But lately he has been trying, so gotta give him that much. I got him drinking tea at night and he's been avoiding certain foods and even doing vinegar shots. That is huge. :)

that is our ongoing argument, he also loves his beer he was having three a night and more on weekends and takes Blood pressure, high and anti anxiety meds, I told him if he eats better and drinks less he would probably not need it or at least not as much. He had a big scare though right before Christmas, he could not get his heart to stop beating fast, he wound up spending three nights in the hospital, and had his heart shocked back into rhythm. now he has another med for AFib along with all the others. He has cut WAY back on beer now he goes without at least three maybe four nights a week and when he does it's about half the amount.

What's odd is even though I am 40 lbs overweight my blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol numbers are very good.

Meanwhile I am eating stuff like plain greek yogurt and learning to like it. I will say while he does not need to loose weight he has high cholesterol and high Triglycerides which he prefers to take medicine for. At dinner the other night all the gals said they eat plain yogurt but not one of the guys would

Usually men don't like being told what to do. Esp when they are thin themselves and their partners are overweight or want to lose weight and they keep "nagging" the men to eat better. Of course they think they are doing it better since they are the ones that is thin. It's proven that metabolism of men and women are different. Plus we gain weight in different areas.

Bf has gained weight, but still is no where near fat. He used to work out a lot. He likes to eat healthy, but will not eat any meal that is not significantly meat based protein, otherwise he would just prefer not to eat. For ex he would not eat a meal that was carbs with a meat sauce on it, like rice with curry sauce that is meat based, or pasta with meat sauce. It would have to be curry with chunks of chicken or lamb, or pasta with meatballs or sausage. He doesn't eat as many veggies as me, but is good with the smoothies in the AM and loves Greek yogurt. He will not drink my home brewed kombucha, but will buy the $4 bottles any given chance if he is in Sprouts.

I will be 34 next month and bf is 36. Healthwise I think I am healthy, but I know I should not be drinking so much. I noticed my weight climb about 7 years ago when we lost our house and had to eat $1 fast food burgers every meal instead of grilled chicken salads, fish, and sushi. I never lost the weight even after I started eating better.

Christinee 01-13-2014 04:42 PM

I am 36.. turning 37 in feb.

I found this. It looks like fun! I have chia and quinoa seeds at home. I'm going to try this tonight.

7 lbs is quite a good start. is Tony on the plan with you, it is so helpful to have support. My DH is not heavy so he thinks he is living healthy, the funniest thing is after a workout with dinner he has big chocolate protein shake with 2% milk and on top of the chocolate in the shake he adds a bunch of Hershey syrup to it:eek: He drinks two or more reg pepsi's everyday, he also adds at least two tablespoon of white sugar to the whole grain cereal I buy him. but he is thin so I try not to say anything, because he immediately turns the tables and complains about my weight so it is not worth bringing up all the sugar he consumes.

Once I read this book Plan D I will let you know what I think, it is supposed to be very good and about health and clean living the gal that wrote it is a chemist or something and really understands food, she was quite obese as a young adult and now looks amazing, several of my friends read it.

Tony eats: tons of frozen stuff (not tv dinners but stuff you heat in a skillet), cereal, sandwiches, pasta, French fries, burgers, drinks green tea.

I eat: eggs, avocado, spinach, unseasoned grilled chicken breast, gluten free toast, I'm obsessed with tomatoes on everything, tuna, tilapia, peanut butter, lots of bananas, lots of steamed veggies (zucchini, squash, cauliflower, and carrots are my faves) or raw veggies with hummus, and I drink water and almond milk in my smoothies.

So idk how healthy that is but I've been staying away from anything in a box, can, etc. Tony eats whatever he wants..too lazy to cook real meals for himself but we try to sit down and eat dinner together and he's been game for waking up super early every morning to walk. He has asthma so he uses that as an excuse not to run, I understand but think he could use the exercise. His dad has diabetes and I worry it'll all catch up to him when he's older. He refuses to go to a gym with me though :( and that's been the hardest part is going alone..but I'm getting better. He's not fat, but he is short (same height as me, 5'3 almost 5'4) and he's getting a bit of a beer belly. lol.

capt_noonie 01-13-2014 07:00 PM

You know the more I have been eating veggies and less stuff out of a box or can, the easier it gets. I am actually preferring to eat veggies over meat lately. Not to say I eat vegetarian meals, but it is more like 70/30 veggies/meat, whereas before it was 70/20/10 meat/carbs/veggies.

And staying away from the canned and boxed stuff is easy for me. Just reading the ingredients label is enough to change my mind. And if the ingredients are that simple, heck I will just make it myself!

