Ha! No Saint here. Cranky, yes. Drink too much, fairly often.
Put my thoughts on paper to let off steam, frequently. Love my job, most definitely. Don't think I could have done this for 25 years if I didn't see that I do make a difference and that I am good at what I do. Huge self esteem boost once I realized that, and that gets me through the bad nights at work.

I grew up in a commonwealth - (aka- welfare state) and saw this stuff all my life pretty much. Its sad. I had a cousin have a baby right before she turned 32, I mean not a kid, but she can't care for this child. Shes broker than broke (got pregnant on purpose), lives in a slum, is living off the state EVERYTHING... yet she had a baby on purpose, to raise him in her lifestyle of poverty. It makes me so sad!! Thing is she is healthy, has a degree and COULD work, but does not.

They expect the handouts and free medical treatment and formula for their kids. My cousin is 36 and has never worked. She refuses to. She told me "why should I work, when I get more from the state?" She's been married 5 times, divorced 4 and widowed 1 and is about to marry loser number 6. It's ridiculous. Her mom takes care of her youngest 3 kids, she doesn't even take care of them. But she still collects from the state for them....

Something is really screwed up with the system that this can continue to happen again and again. I just haven't figured why people think they are "entitled" just because they draw breath. I think many of them never even consider where that money is coming from (YOU AND ME!!!) or if they do, they just don't give a flip. They come to the ER because it is "free" and they don't have to wait for an appointment. They want million dollar workups for chronic issues because they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of paying any bills they might receive. One of my hard working coworkers got her pay garnished (by her employer, OUR hospital, no less!) because she was paying less than the minimum monthly (but WAS paying every single month) and when she asked the billing people about all the other no paying customers, she was essentially told that the hospital doesn't waste money trying to collect on bills they know will never be paid, they just go after the ones they know they can get money from. That pi***d me off so bad, I wanted to lose my mind on those people, but I need my job. It sucks!

When my daughter was in kindergarten, in WV, I had just finished nursing school and decided to be a room mother. I had a blast. One day we had our kids out on they playground. The teacher began to cry. She said it breaks her heart to know which kids didn't stand a chance due to family situations and involvement. Sad part, I watched most of those kids grow up. She was right, only 2 overcame their beginnings.

That's sad.... I don't understand why hospital ERs have to see people for colds, who go in every other night and rack up bills they don't intend to pay, meanwhile people who need treatment can't get it because its so expensive. And I make too much for any state aid-although I pay in for it, I can't use it.
