This seems to be infecting a lot of people lately. I had the same thing happen to me over the weekend. If you follow the instructions on the website below, it will remove the malware. There is a link to a spyware/malware program that will remove it from your computer.

How to remove AV Security Suite (Uninstall Guide)

Its a terrible virus! You can get infected just from visiting a website! They are able to insert it into ads on sites.

The site above also suggests keeping software and Windows updates current. I don't have my laptop on all the time, so I think I sometimes skip the automatic updates.

Well - my problem was way worse - nothing worked until I went thru a long process with Matt on the phone - he tried everything and I followed his instructions and that particular program is gone - but I still have a trojan in my memory but we didn't address that one last night because the other one was what we focused on

That is exactly what happened to me too..NOTHING would run. Everytime I tried to do something I got an error that it was infected...even when I tried to reboot my laptop, it said "logon" was infected. It was awful. It just cancelled or shutdown everything I did. When I shut the laptop down, rebooted in "Safe Mode" (runs only minimal Windows functionality) and followed the instructions on that website, it stopped that virus from running and removed it.

A trojan appears to run as a normal program but then allows unauthorized access to your computer. It can allow hackers remote access to your computer. It doesn't always disrupt you working on your computer...but is doing things that are bad behind the scenes.

AV Security Suite looked like a legit program and was telling me my entire computer was infected. It was prompting me to enter my credit card to activate it so it could remove all the "viruses" (which didn't exist -- IT was the virus!)

Villette, I am so glad that it is now working. I had a feeling that when I ran into Matt that he was a good guy.

What a happy ending and I'm glad this thread has been tagged, so that we can easily find it. AllDogBoots that was great you could find someone to help, and Matt welcome to Yorkietalk! V, I'm really glad you can at least use your computer now. I know I've had Trojans in the past, and the security program doesn't get rid of some, but merely quarantines it. I thought this was acceptable.

I had a similar, if not the same horrible AV virus couple of months ago. Spyware Doctor cleaned it, I had MacAfee at the time & along w/Norton, it doesn't detect this virus.

Yea, its always bad to have 2 different anti-virus programs running at the same time, this is how computers get infected more often, cause the two programs are too busy fighting one another to catch anything trying to install on your computer.
