| My father in law feels that way about animal cruelty. He only eats the eggs from his own chickens that he rasies.

| Soy milk IS good. I like the vanilla silk. I had trouble getting my son to drink cows milk when he was a bit younger. He didn't like it. He loved the soy milk though. I think because it is sweeter.

If it was someone I knew personally that had just a few chickens that were allowed to live free and humane lives, then yes, I might just eat eggs again or at least use them in recipes and things... I don't know anyone who has chickens though ![]() It's really hard to watch those videos and then turn around and eat meat or drink milk...Those poor babies... Sorry for getting you stirred up

I don't know what to do now though. About the chickens, I was talking about eggs from somebody you know but if you don't know anyone, I guess that's out. ![]() I wasn't too sure you could trust "cage free" eggs because just because they are cage free doesn't mean they don't cram 1,000 of them in a small building or something... How sad is this.

| I have been doing the vegetarian thing for about 4 months now and I have never felt better. I am having a very hard time giving up eggs and cheese though so if any one could suggest the names of good substitutes I would so appreciate it.

| I have been some form of vegetarian for about 15 years. I did it because I just don't like the way meat tastes, smells, or makes me feel. After going without it for so long, I actually have an allergy to pork, beef, and turkey-my body no longer makes the enzymes to break those proteins down. If I accidentally eat them, I get REALLY sick. I ate vegan for awhile, but during my teen years I didn't do it right, and lost SO much weight, so I added the milk & cheese back in. Then I got anemic and really was still protein deficient, so I added a little chicken back in. I have always eaten fish & seafood-to me that is different, and doesn't make me feel the way other meats do. Anyway-for your thanksgiving-what about a salad of some kind? I have several ideas for you if you think that might work...try greens topped with pear, onion, candied walnuts & pomegranate-looks fancy and is SO good. Or how about rosemary yams? I can send you the recipe-it's yams only savory, not sweet.

| YT 2000 Club Member | I became Vegetarian this past May, so this is my first vegetarian holiday. I bought a Tofurky to take to my moms on Thursday and then I am taking the left overs to my In Laws on Friday. I am also making up my own vegie gravy and a side dish of roasted vegies to my inlaws. I do not use dairy or soy milk in my cooking at all due to my son having allergies, so we use Rice Dream rice milk. But I really like Silk Soy milk, I use that to drink, make a smoothie for myself, or have cereal. Trader Joes is my favorite place to get my Vegetarian products from, they have a few vegan cheeses available, I can't think of the one I had tried about 2 months ago, but it was good. I am going back next week and getting more Also their are other non dairy or vegan cheeses at the regular store like Krogers, our's has a great vegetarian section. They carry the Amy's kitchen "fast" foods, I love their Pop Pies! They are very flavorful and you do not miss the meat not being in at all. Target aslo carries some vegetarian foods as well.Vegetarian Recipes | VegCooking.com has great recipes and also list egg substitutes that you can try. For baking cakes or other sweeter baked goods you can use a banana or apple sauce in place of the egg. Also tofu (1/4 cup per 1 egg) can be blended with the wet ingredients , then added to the dry.

| Congrats on your decision! I reverted back to Vegetarianism last Thanksgiving and have been happy with my choice! I was a vegan for around 6 months, but it was quite difficult. My solution was to find a local dairy farm to buy milk/cheese from where I know the animals are treated humanely. I've also found a local place to buy eggs that way as well. I don't feel comfortable eating soy either after what I've read up on it, so being a vegan without any of those options was too tough for me and I give credit to those who can do it! ![]() I also have been on the search for Thanksgiving recipes, but I think we're just going to stick to the basics (potatoes, veggie stuffing, green bean casserole) and we're doing a roasted vegetable platter. Hubby will still be having turkey though -- he wouldn't budge on that one lol. |

| Suzy, that salad sounds really good! If I could find a local place to get eggs, I would definitely do that, at least every once in awhile. Thanks for all of the tips, everyone!! It's good to know there are others on YT that are vegetarian/vegan... The vegan part is really going to be a struggle for me, so I'm really hoping to find a local farm where I might be able to get eggs/cheese/etc.

| I made that salad today, and added bleu cheese, and topped it with olive oil and balsamic, and everyone loved it!
