| my knee is shot last year I had my right knee scoped for a meniscus tear. At the time the doc said other than that the knee looked good, not much cartilage loss. Well ever since my March ski trip the knee has been killing me, constant pain, especially trying to kneel down and going down stairs, I can't believe how much it has changed how I do things. I am 57 and when I get up from sitting or squatting down I am pulling myself up with my arms and all bent over like an old person. I need to go up and down my stairs like 20 times a day and now do that differently I went to the doctor yesterday and the x ray showed on the outside part of my knee there is NO cartilage at all so bone on bone. Even the doctor said he was surprised at the rapid change. So at the moment he has giving me a prescription for an arthritis type drug, physical therapy so I know what exercises are good and what are bad, and he is contacting my insurance company for them to authorize a shot of rooster comb in my knee, has anyone had that, does the shot hurt. I have gotten cortisone shots in my hand and those were always so painful. Funny the things they come up with, but research has led to findings that the comb from a rooster can be used to manufacture a solution that can be used as a temp replacement for cartilage loss. In the near future maybe a year or so I would not be surprised to be getting a knee replacement, LOL maybe it will be my 60th birthday present to myself

| her is an article about the shot, bummer, this article does not make it sound like it does that much good, plus they say it can take up to 12 weeks to see an effect Treating Knee Osteoarthritis With Hyaluronan Injections

| I don't know if this will help but my friend has RA and she gets synovial injections. It is something that is like the lubricant in the joints so they are not rubbing against each other. Try to do whatever exercise that is recommended too. Feel better. It's horrible when you are in pain. |

| Oh, I am so sorry that your knee is giving you such trouble, Donna. There are some things about aging that are so yuck. (Some of you might know that Donna and I are the same age.) I am impressed that you are able to squat, I haven't been able to do that in 10 years. Anyway, hope the prescriptions and therapy, etc., help you feel better.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear that. My daughter has RA and had her knee scoped today and all the synovial lining removed, plus a small tear repaired. I know it's no fun. I hope you can get some relief.

| OMGoodness, you are really scaring me!! I'm 55 (you all can keep that secret right?) and can no longer kneel or squat or if I do, I need help getting up. I am taking Celebrex (which I did not want to take) for knee, elbow, and wrist pain. I used to need help only in the winter but now it's year round. I'm too young to get my knees replaced right? Isn't there a life-expecentancy for those things?? Help, now I'm worried!!

| It stinks when your knee limits you bc of the pain I have had knee pain for 3 yrs now. I have a lateral and collateral tear. I have been told by a surgeon that I need surgery, and I am just too darn scared to do it. It pops out of socket. I was told I was a walking time bomb bc one day it won't go back in and I am hoping that never happens. I have never heard of rooster comb, I would just research it bf I did it.

| Donna, I am sorry to hear your knee is hurting and interfering with routine activity. Hoping you can find the right treatment for you. I know from friends that knee replacements can be very painful and require a fairly long recovery, but the result is worth it.

The drug the doc gave me is working like a miracle I feel like I have no knee pain at all, but I have vivid memories of seeing the exray so I know it's just a false sense of well being. Even though this type of stuff does not really run in my family I seem to have trouble with ostio arteritis. About ten years ago the base of my thumb started to ache, really bad so much so that if I bumped it gently it would send a shiver down my spine because it hurt so much. I started getting cortisone shots first in the right hand several times and then finally the left hand. I keep trying to research my condition on the net and one web site said eventually the nerve shorts out and you no longer have any pain. Well that happened to me, seems like a miracle that I am pain free in one hand. and now the left is pain free as well. gotta go to bed, I am losing it, post more in the AM

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | So sorry you're having trouble with your knee - the darn things! Knee problems cause such problems, especially for women. Hang in there and take it easy on your joints. How do you decide when the right time is to have surgery...by pain level or?

| I had both knees replaced when I was about your age....I cannot remember the exact year now. Seems so long ago now. Oh, how I suffered before they finally did the first one. The doctor I was going to told me I should wait until I was in my 60s. When he decided to offer me that injection, I spent a lot of time reading about them and talking to people in his waiting room. I was there quite a bit and met a lot of people. I never found one person it worked for. At the time I was getting friendly with the physical therapists and finally they did give me a few names of other ortho surgeons (I had to beg ..haha) . Well, when I went to UTMB to see a new surgeon, he was shocked when he saw the films. I had so much necrosis in my knees. One was much worse so he scheduled that one. The other one went bad about a month later. He made me wait until I was four months past that initial surgery and then did the other one. I have heard people say bad things about that surgery and recovery but for me it was a breeze! As long as I did my exercises faithfully I did well and the pain was really not so bad. Instead of waking up every day with the pain increasing, I was waking up every day with the pain DEcreasing. Now, it is like I never had surgery. I LOVE MY KNEES! All I can say is don't let it go on too long, Donna. I suffered much longer than necessary. I was on crutches and having to shop only in places where they had wheelchairs. It was dreadful! Big day out was Target. sheesh

| Donna, I am so very sorry that you live with chronic pain. It is so devastating and frustrating. It is good to hear that the meds are working for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. |
