Personally I think Peta has made us all more vastly aware of animal abuses. I applaud that. I do not agree with their methods or their stance on everything. My view is colored because Peta is here in my backyard. Alot of peta news never makes the national media...and when it does...Peta has a very good PR department. Many people here were appauled when peta employees were arrested for euthanizing adoptable animals they picked up from shelters here. The shelters were told the animals were being transferred so they could be adopted. But they killed them instead. Peta headquarters said...oh, we didn't tell them to do that. Ok...well the pick up arrangement had been in place (wasn't a one time thing)...the employees were in a peta van...and used peta supplied medicines for the euthanzia. And peta didn't know anything about it? Ok, sure. Another instance...peta employee picks up a hunting dog who wore a tracking collar plus had the owner's name and number on a tag. She removed the collar from the animal and tossed it by the roadside. Another driver saw her pick up the dog...called the owner...who called the police...stopped the van and went back and found the collar. She insisted she wanted to return the dog to his owner...that's why she picked him up. Ok, well you had all the information...but you tossed it. Those made the news.... I took my daughter to the circus when she was around 4/5 years old...a pamplet is given to her by a Peta protestor...it's peta materials being handed out...and the pictures in that pamphlet were gruesome. Do I feel bad for abused elephants? Sure....but I was really po'd at Peta for handing that to my child. Fortunately they are no longer allowed to hand you anything...they get to stand there...but can't approach anyone. The bloody happy meals? Remember those? Handed out here to children. Shooting at fishermen in the Chesapeake Bay...although they said they weren't shooting AT the men...they were trying to scare the fish away. Too bad Peta just happened to be aiming in the same direction.

We dont support circuses anymore but they shouldnt have been doing that in front of young children

Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() Btw the animals euthanized by the peta employees....weren't all old sick animals. It included a couple of litters of kitten and puppies. The shelters even said...all of the animals taken would have been adopted had they stayed...they released them to Peta to reduce the number of animals at the shelter. I think it would make more of an impact if PETA offered the reduced spay/neuters to EVERYONE...instead of just the elderly or poor. And campaign with shelters....to relax some of those rules implemented for adoptions now. Here...no fence yard...means no dog/puppy. Work full time...no puppy...un altered animal in your home...sorry you can't adopt. My friend went to adopt an adult cat...and couldn't because her dog wasn't neutered. I use to get all my animals from shelters...but there are too many hoops to jump through anymore.

Peta PR says...we are educating children. Yeah, while ticking off their parents.

| ![]() Oh yay! YT is back up. I typed this post eatlier and when I went to submit YT was down. So anyway, here it is. ![]() LOL, okay, trust me, I get it- y'all don't like PETA. ![]() As I said, I really didn't start this thread to debate PETA. I respect all of your feelings that it doesn't speak to you and that's fine because we are lucky to be living in a time when there are more animal advocacy groups than ever so everyone should be able to find something. I just started this thread to point out why PETAs numbers were so high and who the CCF admittedly is. If anyone has a specific issue or concern that they want me to address that hasn't already been addressed I'll be happy to do so. Now, at this point I have no problem agreeing to disagree. ![]()

| ![]() Just a few statements about the real agenda of PITA that is not posted on their website. Its really all about us not owning, breeding, eating or using animals in any way. Of course to say this would not bring donations. They do believe animals are "better off dead than bred". Statements made by Ingrid Newkirk, the President of PETA: “I don’t use the word 'pet.' I think it’s speciesist language. I prefer 'companion animal.' For one thing, we would no longer allow breeding. People could not create different breeds. There would be no pet shops. If people had companion animals in their homes, those animals would have to be refugees from the animal shelters and the streets. You would have a protective relationship with them just as you would with an orphaned child. But as the surplus of cats and dogs (artificially engineered by centuries of forced breeding) declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship – enjoyment at a distance.” — The Harper's Forum Book, “One day, we would like an end to pet shops and the breeding of animals. [Dogs] would pursue their natural lives in the wild ... they would have full lives, not wasting at home for someone to come home in the evening and pet them and then sit there and watch TV.” — The Chicago Daily Herald, 3/1/90 “In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether.” — Newsday, 2/21/88 |
