| I actually got this recipe from a friend a month or two ago. I was soooooooooo eager to try it out. First attempt, don't know what I did but it was horrendous! Second attempt I was trying to be exact and perfect, a small cake might need extremely exact measurements. Anyway, second attempt, slightly better, but still not good.I followed the directions except I had no chocolate chips on hand. My microwave is 1100 watts so I mic'ed it for about 2:30-2:45 minutes. It did rise but not very much and not over the mug. The overall texture was spongy and rubbery (which makes me think that even 2:30 burnt it). I'm not sure. The only thing I can think of that might be making me kill this potentially awesome cake is that I used regular flour, not self rising flour. ![]() But then again I'm not a baker, I can cook, and I can cook desserts but I'm not the best at baking. |

self rising from what I read above. Give it a try. I have been painting and haven't been able to get to my microwave.. Anyone try it yet? What did you think? And suggestions for variations?

| I should add that I don't know how this will fit in a coffee mug. I mixed it in a small glass mixing bowl and its the perfect size.

| I used veggie oil as well. I mean, it was dense compared to betty crocker, but it was very good! I think if I had choc chips it would have been even better! I wonder if you add some baking soda it would fluff better? I did lower the cooking time on mine too if that helps. It took about 2 minutes for me.

Whenever I've made it it never seems to mix properly. The first time the oil didn't mix in. The second time it mixed together well enough but was very thin. I just don't know. I was thinking if I tried again to cook it on power 8 or 9 (instead of full blast, power 10) and see if that made a difference, maybe cooking it even for a shorter amount of time on a higher wattage microwave is burning it....Maybe I should be happy, I can't get myself in to so much trouble. You know a quick and delicious chocolate cake could spell disaster. | |

| Oh my goodness! This cake was amazing! Not necessarily the BEST cake I've ever eaten, but I can't believe how good it tasted in the microwave. I did it for 2 and a half minutes, I have a really powerful oven. I was wishing I had my camera because when I looked through the window the cake had risen about 3 inches above the mug! It was just standing up there. When it finished it looked like a balloon, deflating back into the mug. Thanks for such a fun recipe!

| I finally got around to trying it tonight. I made mine a bit less fattening by using egg substitute for the egg and 3 tbsp. of plain non-fat yogurt instead of the oil. I did sin and put real sugar in it instead of Splenda. I did not have any chocolate chips, so I put some cherry Hershey kisses in there, just a couple. I have a 1300 watt microwave. I used a very large Starbucks mug and nuked it for 3 minutes. It came no where near to going over the top of that mug. At first it was very spongy, kind of strange. The more it cooled, the better it got. Try some Hershey syrup on top. Yum! Next time I will nuke it for 2 1/2 minutes and will let it cool all the way before eating it, if I can wait that long!

| Looks great. Its so ironic. I was just thinking this morning that since I don't drink coffee, I'll never get to use my new mugs. How perfect! Thanks!
