Any Electronic cigarette users?

My husband was using it after he was diagnosed with lung cancer last August. It was still hard for him to give up real cigarettes as first. Now he uses the E cigarette when he has an urge occassionly. The first oncologist we saw suggested trying them to help hi quit.
I hope everyone is successful in kicking the habit as I can tell you first had lung cancer is a lot harder! Good luck

Do you know, I've been absolutely longing to talk to you about this....

When I first read about your husband (yes, of course I've been following your threads ) I really wanted to suggest the good old e-cigs. But something kept stopping me - I wasn't sure if it was entirely 'appropriate' to suggest an alternative.

And I think I was also concerned about the purity of a lot of the ones that we can buy. I've researched and researched, and found the purest one I can possibly find (and no, I promise you I don't work for them, or have anything to do with them - apart from buy from them!! ).

Well, I'm going to have to give this a try! I still take Wellbutrin and smoke. Sigh.

But my smoking is very limited - not in the car - not at work and not in the house. And it's getting pretty freaking cold in the garage!

I quit once using Chantix; quit for several months - until I went on vacation and to a casino and had a few drinks.

Maybe I'll try the electronic thingy.

Actually, Zyban is avaliable in the US and is a form of Wellburtin. He tried using it when it first became available about 16 yrs ago but it was more because I was pushing him to quit smoking. He took about 3 pills of the $150 RX and I found the bottle in the garage~full months later. My dad passed away @ 49 yrs old when I was just 17 from lung cancer so I know when it is like to see someone suffer. He also did the gum thing too

He now has a new addition~gum~lots and lot and lots of gum.

It seems expensive for the initial outlay - but is minimal in comparison to the cost of 'real' cigarettes. Also, they suggest you purchase the 'empty cartridges' to put the eco-pure liquid in. You don't need to do this - the e-liquid works just as well with the pre-filled cartridges.

My husband used Wellbutrin about 12 years ago. It also helped him quit. I told him to get the doctor to write it again. The doctor gave him Chantix which gave him serious nightmares and weird dreams, and he couldn't sleep. He cut it down to one dose in the mornings and it helped some. He is still smoking and this was almost a year ago the doctor gave it to him.

I know only one person that did not quit using the e-cig. Everyone else did end up quitting after about 2mon.

I am going to try slowing down on the nicotine strength.....still on the highest. And just slowly work down to no nicotine. keeping fingers crossed!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, too. I'm also proud of you for not smoking real cigarettes anymore. That is quite an accomplishment! I just wish my dh would switch completely over to the e-cigs. Let me know how you do later on.

I wish you lots of luck! I also agree that you have to have the desire and truly want to stop. Wish my dh luck! I am having a hard time with him smoking. He doesn't smoke in the house or the car. He goes outside, BUT when he comes back in, he smells! I've asked him to stay outside and air out for a while, but no such luck. I've had migraines all of my life and this smell really doesn't help any. I haven't ridden his back and complained a lot because I don't want to turn him off of the idea of quitting. It's a touchy subject with him.

Yeah, I told him today that it is totally up to him to quit. But, that I don't want to see him get cancer and suffer. I know it is a hard habit to break. Both of my parents smoked for at least 30 years. One had to have a heart attack at age 50 and my mom, bless her heart, quit because she didn't want to tempt my dad to smoke. Dad lived to the ripe old age of 82 and mom to the ripe old age of 87.

Patti, thank you for your thoughts. I have been following your thread about your husband. My heart goes out to you both. I still pray each day that God will give him a miracle.

I'm hoping my dh will use the e-cigs more and wean himself off of the real thing. Each time he lights up a cigarette, I remind him to use the e-cig. I honestly think he forgets about them. It's just a habit that he carries them in his pocket and they are easy to get to. If he can replace the cigarettes with the e-cig, maybe he can form a new habit.

Yeah, I think when someone is trying to quit smoking, they need to break old habits. I know it's hard to do. Habits like sitting in the morning before work at a coffee shop with other people, like my husband does each morning. Also, he hangs around other smokers and talks during the day on his route. Oh, a big one is when he is talking on the phone after work on the back porch! I hate commercials during TV programs we are watching because I know it's inevitable that he takes a smoke break.

Give the e-cig a try. It might just be what you are looking for. I'm going to order the Intellicig. I'm glad Harrysmum has done all the leg work (Thanks, Harrysmum!) and suggested it to us. Good luck with your journey to quit smoking.

What personally worked for me was that I didn't actually change any habits....I still go to the coffee shop...talk (like crazy!) on the phone...go out for a lovely meal...but take and use the e-cig totally instead. Everything is absolutely, exactly the same - but with a different product.

Do you know, when I first 'switched', I used to position myself 'down-wind' from the real smokers, so that I could actually smell/sniff it?!!? I can promise you (and your husband!) that didn't last for very long! Yuck!

Again, if you do decide to go with the Intellicig, may I suggest that you get at least 2 of everything? For a smoker, there's nothing more frustrating than having to wait for the battery part of it to re-charge, it's best always to have one ready and waiting - so that there's never an excuse!! Also, if you have to order it from their website, it'll save you 2 lots of shipping. I also bought the soft carry-case - it all adds to the routine and habit that your husband is used to.

All I can tell you is what worked best for me....

I bought pre-filled cartridges
I bought the 'empty' cartridges that you're meant to fill with the e-liquid +
I bought the e-liquid

Of that lot - all I really needed was the pre-filled cartridges + the e-liquid.

The pre-filled are good - but do work out expensive. They're worth the initial outlay. They look like 'ordinary' cigarette filters (the brown bit) with spongey stuff inside. I use 1 of those until it doesn't 'puff' anymore. When that happens, I top up with the e-liquid, using 2 or 3 drops from the dropper bottle. I use maybe 1 of the pre-filled cartridges a week - with top-ups as and when necessary of the liquid.

The 'empty' cartridges have nowhere near the absorption-power of the filled.

It all sounds so complicated on here (I'm sorry! ) but in reality it really isn't...! Sally x

Been using them a couple years. Think they are great if you know what to buy, where and how. If you buy them at the corner store they are junk. My battery last a couple of days and I buy very good liquid and refill my own carts.

Josh and i have the "blue cigs" and the battery STINKS!! They are junk. They work to keep us from smoking but we desperately need a better brand!
