9,600,000 pets are euthanized every year....and mostly by Humane Assn's. Humane assn's get tier 1, 2, and 3 animals (3 being those who are euthanized immediately) - hence, their 64% rate of euthanasia. PETA gets almost exclusively tier 3 animals - hence, their higher euthanasia rate. It's really that simple. (tier 3 animals, btw, are those who are critically injured, critically ill, and/or violent toward humans and not able to rehabilitate)
