Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi all -- I need some opinions. I know it's done to death, but still, I *adore* and love subway tile...have for a very long time now. I'm thinking of putting white (w/ dark grey grout) subway tile in my kitchen - on the entire face of the hearth area - see picture. Do you think it would look good...? I'm thinking it would be so cool, especially with the dressier lights juxtaposed against the more industrial style of subway tiles. For now, I'd leave the inside of the hearth alone - as black granite. I'd also tile the 2 small backsplash areas that are under my cupboards. Thoughts? Someday I want to re-do my cupboards...but ugh...now is just not the time.

| I like they way it looks now. I have beige subway tile in my kitchen in SC. They are horizontal. My daughter has white with white and they are slanted. Mine show every little spot of spaghetti sauce I want to do something with my kitchen cabinets, also. But what?

| I don't know about white. I think I would be more inclined to do something else like stone or beige. If the countertop was black, I would like the white with dark grout. I put glass tiles on my fireplace and at some point would like to use them for a backsplash. The family room and kitchen are all one open area so I think it would look nice. I wish I had just redone my kitchen after Hurricane Ike. It was the one room that I didn't upgrade and it would have been easier to have done it then...plus it would have been less expensive since I had the workers here already. Oh well. I like the metal tiles, too! That might look really nice in your kitchen. I googled and saw photos of what you are thinking of...and it is fine. Just isn't what I would do. I love your kitchen!

| Photo of the fireplace. I did the floor in front of it with an outline of the same tiles...I didn't get that in the photo. My Kiche is in the bed on the right...saw it after I took the photo. fireplace.jpg

| I say if you've been wanting to do it for so long and you have the means and time to do it, then go for it! It's your house and you are the one that will be looking at it and using it. If you pick something that you really love it doesn't matter if it's in or out or played out or whatever. My dad said my house is haunted bc of all the antiques and dark paint, but whatever, he doesn't live here, we do! So we did what made us happy. I love your style anyway and I think whatever you choose will be cool, modern, yet classic. Go for it!

| We just moved into a new house this spring, and we put beveled subway tile in our kitchen and plain white subway in our shower with black trim. We love them both. They are classic. Go for it! The stools at the counter are terrific! I am totally enamored of that wood and metal industrial look

| Ann -- I love your kitchen. The stools and lights, gorgeous! I like the idea of the tile, but would white, even with the dark grout, be too much of a contrast with all of the color and earthy tones? Linda -- your fireplace is gorgeous with the tile surround! Priscilla -- Isn't funny when visitors critique your home? We have very little hanging on our walls and that always upsets people. We like it this way, what do they care?

Thanks on the fireplace... I cannot say I love it but it is definitely better than before. I don't think I have photos of it ... I wanted to block it off but was told it decreases the value of a home. I don't use it. Too freaking hot in southeast TX for a fireplace.

Critiquing homes: the funniest is when prospective buyers comment negatively on furnishings, as if the furniture or knickknacks of the current occupant have anything to do with the house. I've noticed that on real estate shows. I don't know if anyone has gone through my cabinets. If they have, they would be disappointed that there isn't much there either.

| Oh....there are apps for your phone where you can take a picture and change paint colors. Might be something that would help.
