| Vehicle Registration My daughter just bought a used car from money she saved up. We didn't even look at the title till we were almost home. Well the guy that my daughter bought the car never had it registered in his name. He gave us a receipt for the money and signed his name on it. MVM won't give her a title until the guy she bought it from has it registered in his name. We called the original owner and the guy we bought the car from with no answers. Does anyone know what we can do to get this straighten out. My poor daugther is in tears, because she earned the money herself. Please if anyone knows what we can do let me know.

| If you have the address for the guy who sold it to you than I would go to the house to speak with him if you do not I would google the phone number to see if you can find the address. If you can not get his address I would call the police and ask them how to handle the situation. Some people without thinking keep there important papers in the glove box of there car I hate to think it but the car could be stolen. If you can not get a hold of the man that sold it to you it really is in your best interest to go to the police, so you are not held liable for anything regarding this. Best of luck I hope it all works out and your daughter is able to register the car. |

| This is probably going to cause some trouble. Sales tax is due each time you buy from a private owner. This guy you bought from probably didn't want to pay the sales tax and did not register it in his name. If he does register it in his name, he will have to pay sales tax, and wait for the title to be returned before he can sign it over to your daughter. Then she will have to pay sales tax again. If there is a way to get out to the deal, that is what I would ask for. If you go back to the original owner, he would have to lie and say he sold it direct to you .... not sure you would want to get involved in that.

| Personaly: I would go back and just say that you bought it from the guy on the title...If they ask why it was signed so long ago? It was being worked on by "Dad" to get it running. I hate to be dishonest, but if you go thru the "long" route, you may end up with a salvage title. Then the resale when/if your daughter wants to sell, will be next to nothing. Good Luck.

| Is your daughter a minor? I think that changes everything. I would go to the police department and have them handle this. The man who sold it to you can apply for a quick title, it should come to him in 7 to 10 business days, then he can sign it and sell the car to your daughter. |

| Actually I do car insurance but in another state, If you go to your car insurance office ask them if they have a form to Ammend the title, you will have to contact the oringal owner if he is around and he will have to go with you to a notary , you fill out the form and have the notary stamp it and the current signature on the title was done in error... Or another option is the origanl seller would have to file for a new title through the DMV this can take around a week or maybe longer in your state.. I would do the first one.. both parties will have to be present your daughter and the org. seller... and a notary , which if I remember correctly in florida are located at banks, if you use his or your bank this transaction is usually free!! Hope that helps. This might work but check with your local insurance agent http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/forms/BTR/82101.pdf |

| We called the man several times without any return calls. This time I called a message that we were going to the Police Dept. and have the sheriff go with us to the owners house. He called within an hour. We went to DMV the next day and he got a new title with the title in his name. He got a quick title, and my daughter is now driving all around. Thanks for all your replys.

| Yay! I'm glad it worked out for your daughter. Luckily, it wasn't a veteran scammer that she ran into. |
