| Who else is making a NY resolution about WEIGHT LOSS? Is anyone else making a new year's resolution to lose weight? Ideally I would like to lose 20 lbs. . . It is so simple: eat less, exercise more. . But I made the same resolution last year and lost and gained the same 8 lbs a few times last year. . . It isn't so much about how I look, but I would REALLY like to fit in to my clothes again. Kate |

| I am with you. I lost 32 pounds and managed to put 20 back on. So, it is time to get them off again. It is so easy to put on but so hard to take off. I agree, I can't seem to get into all my clothes either!! Going to try high protein and exercise again. Worked well for me last time. Good luck with yours!!

| Me too. Last time, I did the whole 'health food' thing; and lost a ton of weight.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I try to remind myself every January that eating is for fuel, not for fun! I do love food, but as I've gotten older, I've learned that it's not just the amount of food, but what types of healthy food, that really makes a difference on my energy level and periods of hypoglycemia. (I'm just like a tiny, I suffer from hypoglycemia if I don't eat right. ) I've tried to eat healthy all my adult life, but giving up white flour is the number one thing that has helped me, I haven't eaten much sugar in years, but white flour was still causing me problems, and I didn't even know that until I gave it up. This is hard to do, unless you are very dedicated. Whole wheat flour is so much better for me; I don't have the waves and dips in blood sugar if I eat whole wheat instead of white, so that means I also don't get periods where I feel like I'm starving, this of course helps with weight loss. I think it's important to never go on any type of weight loss diet that you don't think you can live with your entire life. I recommend that everyone keep a food journal, and learn how different foods affect them, their energy levels and moods. Just a little bit of white flour throws off the whole thing for me, but it only takes a 24 hours or so, for me to get back on track and feel good again.

| Well, I am going to try to get a head start on New years and head to the gym in a few minutes (I have had a membership for a few years but rarely go . . .). My DH and I got an elliptical machine on a boxing day sale, which should be delivered in a few days. LOL. However, I was smart and insisted on a TV to put in front of the elliptical . . . I love food and wine so much! |

| I definitely want to lose weight because we are going on a cruise on Feb 13 and I don't want to look bad in a bathing suit.

| To be completely honest, I wouldn't wait for a specific date (Jan 1st) to start. Usually, people tend to gorge themselves thinking "okay well I'm going on a diet on such date so I'm going to have my last...pizza, ice cream etc." All this does is add an extra couple pounds that then you have to lose starting January...IMHO I would start with your next meal. That's how I lost 20lbs and I've kept it off. It's really hard ...I was raised to eat everything I want and whatever time...and I absolutely LOVE food...especially deserts...Either way what helps me is to designate one cheat day. One day where you eat your favorite meal, have your cookies, etc...of course a lot of times cravings kick in...if you love sweets DO NOT buy a tub of ice cream and think you have enough self control to not eat more...this is often a mistake...I make that mistake ALL the time...you can buy those weight watches SMART ONES deserts that I absolutely love as an example, the goal is to not buy more than two servings worth because you'll just end up eating more than you intend to...Also not all fast food is bad! If you love your fast food taco bell is a wonderful option...of course not EVERYTHING on their menu is healthy but a couple of tacos are great and can curb your cravings! I think the big mistake everyone makes when starting a diet (just like I did) is that you try to COMPLETELY change your lifestyle in one day and that is just not feasible. If you need to start with one meal a day that is healthy or two and work your way up. There are a lot of healthy yummy deserts and even though frozen dinners aren't that tasty for those that know how to cook...I like to have a couple just in case I don't have time, and they are wonderful because when you run out of time and don't feel like cooking THAT is when the cravings kick in and you are most likely to go get fast food or order a pizza...this is why it is extremely important to PLAN ahead. Plan your meals and even plan for the days you are the most likely to be stressed and reach for bad food....knowing when you are your weakest and acknowledging it will help you move forward and stay on track. Also, for those who are planning on exercising, I would strongly consider working out in the morning. Not only does it give you a great jumpstart on your day, but personally it also redirects all of my cravings because I sit there thinking "Do I really want a piece of cheescake? That's a 5 mile run to burn off the calories and I only ran 2 today and I was exhausted!" Writing down how many calories you burned during exercise, and the calories you are consuming also helps regulate what you put in your mouth. Things like juice quickly pack on the calories (for example a glass of orange juice is approximately 100 calories which is a mile run at a moderate pace) and your morning latte from starbucks is also extremely high in calories. Opt for a tall skinny vanilla latte for example, which only has 90 calories. Either way, I'm sorry for rambling, I just struggle with food every day and I understand how difficult it is to keep an exercise routine AND eat healthy. Exercising speeds up your metabolism, but it also makes you more hungry so you have to be careful that you do not eat junk because otherwise this will have no effect. Eating healthy is probably one of the MOST important components of keeping a healthy lifestyle and weightloss...oh yeah and stay away from anything with granola in it...really high in calories and sugar not at all healthy!! Hope I've helped someone, and not put everyone to sleep! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Yep, I'm in. I have a lot of weight to lose, but I really need to lose twenty. Anything past that will be vanity weight, but I am VERY vain. Any way we can keep ourselves honest? Should we each post a tip a day in a special thread? Start a mini-community? Promise to donate money to an animal charity if we don't hit our goals? My challenge has always been hunger. I don't mind eating healthy, but I have a HUGE appetite, and can easily overeat even healthy things. One thing I've found very, very helpful is greek yogurt. I like Fage.

| I'm in on the dieting thing. I'm doing Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle program. Last time I did it I lost 30 lbs of pure fat in about 2.5 months. My metabolism sped up like crazy. I unfortunately became a little too encouraged with my results so celebrated with self-indulgence and eating out. But, this year is different. I am losing it all! No more yo-yo dieting either!!
