Matt, do you have any recommendations for a good, free anti-virus program? What do you think of AVG and Avast?

I like both of them, but I'm more of a fan of AVG, it doesn't slow the computer down as much as Avast. Looks like we might need a Ask Matt technical questions thread

I am an advocate of Spy Bot Search & Destroy (matt??? LOL)

It is great at detecting and getting rid of spy - and other mal- ware

Not "viruses" per se... but spy ware and all that other garbage (pop ups) etc. can really slow things down

And its free

yes, Spybot Search & Destroy is a good one to use, Their is also a feature I like bout it that seems to stop spyware/malware from installing in the first place, its called immunization, run that after every definition update

I have one picture of him as my Avatar, need to upload more pictures, soon as my fiancee finds her camera. But he just turned 1 back in April, we got him for are 2 almost 3 yo girl

I agree !! I've been seeing more and more people here with computer issues lately and while I know exactly where my trojan came from (a friends hacked email account and I clicked a link thinking she wanted me to read it)..... the problems we're seeing def have nothing to do with this site

these things also can easily be spread thru facebook and other networking sites according to Matt -

I'm already off to refer Matt at Remote Tek Support to friends - on Facebook and in person. I don't go on and on about things but I swear - I would be computerless without his help. It was plain outstanding

I had a friend offer to help me locally - but I wouldn't have had a computer for at least a week .....plus I wasn't all to sure if I wanted to turn my computer over to him AND he'd have wiped out my hard drive -

With Matt - we were able to keep my programs - email AND online access without all the work of wiping out my computer and starting fresh

He had me running the same night I contacted him thru his site. No loss of anything and so far - all is working !

Hello. I am here but I don't know for how long... Been having problems for past 2 weeks... 2 Trojans recently blocked by Avast, screen freezes, mouse hijacked, systems resources low, etc.

Just deleted Temp int files, ran Spy Bot, Spy Bot detected a Rootkit and recommended immediate deletion... looks like rootkit was part of Avast???, uninstalled Avast..., installed AVG. ( which I had used before idiot-in-law changed it to Avast and lost my email), changed the battery in the mouse.

Is there more I need to do, or just wait and see how things go from here?
