But she is getting fed and gaining weight and seems to sleep comfortably, so what is the urgency? What would a vet tell her to do that she is not already doing? | |

| ![]() I see no reason why this thread should be closed. Dena may not have experience with a puppy with cleft palate but she is doing everything within her power to help this pup and keep it as comfortable as possible. It is no different for a parent with a skinbaby with birth defects. You meet with numerous doctors so you can make an informed decision and go from there. You are suddenly thrust into the role of "nurse" and you have to learn as you go and do the best job you can. This pup has been to the vet several times and I'm sure is will have good follow-up care. No different than surgery on human...as time goes by the doctor visits become further apart...unless of course there are complications. I'm am sure Dena has been well instructed by her vet as to what those could be and what to look for. Emma was not anesthetized because of her size BUT...she was given local anesthesia. She is being tube fed, which bypasses her cleft palate and lungs, directly into her stomach. After each feeding Dena taps her lungs to help with the prevention of pneumonia. I hope some of this information puts come of your concerns at ease. None of us are walking in Dena's shoes. She has had to make decisions based on the medical information she has received and non of us were in attendance to know all of the facts. Personally, I commend her for this heartwarming effort she has made to help this puppy. There are millions of people in this world with birth defects and they lead happy, satisfying lives.

| ![]() Well...back to why most of us are here...I'm anxious for an update on "our little Emma" and miss seeing her on the live feed. Hope Dena gets home soon and gives us an update. ![]()

| ![]() Prayers to Little Emma and Dena from Mia and I... I think you are doing a wonderful job and you have made the right decissions at the time you were making them. You were doing what you needed to do. I commend you for the love and care that you have given "our" little Emma and I thank you personally for letting us watch her on your cam. She has become all of ours and we all love her very much. I had to go back to school this week, but I watch her from my desk as much as I can. Everyday when I log on and I see her growing and thriving, makes me happy... She is so lucky to have you and If I ever get sick, you could definitely be my nurse... ![]()

Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() To be honest..it would be nice if Dena would reply to the questions that have been posed and not have people speak for her. The dog has been since twice by the vet...once before surgery and the day of surgery. I do understand while I would seek professional follow up care obviously not everyone agrees. Seems odd in the sick forum...if someone mentions diarrhea...the advice they are given is go to the vet's. This certainly seems a more serious condition.

| ![]() My understanding is that Dena was told if the last stitches didn't hold there was nothing they could do. Now that was not her personal vet but the one that replaced the stitches. Dena is using a topical antibiotic on the wound, there is nothing going down into Emma's throat/palate whatever you want to call it. Emma is healing very well and has already scabbed over. She is gaining weight every day and is moving around like crazy and loving to cuddle with her snuggle puppy. She is in no pain or Dena would be doing something about it. Emma will have to heal and have surgery when she is a little older. For now she seems to be just fine with the tube feeding and is being loved to death by Dena and many of us here on YT and all over the world. For Dena's sake it wouldn't bother me any if this thread was closed because she can update us who care elsewhere. She doesn't need to read all these ridiculous accusations. As far as I'm concerned she is doing an amazing job and being extremely selfless in caring for Emma. We love you Emma!!!