Boy do I ever need a boost in my weight loss. My scale will not budge. We do not have a Planet Fitness here in my small town...I'd have to travel 50 miles or more to get to one. So that just won't work for me and my work schedule. I feel as though I am eating pretty good over all...why is it the first 12 pounds came off pretty quickly and then the brakes went on, and I have not seen any progress what so ever. I can't see me doing the Dr Oz diet...it's too restrictive...although I really believe it would work. Ho-hum, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and hope for the best.

capt_noonie 01-13-2014 09:49 PM

I made a salad dressing w my chia seeds, raspberry vinaigrette, olive oil, pepper and salt. Then I put it on a salad of cabbage, broccoli, carrot, onion, corn. It would be great w sunflower seeds too!

I looked up online about sprouting chia seeds and the method I posted not work for chia since it has that gel stuff on it.

I'm making quinoa in the rice cooker now too. I can't ever get it right not he stovetop.

Christinee 01-14-2014 06:24 AM

I took a peek at the Dr. Oz diet. I almost considered it until I seen the no coffee part. Forget that! I have to have my one cup in the morning or I might bite someones head off. LOL :D

Christinee 01-14-2014 06:33 AM

My gym has a class this morning. Some sort of aerobic class. I am going to give it a try. Lets see if it works me out enough to make me sore. It's the first time I've taken this class.

I find it easier not to have any wine, because one glass leads to two and two leads to three. it's not been quite a week on the Oz diet but I lost 6 lbs so far. I know from dieting before that you tend to loose weight quickly at first so I can't count on this every week. Hard to believe but I am enjoying the restrictions of the diet, it takes the guess work out of what to eat and keeps me from trying to snack and eat just a little of this and a little of that. Bad news is my husband says my breath is bad and I am experiencing a lot of gas:D:D
I do take two probiotic pills in the morning so I was hoping that would not happen but it must not have kicked in yet:(

Congrat's on getting through the weekend. It sure is a good start, as I would think the weekends are the hardest. What a great idea to look at the menu ahead of time! True that about one glass of wine. Good on you for abstaining:) You must be proud of yourself!

Thought this might interest you since you mentioned tea. :)

Do You Know What's Really In Your Tea?

DBlain 01-14-2014 08:58 AM

Carmen sounds like you are eating really good, I too love tomatoes, I make a cucumber and tomato salad with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar. some dried basil and oregano with garlic salt, it's wonderful and I can make up a batch of it ahead of time and it will last for about 3 days, makes life a lot easier than chopping fresh all the time.

Today the scale was the same as yesterday, oh well I know that everyday will not show a weight loss.

Interesting article on the tea, I bought organic green tea, hopefuly mine is safe, but I am going to reread that article when I have more time.

too funny after talking about the bagels at Planet Fitness and how I have never seen them there, I went this morning and it turns out it was bagel day, lots of bagels but they were tucked away in a corner, they were the good kind and from Panera. But I walked by and did not partake. I also noticed it was more crowded at 9;30 than when I normally go at 7:00 lots of retired folks and young people to, lots of people with nice bodies.

On a side note it's below freezing and the side walks and streets are still snow or ice covered. Halfway to the gym on a busy residential street I see a lady about my age, struggling along a snow covered path (but old looking:D:D) she was carrying cloth shopping bags, which made me think she was headed to the grocery store which is across from the gym about 2 miles away, so I stop and ask if she would like a ride. She looks clean and normal so I was not worried. Well she gets in my car and the STINK was so awful, I am not sure what it was, smelled like a combination of soiled baby diapers, old cigarette smoke, and LOL maybe some Kimchi:D My car was pretty warm so I rolled down the windows and said oh I had the heat up to high. Then she tells me she is on her way to work at the Ace Hardware store in the same plaza as the gym. She looked fine, hair and clothes looked pretty clean, so I could not figure out why she stunk. I honestly thought I might throw up and she was in my car for only about 5 min. How can some one smell that bad and work around the public, honestly I feel sick again just typing about it.

what kind of class was it, today I had no energy at the gym, only did half my cardio and then came home, will try to do some workout here a little later. LOL maybe it was the stinky lady that zapped my energy:D

You guys try yoga? I've heard it was really good for various things. Personally, I don't have the patience... lol

If it's available in your area, I heard hot yoga? was really good. Couple of my friends said it helped a lot with their weight loss.

