Something is very wrong with this whole story.
I just hope this poor little dog gets the care it deserves.

Default I do understand

not having the money to take care of this pup. I am a single lady and when my Benni had an overdose, my rent money, car payment money and every dime I had and could borrow went to pay for his vet bill. Call someone, if you have ten friends and they can each loan you $10 that is a start. I will finally have all the loans from friends and bills paid off next week from Benni's February vet bills. It has been a long hard road (working two jobs at my age) but when I got the boys I took on the responsibility to make sure that they got appropriate care. Good luck and prayers to your babies.

It is a crime to not do something about a dog that you know is sick and you will be held liable for it if it is not treated. Ive worked as an animal control officer and I have dealth with this sort of thing a few times. Most people do not den thier dog medical care, even if that means turning them over to the animal shelter.

I have a very close friend that lives in Arkansas and being the investigative person that I am and since I haven't talked to her recently I called her today to see if there were no vets in that state that she knew of that are open on saturdays. She told me that almost every (9 out of 10) vets in that state that she knows of, and she has lived all over the state, have emergency lines to call and they will work on a payment arrangement. No vet is going to honestly turn away a dog that is in this serious of a condition. It isn't right. If they did turn the dog away to die as you said that your friend had happened then they are opening themselves up for alot of trouble.

I am hoping by the fact that you haven't been on here at all late this afternoon you are getting this poor dog taken care of. If you aren't then I hope you do. WHy add legal problems to everything else?

hmm.. I really don't like some of the posts people left for me on here, and I may not post anymore. First of all, I said I was trying to get a job being a vet assistant.. which means I do not have a job currently, my husband makes the money and obviously the decisions of what to do with the money and he didn't want to spend money on her, nor did we have the money.. he just had appendacitis and the bill for that is EXPENSIVE. I called lots of animal clinics.. most close at 12 on Saturdays.. and none would even hold a check for us.. I didn't really take this dog in.. I was holding it while my aunt found it a home.. and I was going to try to have its legs fixed for it if it wasn't expensive. I didn't take it to the vet to have its legs looked at since its only been here a couple of days. Anyway.. my aunt decided to pay for it.. Which charged us over 100.00 upfront.. (and we dont have any money so Im glad she did this for me) so we took her.. it will take 2,000.00 to have its legs fixed.. and it had coccidia.

Well, Im glad that it was coccidia and not Parvo.. too Scary!!
Don't be upset with some of the posts.. We are just intense with our pups sometimes and we may come across harshly but really it is because we care. Our intentions were not to offend. Look how many posts there were trying to help you.. That is what it's about right? Taking care of our babies to the best of our ability even if its hard on the wallet sometimes.
Im glad that she was able to be seen. Hugs to your Aunt for helping you out. And I hope your husband is feeling much better.

Yeah, I was thinking of having her put to sleep b/c of all her problems, and then we got to the vet and she came over to me and laid her head by me.. and I decided even if she had parvo I wouldn't put her to sleep. I am always saving animals.. and taking them to the vet when they are injured.. but sometimes I guess I get in over my head. Thanks everyone who gave advice. We are going to take her to the vet Friday to be spayed and x-rayed to see what we can do about the legs. She was born with them like that because of the overcrowding in mom. They said her legs don't cause her pain, but I want her to be able to walk normal.. so now I gotta find a way to come up with 2,000 for her legs.

I am so happy that it was not parvo. The diarrhea may last for a couple more days, so don't worry if it isn't resolved quickly. Keep her on a chicken/rice diet and very slowly reintroduce her normal dog food after her stools firm up and are no longer bloody.

AFAIK, coccidia isn't very contagious so your Yorkies should be in the clear

BIG hugs to you for getting this resolved and helping your pup on the road to recovery

It's a Saturday, so the vets are closed, and the emergency vets want a LOT of money up front, and I don't have any, so what should I do with her? I just got her a couple of days ago, someone my aunt worked with was going to put her to sleep cause she can't use her back legs, she just drags them.. the thing is I have 2 other yorkies.. and Im terrified of them catching it. But, she is eating fine.. are these the symptoms of parvo? and if so.. how do I get it out of my house and yard?
From this post the information in my head was you had a pup given to a couple of days ago and it is sick with bloody diahreah and has no use of its back legs and still has not been seen at a vets office...IMHO i think this pup should have been seen immeaditly upon taking ownership.

