| He just might be scared and sticks to what he's comfortable with, which is swimming. I didn't get my license till I was 20 because I was scared of failing the test. The only reason I got it was because I HAD to. I started working and my dad couldn't drive me to work and school. Now, I'm addicted to driving. If I can't drive my little speedster for a day or two, I get into a funky mood. Who knew?

| Many moons ago when I was going into the 10th grade, I had to have my learner's permit to take driver ed. I turned 15 in March of "75 and still didn't test for my permit until June or July. I had had a bad experience when I was younger and my Dad was teaching me to drive. Long story short, at one time during the training session with him in our farm field, he panicked and reached his foot over to reach the brake and hit the gas instead. We went thru a barbed wire fence and messed up our family car! Left a bad taste in my mouth for driving, so wasn't in in any hurry after that. I failed my written test twice before passing-just in time for 1st semester drivers ed. Low and behold, when I turned 16 I passed my driving test with flying colors! Sometimes it just takes something important enough for the person to "buck up" and try! |

| MY youngest son was not interested in driving or even owning his own car till he moved to San Diego to go to the Art Institute and he had no choice but to get his license. He was 20. He is now 34 and still isn't interested in driving. He lets his wife do it unless he has no choice.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | My daughter is 15 and refusing to take her test for the permit, too. She says she has no interest in driving. I don't get it, I couldn't wait to drive when I was her age. She says that because we live out in the sticks, there isn't any place to drive to any way.

| I had no interest in driving until I was 21...always had great public trans until then... ..and, my grandfather never learned to drive his entire life...lived in the city until retired to Florida and my Grandmother did all the driving... I think everyone should learn, get a license, then drive if they want... |

| If you say he's a home-body, he could just not care about driving if he has no where to go. He could be lazy too; maybe he doesn't want to study or have the responsibilities. Now me on the other hand, I was getting my permit the day I turned 15-1/2 & I got my license the day I turned 16. I couldn't wait!! And I passed both the first time.

| I'm sorry to hear of your brother. It really does put a damper on pretty much everything in a family. It's been almost 5yrs, but we're still struggling. My brother was almost 6yrs old when he drowned at a public pool - lifeguards did not properly save him, and we went through a lawsuit, trial, etc, so it seemed never ending.

| I have a cousin who was NOT interested in driving until she went away to college. She, for whatever reason, was not ready. No one in my family pushed her, and she was ready in her own time. She was 18 when she got her license, and she doesn't drive a ton, but she can at least get to where she needs to go now. Maybe when his friends are getting their permits/licenses, he will be more motivated to drive. That sure motivated me!

| Well I hope so KD! I'm not going to push him BUT he has swim practice EVERY DAY during my work hours. Right now,we have a carpool but I think the girl we carpool with is going to quit swimming. And then I don't know if I will be able to leave work early - every day - to get him to practice. During summer, they practice in a long course pool - fairly far away; I just worry I won't be able to do it on my own. But he's aware of this so maybe planning on hitching rides?? I'm hoping!

| My daughter was in a car accident at age 17 that left her a paraplegic and a 17 yr old boy that was in the backseat was killed...Alot of her friends did not get their permit/driving license either...It really made them realize what could happen....I think it is showing alot of maturity for a young person to say "I am just not ready" however, in the state of Virginia those kids that don't get their license by age 18 have to then wait until they are 21 to get them,,,I do not think this is fair and have been working with the Judge to try to get this law changed....at least in this county....you might want to check to see if this is the case in your area...if it is then I would suggest to him to just get the license but that he does not have to drive until he feels ready....good luck. |

I agree that law is not fair. What's the purpose? Glad you are working on it

| I know what you mean.... I sell insurance, and to see people adding a youthful driver with low limits just make me cringe...and they get the whole story and for all of you with young drivers.... talk to your agents....we had a half million dollar policy that paid out in full....and if you have ANY assets the lawyers know your worth before they call...your retirement accounts, homes and future earnings can be taken....be sure you are properly covered....They valued his life at $392,000, believe me, my daughters life is worth much much more that that....just something for each of you to think about... |