I love Yoga, especially the hot Vinyassa Flow style yoga. About 4 years ago I was a regular a serious yoga studio, it was warm, dark, warm and excellent teachers and cost $99.00 a month for unlimited classes. BUT I tore cartilage in my shoulder/bicep area from some of the moves. There is a wide spectrum of types of classes so people that are unfamiliar with yoga do not realize how intense some of the asanas (poses) can be. There are classes with passive type stretching, then there are classes that have you using your arms and shoulders to hold up the weight of you body. I got to the point I could do men's style pushups (chatarunges), headstands, balance my body by resting my forearms on my knees, and I was even able at age 54 to do a backbend. I thought I was on top of the world but then most likely due to my age and the fact that I took this up in my 50's I hurt my shoulder and also my back. I tried to keep going but the style I liked and really most styles of yoga have you using your upper arms a lot so I quit. A few years later when Bally's the gym I had gone to for over 25 years closed I joined a World Gym which happened to by owned by one of the gals that taught at the yoga studio, she put a small room in the back of the gym and taught the type of classes I had loved so much, so I decided to give it another try and figured I would take it easy on my left shoulder, well don't you know after about 10 classes I sprained my right rotator cuff:( I then decided I would just do basic yoga stretches at home. That was the beginning of me packing on 40lbs over the last 4 years. I recommend yoga to everyone but if you are new at it, take it slow before trying all the hard stuff, especially if you are not really young. I actually still have it in the back of my mind that if I loose 40 lbs I might try it again, I really really miss it:(. The other problem is if you wind up liking yoga it is hard to enjoy it unless you are in a dedicated studio where the room is dark and warm, taking it at the YMCA or through the parks and recreation dept is totally different but be prepared attending Yoga studios are really expensive.

DBlain 01-14-2014 11:22 AM

On another exercise note, for those of you that are young and are really looking to loose calories and tone your body, try kick boxing, but take it easy and do it right. Shortly after giving up yoga I wound up signing up for a ladies kick boxing defense class. I loved it and could tell in a short time what a difference it was making on my body. But typical me instead of going 2 nights a week like I signed up for, the guy saw how much I loved it so let me come to his other classes so I started going 4 times a week. We used bags that hung from the ceiling and they moved when you hit them. The class was in a fight gym, where they had that cage fighting and two boxing rings. The guy that taught the class grew up in a boxing family so it was a serious place and in three months I could tell what a difference it was making, so then on Saturdays when at Bally's I started bringing my gloves and punching their bag which was a huge floor mounted bag that was very hard and hardly moved when you punched it. Well I must have jammed my arm on that bag the wrong way because I wound up getting an extreme case of tendenits in my right forearm that lasted for over six month, picking up a suitcase or a gallon of milk was even painful. For a long time I did not even tell my husband I had gotten hurt again because he had been telling me " you are too old to start boxing" So once again I had to give up something that I really was enjoying and was making a difference. I wish I would have known or thought about this type of exercise decades ago. It is an amazing workout, it tones your arms, legs and abs and LOL you can work through your aggressions as well. But take a lesson from me, don't over do it

DvlshAngel985 01-14-2014 08:50 PM

Kick boxing is so fun!! Too bad I'm too poor to actually pay for classes or the gym. :'(

Sorry to hear about the smelly lady. Good karma must be coming to you in double for picking her up... and not passing out. Good one about putting the heat up too high. You have age on your side, 'cause you could always use the 'hot flashes' card:) The saving grace was that it was only 5 minutes... albeit 5 minutes too long. Sorry, but I have to admit I had a chuckle reading your post. My how her coworkers must love her:( Yuk!

JuliannaB 01-14-2014 09:28 PM

K, well my guilty pleasure is chocolate. I LOVE chocolate. It doesn't matter what kind it is either! It seems, especially around Christmas time, when I hand out chocolates, that I have any extra box (or 2) that we open up at home. I don't know what it is that I can't just have one or two of the top layer, I just keep eating them til the layer is gone. I must be feeling sorry for the chocolates left behind that I eat them all. So my NY's thought is... eat less chocolate. I have been doing really well, not eating as many anyways:) So today at work, one of the residents gave me a box of Purdy's Chocolates for doing him a kind favor. Of course I thanked him kindly, 'cause he really didn't need to do that, but the thought I had in my head 'how am I not going to eat the whole layer?' So, as an experiment, I had one, then quickly put them in storage so that I can't see them. It seems when they are out in the midst of my viewing I just can't say no to them as they're calling me as I walk by. Power of the mind... go figure!

Christinee 01-15-2014 05:42 AM

I am sore today. But I knew I would be. My butt, arms, back are all sore. My abs are spared this time, but that's probably because I have already broke those in a little more than the rest. I am glad my butt is sore because that is where a lot my extra weight is. My mom was nice enough to pass her big butt to me and my sisters when we don't keep it in shape. gee.. Thanks mom. lol So I am skipping the gym today to give my body a day to heal, but do have a lot of running around to do, so at least I will still be moving.
