| parvo I think this dog has parvo. I noticed late last night she had diarrhea.. and this morning when I woke up it smelled REALLY bad in here, and her pet taxi has diarrhea all in it and she had it all over her.. I took her outside and noticed that blood was coming out of her when she pooped. It's a Saturday, so the vets are closed, and the emergency vets want a LOT of money up front, and I don't have any, so what should I do with her? I just got her a couple of days ago, someone my aunt worked with was going to put her to sleep cause she can't use her back legs, she just drags them.. the thing is I have 2 other yorkies.. and Im terrified of them catching it. But, she is eating fine.. are these the symptoms of parvo? and if so.. how do I get it out of my house and yard? |

| I agree. I would take her to the emergency vet. Parvo is not something to mess around with. Good luck.

| How old is your pup? It could be coccidia, which is bloodly, smelly diarrhea. AWFUL stuff. Most puppies have it in their system and their immume system can handle it. BUt a change of environment or some other stress can cause it to overcome the immune system. A simple fecal test will diagnose it. The treatment is Albon for 10 days and possible flagyl or metronidazle for the diarrhea. Keep us posted as to her progress. Also, you need to immediately change her diet to boiled chicken and boiled white rice. It's easier to digest and will help settle her tummy. Has she had her parvo vaccine? |

| Okay, I just thought I would go on the net and see if they had anything that might help.. Im not saying this will as I have "never" tried it.. But I cant think of anything else to help your little one if you cant get her to the vet.. This is a home remedy COCCIDIA ---- Go to the vitamin section of your local pharmacy or retail store. Purchase a bottle of ACIDOPHILUS capsules. This is the natural Pectin like in apples. When you first start feeding puppies wet food, sprinkle about half of one of these capsules over the food. It replaces the "good bacteria" needed in the digestive tract to fight coccidia or diarhea. Do this for about 7 days or until you get a good firm stool. This is all natural, therefore you can not overdose. A bottle of 100 capsules costs about $4. I also read as article in "Los Chihuahua" magazine that stated if you would mix one capsule with 10 ccs of milk and feed one cc to each new-born puppy, the puppies would get a better start and you would not experience "fading puppy syndrom". Now we found something that even works when the Acidoophilus doesn't. PLAIN VANILLA YOGURT. This home remedy is nothing short of a miracle drug. We use the "Dannon's" brand plain vanilla. Just put it into a small saucer and let them eat as much as they want. It can even be administered with a syringe by mouth when they refuse to eat on their own. I have very good luck by adding a teaspoon to the formula I feed to newborns when they are orphaned. PARVO--- |

| Parvo I have flashbacks to when I was a kid and we lost two puppies to Parvo...just the name freaks me out!! I remember coming home on my birthday at the age of 10 and finding my puppy Baby gone, and the mess...Sorry. I'm terrified of this disease and make sure ALL my babies are safe from it by getting them vaccinated. I wouldn't mess around with your little one...I've seen the horrors of this disease and would hate for you and your baby to go through it! Keep us posted please!!

| I find it hard to believe that a Vet would turn away a sick puppy just because the person can't pay up front. I thought they got into the job because of a love for animals. Does it always have to be about money? I know they have bills to pay too but geeeeeeeeeeeeeez! This is so sad and an emergency. |

| Maybe if you take it to an animal shelter or human society of some sort it might be a lot cheaper and they might just be open on the weekend? If your dog does have Parvo please make sure to keep it away from the other dogs and if it goes #2 in your yard or elsewhere please pick it up and dispose of it...other dogs can get this disease this way. Also be careful when you do go to the vet, dont put your dog on the ground... I remember when I went in when Kelsey had it, they were like shouting pratically "Dont put her on the ground, pick her up!" b/c they can go to the bathroom and give it to another dog....etc. It is very contagious and deadly! Good luck and PLEASE keep us posted..if not everyone else PM me and let me know if you have any other questions! I am very concerned for you!

| She is about 5 mnths old, and supposively has all of her vaccines, but I dont' have the records or anything.. we got her free cuz the lady was going to have her put to sleep due to her dragging her legs.. it was a backyard breeder. I don't know.. a clinic turned my friend away when she brought her dog to the emergency vet because of it.. b/c she didn't have 500 upfront.. so she had to take it home and let it die. |