I don't know.. a clinic turned my friend away when she brought her dog to the emergency vet because of it.. b/c she didn't have 500 upfront.. so she had to take it home and let it die.
From this post the information in my head is ...Now i am reading that this pup is 5 months old, you had her given to you for free because she is suffering with dragging her legs...still has not been seen by a vet for diagnosis of her medical conditions...IMHO when you took this pup in it should have been taken to a vet immediately.

I am thinking about just having her put to sleep cause if she has parvo.. i'd have to have that fixed (which is expensive) and then she'd still have the leg problem. And shes 5 mnths and hardly has any teeth.. (shouldn't they have baby teeth by then?) I think she has more problems than the legs.. we just don't know it yet.My other dogs have been around her, and shes been all over our house.. so I'm praying to god that my babies didn't catch it. I know theres no way I could afford to treat all 3 of them. When I was working in a vets office and had to deal with a puppy that had parvo.. she said that dogs that are over 2 years old most likely will not catch it.. but if they are under 2 and even if they have been vaccinated theres still a chance.
The info in my head here is.....You put in your profile that you are a vets assistant, unemployed at the moment and was not financialy secure to be taking this pet into your home, knowing that she would need medical attention right away because of her medical conditions...and a vet assistant not knowing when puppy teeth come in ...hmmmm and then you talk of having her put to sleep, is this not what you were trying to save this precious baby from....hmmm

Now you are telling me that you were only holding the puppy until it reaches a final destination,,,, then why were you going to invest in getting this pups legs "fixed" if you had no intention on keeping the baby....as for not seeking treatment because offices close at noon ...well thats what emergency clinics are for....
Sorry if i have offened you but i only posted on the information that you posted in the forum....I am glad that you took this pup in for treatment...I truely hope the best for you!

I woke up in the night worrying about this poor puppy! From reading the posts I'm not sure this poor pup has been seen for a vet!
There are some things that don't make sense. The main thing is that this pup be in a good home with someone that is going to take care of it and give it the medical care it needs and deserves.
There were several suggestions here for you in getting this dog help.
The one and only concern of any of the posters here is, I'm sure, the well being of this dog.
If anything I said has offended you, I did not mean to do that.
But I must say that my biggest concern is the health of this puppy.
I do hope that this dog has been seen by a vet and we are just not being told that.
Why oh why do people take in animals then not give them the care they deserve.

I was thinking on these same lines ( has the pup really been seen or not) but did not want to further offend anyone...I can only hope the little furbaby has been seen.

Well....since this thread is still active - I REALLY REALLY hope someone will take in this baby and give her the love she deserves - and if she really has coccidia - please watch for signs of it with the other pets you may have - that is contagious too -

I'm glad it's not parvo - but it sounds like a few different stories were told and we want you to know we are only here to help...there are many people on this site that take in rescues and will foot medical bills out of love for dogs - Talking about putting her to sleep and not taking this yorkie to a vet immediatly just brought out the care and compassion of people and was not meant to offend you -

I really hope she's had vet care and is getting treatment - no dog should suffer when we can prevent it - The money will be well worth it and there's always a way if we really try - I've been where you are financially - but no way would my girls not get medical treatment if they needed it - Good luck to you !

Default Parvo

In looking at past postings by this person I found this, she posted on 08-18-2005, 01:49 PM

I couldn't find a pekingese forum.. so I figured the problem I have would probably apply to any dog breed. Someone my aunt worked with was going to have this pekingese put to sleep cause she drags her back legs. So my aunt took her and gave her to me. It doesn't seem like it causes her any pain.. she still plays and deals with it. The woman doesn't know whats wrong with her legs, I guess she never took her to the vet. I would like to take her soon and find out if it can be fixed but right now I still owe a bill for another dog I took in. Does anyone have any information on what could be wrong with her until then.. and if it would be an expensive problem to fix? She kindof walks like a seal.

From reading this note, this is not a Yorkie, but a pekinese.
Now I'm REALLY confused!!

In her defense, she never led us to believe the puppy was a yorkie. She simply said "this puppy..." She probably assumed we would remember her previous thread about taking in a pekingese. We're here to help all animals
