| My husband and i were totally scammed My husband purchased a used truck from a small car lot a few months ago. The tags from dmv never came so he went into the dmv to find out what was going on and they said the company never paid the fees and there is a lien on the truck from the previous owners that was never paid. We called the car lot and the number didn't work, we checked around and found out they filed bankrupt the day after they sold the truck to us. They never paid any fees, so basically they took our money and ran! We called the lien holder to see what they could do to clear the title so we could register it and they said they are the owners of the truck and are coming to get it, with the police if we are uncooperative. What the heck can we do? We are out $8,000! Last edited by chloeandj; 11-19-2007 at 11:57 AM. |

| Quick, hide the truck and call an attorney or the attorney general's office. That's BS.

| That is horrible.!!!! You need to report these people to the police right away. Before I released the truck I would demand proof of ownership. I called my husband who manages a major car dealership. He said if they own the car there is nothing you can do about it. It really is their property. He said you could hire an attorney but doubts that would help. You need to find out how these guys were operating. Were they a corp? LLP????? I would definately report them to the state's attorney general. I would think that technically they sold you stolen property so you could go after them for that. It is against the law to sell you a car that doesnt have a clean title. I mean they cant sell you a car that THEY don't own. I think this is where the attorney could help but you will be shelling out more money!!! So so sorry this happened to you! I hope there is a light at the end of this nasty tunnel for you soon!!! |

No Longer a Member | How did you pay for it? If it was paid with a credit card or a loan from a bank, contact them to explain and see if they can do anything. I'm so sorry this happened to you. There are some really awful people in the world Also, you make sure they DO come with the police. Who's to say they are trying to scam you. I'd insist on the police being there, and you should call the police to make sure yourself. Last edited by mistyinca; 11-19-2007 at 12:18 PM. |

I think maybe i should file a police report. I don't know what that will do but i'm sure i should. My hubby is going to take off the new tires we just put on it and the camper shell. Theyre going to need a tow truck to take it. | |

| I'd call an attorney that gives a free consulation and see what your legal rights are. That's horrible. You'll probably have to sue the car dealer even if they went bankrupt you have the right to get your money back.

| This is awful! I'm so sorry this happened to you... I don't know that your bank will be able to do anything this late in the game... It also sounds like you did not take the loan out on the truck, but paid it in full and the loan is on your house... Your only real chance is going to be sueing them in civil court if you can find them... I wish you the best of luck! |
