| Okay guys I've just joined this thread after getting my test results back this past Friday, and my thyroid is now testing normal. LOL, Yay, here's my story: About two years ago I went from my normal 125 lbs to 105 Lbs (I'm 5'2) in like a month. . . and had other weird symptoms -- dry mouth, headaches, insomnia. Anyway after running tests I was diagnosed with hyper thyroidism. I had to go through some radiation, and drug treatment that was supposed to put things back to normal. To say the least they 'killed' my thyroid (this is how the Dr termed it), and I had hypothyroidism, and began to gain weight like crazy. (BTW, my thyroid wasn't actually dead; it just wasn't producing T4 correctly anymore; that Dr. is no longer my Dr., lol) Well, after much drug therapy, and a couple Drs. I've been off all the drugs for 90 days now, and I just got the test results that my thryroid is producing in a normal zone! Basically my thyroid was damaged, but I'm one of the lucky ones that I eventually healed. Which means my Dr. has approved me going on a diet and workout regime that will help get rid of 65 lbs that I have gained through all this. So today I began a diary, and tomorrow I begin walking in the mornings. I've been browsing this thread and ya'll have a lot of great advice and information. So officially I hate to put this in writing, but I'm 192 lbs, and my goal is to be back down to my normal 125 lbs that I had always maintained easily until two years ago.

| My hubby was diagnosed with the same thing as you! He dropped 30 pounds in like a month and was a wreck. One Dr. put him on some meds for like 6 months. He finally went to another Dr. who told him that if he did not do something pretty quick, he was going to have a heart attack and he was in his early 30's at the time! His heart was racing all the time. So they did the radioactive iodine treatment and "killed" his thyroid. But they really killed it...it has never produced again. So he takes Levothyroxin religiously now and keeps it all under control that way. Now he has Type II Diabetes...he is a walking wreck! I am trying to get him to eat healthy and it is like talking to a wall sometimes. He just does not get it. You just have to take it a day at a time. It is so great you are starting on this path to being healthy again!!! You Go Girl!!! There are lots of folks here that have done it and are doing it and will be so much support to you. I always say losing weight is like eating an elephant...you have to do it one bite at a time! But don't eat an elephant...I hear they don't taste so good anyway!!! If you need anything, just holler!!! Glad is a goldmine of info on this healthy eating stuff...she can help you out anytime!!! OK Glad...you have just been volunteered!!!!

| Your poor husband. It took a few doctors till I found one that was able to help. She was willing and eager to try different mixtures of therapies, and kept testing me every 90 days to stay on top of it! Thank you for the welcome. My biggest problem is I never had a weight problem, so I never really thought about what I did and didn't eat, lol. So I'm having to completely change my habits and be consious (but not obsessive) about the way I eat, lol. Also I have two very young children, and that always makes it harder. I don't want them to miss out on ice cream runs and stuff like that either. . . Lol, like you said one bite at a time.

Hi, Rhapsody! Love your name! It's so awesome that you have decided that part of your new regimen is exercise as well as watching what you eat. Congrats! You are on the right path to a healthy lifestyle through your determination to do so! As you have already begun, continue to read this thread. There are a lot of great tips and hints here, thanks to our information guru, Pat, (Muffie's Mom). I am the resident cheerleader, lol. JKat was keeping our records, and I am hoping that is still happening. We are all here for you. Ask all the questions you want. Keeping a journal is a great way to keep track of what you are putting into your body. Try really hard to cut fat out of your diet as much as you can, cut your carbohydrates, especially anything made with white flour, eat whole grains, drink water water water, eat veggies as much as you want, eat fresh fruit, watch your sodium intake, and drink water water water. Yes, I said that twice, lol. So what can we do for you right now? What questions do you have? Ask away! AND WELCOME!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Wanna be a part of this... Hey girls I am 30 turning 31 with three young children. The youngest is turning two on thursday. I was always very thin and could eat anything. After having my first child I was right back to being skinny. Then almost three years later baby two I was left with five pounds. Now after having my son I have maybe twenty pounds that I want to get rid of. I am a very busy person and always doing something which is part of the problem. I eat a bit late at times and I know that is a no-no. It's also hard to lose weight and eat right because of the goodies and things that the kids want to eat. I started out at a size four on a bad day and now am about a size eight or so. I am currently 5 ft 6 inches or so and about 145 lbs. I need help changing how I do things and losing weight. I would appreciate any help and cheering on I can get. Ideally I would like to get back to 125 lbs or so. The weather is getting better so I will be trying to take that nice afternoon walk with my kids like I usually do. I think the biggest thing is realizing that I have to watch what I eat now. Plus I do know that as you get older and have more children your metabolism slows down more. I am not sure but a few people have told me that post tubal ligation you can put on some weight. I had my tubes tied in November of 05 and I can say that I probably have about five pounds after that as well. Help Please....
