Default Any Electronic cigarette users?

My dh is trying to conquer his cigarette addiction by using electronic cigarettes. Has anyone tried these? Does anyone know if it is even a safer method of smoking? My thoughts are that it just has a few hundred less toxic chemicals in it.

Any info is appreciated.

I have plenty of experience....I currently own 3.

I have tried to quit several times and although they dont suggest using it to quit, many have quit while using it. So I figured I would give it a try.

I know that it is just nicotine....no chemicals or burning. no smoke either. It's water vapor........some places still do not let you use them indoors because it is still....a cigarette.

Places online sell different flavor nicotine to place in the filter...everything from dreamsicle, strawberry shortcake, to even rum flavored.

It takes a bit to get used to. The water vapor is a different feeling than the smoke....but so much healthier for the user and the people around. No second hand smoke.

It is way cheaper too. Each filter is the equivalent of one pack....and the filter can be filled two more times.....each filter = 3 packs. About 3 filters used completely with nicotine drops (equivalent to 9 packs) cost about 6 dollars....while buying 9 packs of traditional cost close to $50.

A lot of doctors are encouraging patients to use this as an alternative. Like I said, several use it and end up quitting smoking even though they don't suggest it. Which doesn't make since to me. If people are quitting with it, let them! lol

Hope that helps a bit!

Oh yes!!! Tons of experience with these little beauties!!!

I had smoked for years and years - and decided the time was right about a year ago to give up (health, money, Andy's heart problems etc.).

Tried patches, lozenges, sprays, inhilators etc - but none of them gave me a long-term solution. So I looked into e-cigs. There are absolutely masses on the market.

I have quite a few, but (from my personal experience) my absolute favourite is the Intellicig. The e-liquid that you drop into the filter cartridge is so pure, that it was actually on television the other morning being endorsed by a Doctor. He said that say 'ordinary' cigarettes measure 100 out of 100 (badness-wise), and nicotine patches etc measure 1 out of 100 - these e-cigs measure 2 out of 100. What a brilliant invention.

I have never looked back. They are wonderful. All I would say is - be very, very careful where you buy your top-up e-liquid and refill cartridges from. I know there have been a lot of issues regarding the purity of imports from China (again!!). The US and UK both have very stingent rules - but as ever, it's best to buy from a reputable breeder!!!

So it's worked for me for over a year now - all I would add is that it's best to have a few of them as they do need re-charging. I'll try to find the links to the stuff I was going on about!! Good luck to him! Sally x

Hmmmm. Maybe show him this thread showing others' experiences with it. That's what I'm going to do today!

Wow! Thanks for the information. This really helps. I read online the other day about the e-cig and it was shown to have some chemical in it that is used in anti-freeze. I'm just wondering how many chemicals it actually does have. Maybe it just depends on the manufacturer???

I know actual cigarettes have hundreds of toxic substances in them, so how much harm can an e-cig be to one's body if it has some toxic chemicals in it.

Have you quit cigarettes? I know you said you have tried several times. I wish you luck. I've never smoked, but I know from watching the dh that it takes determination and self-discipline to stop. He has quit about 3 times for a few years apiece. I was so proud of him. Then, something very stressful happened each time and it started him back.

I am so proud of you for quitting this horrible habit. I know how hard it must have been for you. My husband bought his at a corner store. I can't remember the brand name. I would really appreciate it if you could find the link. It would be most helpful. I'll show him your post.

I replied to another post about the e-cig having a toxic chemical that is used in anti-freerze. I'm just wondering how many chemicals it actually does have. Maybe it just depends on the manufacturer???

I took Wellbutrin which is what BCBS would pay for. It has been over 13 years and I never looked back. The Wellbutrin took the edge off and made me less irritable, so it was easier to quit.

Thank you, you're a sweetheart!

Ok, just found it - the one I love is very British - and very pure!! It's - www.intellicig.com and they have a box at the top that you can see it all in US$ etc.

It seems expensive for the initial outlay - but is minimal in comparison to the cost of 'real' cigarettes. Also, they suggest you purchase the 'empty cartridges' to put the eco-pure liquid in. You don't need to do this - the e-liquid works just as well with the pre-filled cartridges.

There's a lot of very detailed information on their website, including a section on health, contents, frequently asked questions etc. It's certainly worth a browse, to put your mind at ease.

Please do have a look at it - and then I'll talk you through the finer details, if need be! Sally x

Haven't quit yet But I have completely switched to the e-cig.

I know only one person that did not quit using the e-cig. Everyone else did end up quitting after about 2mon.

I am going to try slowing down on the nicotine strength.....still on the highest. And just slowly work down to no nicotine. keeping fingers crossed!

Tee hee!

As I posted above - I've got quite a few too. But found this to be the most 'life-like'. It's this brand that made me finally quit. And strangely enough (although I didn't use to smoke menthol 'normal' ciggies) - I tried all the eco-pure liquids, and to me the menthol was the best!

Just let me know, if you need to know anything Sally x

Default Yessssss

Wow, I just found this part of YT! I bought my electronic ciggerette yesterday, I opted for the menthol tobacco flavor, and I have to say...I have yet to have a ciggerette. I have been smoking for 35 years (outside, in my car, out the bathroom window etc) I am a pack and a half smoker, I love my cigs..

I bought this product yesterday sat with it for an hour to get use to it and find my comfort zone with it and I honestly can't believe I didn't get one sooner. I also bought one for my secretary (2 pk a day smoker) and she too thinks its wonderful.

One thing I will say, if you are willing to quit smoking, and truly WANTING to quit smoking, then this might work for you. If you are going in with a positive attitude and a sincere desire to quit...if not, wait till you are!!!

Good Luck

Woo hoo! Congratulations!

Totally agree with you - you have to have 'the want'.

Over Christmas, I thought to myself "well, it's been a year now, think I'll have a 'normal' ciggie, just because I can if I like!!". It was absolutely disgusting! It made me feel sick and dizzy and tasted vile - I couldn't wait to stub it out....

What I might suggest to you is that you own more than one? There's nothing worse than having to wait for it to re-charge!! Plus spare atomisers etc too.

Also, on that website I mentioned, they make ones that glow blue !! So that no-one can argue with you at the pub!!!

Keep going and keep enjoying! Sally x

This is also how my husband was finally able to quit smoking 15 months ago. But I have to say that he really wanted to quit and I believe its the only reason that he has lasted smoke free. Our neighbors also both quit with Wellbutrin almost 12 yrs ago and although they "fell off the wagon" a couple of times they immediately went back to the Wellburtin and stopped again.

My only advice about quitting is that your husband needs to do it for himself and want to quit otherwise he will not be successful no matter what method he uses. Good luck

I quite agree with you - and I'm glad that your husband finally managed it!

I must admit, a few years ago I tried the 'British version' - Zyban (??) but it didn't do it for me. I think the time probably wasn't right, and I was battling it !

Personally, I also missed the hand to mouth routine - and also all the paraphenalia involved - and, for me, this rather brilliant new (ish!) invention ticked every single box - and still does! Sally x
