Vegetarian Thanksgiving Thursday morning, at work I happened to run across a brochure/magazine by Goveg.com. It was just sitting there, so I decided to read through it... Needless to say, when I got home that night, I went to the website and decided to watch the videos. Wow :( I cried so much that night. I can't get the images out of my head. GoVeg.com // Cruelty to Animals // Cows GoVeg.com // Cruelty to Animals // Pigs GoVeg.com // Cruelty to Animals // Chickens Soooo, I have not eaten meat since Thursday, and I really want to try to stick with this. Help. I need ideas. I do not want to eat dairy products or eggs either. For the last couple of years, I have been in charge of cooking Thanksgiving dinner, but this year, we will be going to my husband's parents' home. I promised to bring 2 dishes (1 side dish and 1 dessert). I will be making sweet potato casserole and I don't know what else. Any ideas?? Please share any vegan recipes you may have. Thanks!! |
you should pick up a copy of the clean eating cookbook. a few really good ideas for tofu meals. my son helped me make the tofu cabbage roll ups and he had 2nds!! (he's only 9). and in the back is an entire section on healthy holiday foods. good luck! t |

Oh, thank you Marci!! I hope she sees this thread. medusa512, thanks for the suggestion :) |
I am far from a vegetarian. But i LALALALOVE tofu-rkey. Its one of the happy times about Thanksgiving. :) |
Hi, check out Vegetarian Times magazine. They always have great recipes and articles. I think the website has a recipe archive as well! I think it's easy to go veg at Thanksgiving even when the rest of the family may not be. My mom even uses vegetable broth in the dressing. |
i wish i could help. im a vegetarian but i cant think of any thanksgiving veg. dishes. i hope someone can help! I have other veg. dishes tho if you would like them, i made a thread about it a while back and many ppl posted dishes. |

Blech. I'm a vegetarian and all.. but, I can't stand tofu. It's... ugg... chewy? No, that's not it... I can't think of any thanksgiving recipes atm. But, HappyCow.com should have something. |
This is what I can think of: Beans and Rice - I use black beans and jasmine rice seasoned with salt and pepper. Saffron is a good seasoning too. Stuffing! - Make or use a vegetable broth and some fresh herbs like parsley or basil. Mushrooms is good to add also. Cauliflower/Broccoli salad - Try to get some 'veganese' from a health food store. Its dairy/egg free mayo. Cut up the veggies and mix with the mayo. Add some sunflower seeds and let sit over night. (Very yummy!) |
Roasted Vegetable Cornucopias with Gravy Vegetarian & Vegan Recipes: In a Vegetarian Kitchen Those are 2 really great sites for vegetarian recipes for the holidays! It's very very hard to go completely vegan all at once so kudos to you for jumping right in :) P.S. I made the veggie cornucopias this past weekend and they are amazing! |

Thanks :) I know it's going to be hard, but I truly want to stick with this. That first recipe sounds absolutely delicious! The other site is great as well. I actually haven't even craved meat YET. Staying away from Thanksgiving turkey won't be too tough since I'm not a big fan of turkey in the first place. The other stuff will be tough though...Most desserts that will be there will probably have cow's milk or eggs and things like that. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. hviola, Thanks for the tip on the "vegenase" :) I will look for it tomorrow. |
