Btw, Crystal, I'm just curious if there are any animal groups who you think "get it right" bc I'd be curious which ones you do like.

| ![]() No, I don't expect to agree with 100% of everything that a group says but I do expect them to be reasonable. For example, not saying that ALL animal should be spayed or neutered. That's silly. It wouldn't be such a big deal that they take these stands but the legislation in the US is starting to shift that way and it is wrong. What ridiculous things have they done? This is a combination for PETA and the Humane Society. Advocating spay/neuter for all animals/supporting AB1634 in California (what is this, communism?). It is my choice whether my dog gets altered, not anyone else's (although I would consider penalties for breeding if you don't know what you're doing). Saying we shouldn't buy from breeders...what if I like purebred Yorkies? Is that so bad? The Humane Society's leader is very well off (income). I'm not saying he should be poor but then they think we all should donate. Why doesn't he give the first $25,000? Then they spend all that money on colored photos telling us we should donate while they could of just sent one piece of paper and spent the rest on helping animals. ![]() The Humane Society (and probably PETA too) are pretty open about saying if you want to be responsible you will spay/neuter. Ellie wasn't spayed until she was six and that was on the advice of her vet. So I"m not responsible? And no, she was never pregnant. And do they think we should all become vegetarians? I have not the least bit of problem with vegetarians but to say that everyone should be is not right (but I do support laws that would eliminate farm animal abuse).

As far as those organizations that are actually saving animals, I like the idea but none really stand out to me. I do like the subsidized vet hospitals (I think that's what it is) that you see on Emergency Vets (where the refer people who can't afford it). I don't know if ASPCA and Humane Society are the same. The ASPCA doesn't bother me too much yet.... except for their insistance on spay/neuter (from what I see on Animal Precinct). I also don't mine specific breed rescues if it is done right. That is, if it is done well.

| ![]() I think my issue with Peta is that they aren't for animal rescue, they are for animal rights. And animal rights the way I understand it is that they believe no animals should be kept as companions and they'd be better off dead than "domesticated". I feel that animals enrich our lives so very much and truly believe that a good animal owner can equally enrich that pets life. Also, from the movie "your mommy kills animals" there's a lot of info on Peta. Two people that worked there actually went to an adoption facility, claimed to be adopting out the animals and killed them, put them in garbage bags in a dumpster and said they "saved" them. It's too outrageous and cruel for me, personally and I used to really think Peta was great-- before I knew what it was all about. |

![]() If you read my previous post (page 2 I think) - it quotes PETA's website on pets - and it absolutely does NOT say what you say above. Maybe read their website before you judge too harshly. ![]()

| ![]() a 97% kill rate is alarming any way you look at it. 12 adoptions in 2006? They get milions donated to them. Cant some of these dogs that are unhealthy be treated instead of put down? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() 9,600,000 pets are euthanized every year....and mostly by Humane Assn's. Humane assn's get tier 1, 2, and 3 animals (3 being those who are euthanized immediately) - hence, their 64% rate of euthanasia. PETA gets almost exclusively tier 3 animals - hence, their higher euthanasia rate. It's really that simple. (tier 3 animals, btw, are those who are critically injured, critically ill, and/or violent toward humans and not able to rehabilitate)

This is my personal opinion from research that I've done and I stand by it. There is absolutely no reason on this earth to do what was done with the dogs being killed and left in a dumpster. I also highly dislike their very in your face marketing strategy and over the top ways they get their point across. I was an absolute supporter of Peta even up until a year ago when I stopped just reading what *they* were saying and looked at what they were *doing*. I don't think everything is horrible about Peta. Some things are helpful. I don't see life in black and white where things are 100% great or 100% terrible. I just received their vegetarian starter kit that was well written and a great aid. But I just dislike them, more than I like them and their tactics. I think there are other animal welfare groups with less recognition but a far more helpful message. | |

Personally I think Peta has made us all more vasily aware of animal abuses. I applaud that. I do not always agree with their methods or their stance on everything. Peta has a very good PR machine.... My view is colored because they are here in my backyard. There is alot of stuff they do...that never makes the national media.

| ![]() http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c15_1200416787 This is the story I was reffering to that changed a lot of my opinions about Peta. Now maybe this was just these two individuals that did this, but I just have not been able to support Peta since I learned of it. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Yes, exactly. Could not agree more. I don't support everything they do (as I've posted) - but I do support the good that they do in terms of bringing issues to the public.
