigan. A whole strand of icicle lights didnt work, so it took some adjusting on the roofline, and some creative stretching around corners. And the lights on my door wreath and one of my small urn trees on the front porch dont work, so i bought new lights last night, and plan to go put those on today.

| It seems that with six kids around, Decorating a tree at our house is an organic, living thing that grows and changes until it is over- especially since four of them are little boys! Lol- we make most of our ornaments and in particular my special needs six year old just can't keep his hands off of them! Cranberries dry and popcorn breaks off, paper chains rip and cloven mandarins just don't seem to preserve for us (maybe repeated pokes by emphatic children?..) so all tht said- I didn't actually take a picture of the tree! ha ha ha, one day perhaps I will have the silver and gold matching decor (I think it is beautiful) and be able to display finely crafted glass ornaments - I adore those treasures and truly miss them- but for now it is the moments that I have, and they tend to be rather lively! I did happen to take a few pictures of those...

| sounds like your Thanksgiving was filled with love and fun and you have much to be thankful for. I do not have any kids all my family lives 600 miles away and myhusband works long hours at his job and then more on his various home projects, so he never has time to help. I am a glitz and glitter person with a house full of trees that all themed and LOL perfect, but through the years it has become a "chore" that I have grown to hate, for the last two years I even hired someone to do the bulk of the work from pictures I had. This year I have decided that if decorating for Christmas felt more like a root canal than warm and fuzzy I would just not do it, and I can't tell you how giving myself permission to skip it has made me feel more in the spirit than in years past. Normally I hate to got anywhere on Thanksgiving since the whole weekend is reserved for decorating, but this year we went to NY to see my family and for Christmas we are going to Nashville to visit my husband's sister and family who I am very close with. I also plan to attend more Christmas parties and Church music programs, so I will get my Christmas spirit there not in a home filled with fancy Christmas décor. Reading your post made me think about what is really important and that is family and how you can make the simplest things spectacular, you are creating memories your children will remember forever which is worth much more than a tree filled with crystal and glass. Enjoy your holidays and thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving story
