Thanks on the fireplace... I cannot say I love it but it is definitely better than before. I don't think I have photos of it ... I wanted to block it off but was told it decreases the value of a home. I don't use it. Too freaking hot in southeast TX for a fireplace.
I would NEVER critique someones style or decor unless they specifically asked me for advice. Imagine being a guest in someone's home and they are proudly showing you around and you say what you don't like?! Even when someone's home is totally not my style, I only find things that I do like, or ask questions about things they are obviously proud of. But I expect that kind of thing from family members, esp being Asian, it's almost unheard of for a parent (or someone else's parent) to NOT negatively say something about your style, decor, or home itself. Or at least they will tell you you paid too much for the home!
