I'd much prefer to just refer to Denise in Sutton, MA rather than placing a link to her web site. Why give her a larger audience than she already pays for. The link to her web site continually pops up on "Ads from Google" right here on YorkieTalk along with other puppymills.

I had called all the breaders I could find in the area when looking for a puppy. She is one of the many poeple I spoke to.

I actually laughed out loud into the phone when she told me the price range for her dogs. out.of.control!
I too noticed that the pictures on her site did not change. They are still the same now as they were over a year ago when I contacted her.

I ended up going to a breader outside of the MA area becuase I could not justify paying show dog prices for a pet and it seemed that EVERY breader I spoke to in MA was doing just that. Supply and demand I guess.

I just wanted to add to this thread--I didn't buy a yorkie from this woman, but I did get a little doxie from her. He's perfectly healthy, but this woman is truly dishonest. We wanted a longhaired doxie, and I should have listened to my gut when I called--twice--and both times she said she couldn't tell what their coats would be like because they were only six weeks old. Now, any good doxie breeder knows what the coats will be like at 2 weeks--certainly by six. We figured she had smooths or broken coats and since we were actually fine with either of those, we went to see them anyway.

Second warning sign we ignored: her friend (?) made us wait for Denise in a room with several yorkies. They were very sweet, but one was covered in wartlike things--I don't know anything about yorkies so I can't tell you what the deal is with that. But it can't be good.

And then the puppies were brought to us--cutest little things in the world! Of course we fell in love with one and took him, only to find out well after the fact that he's a wire, which if you are wanting a smooth or longhair, they are NOTHING LIKE A WIRECOAT--wires look like terriers, with beards, eyebrows, etc. Naturally we loved him too much already to return him, but please know this woman is all about the sale. She knew nothing about the puppies' personalities--or at least pretended she didn't, because she clearly just wanted to sell them. At the end when we took our boy she said perfunctorily, "Oh, I'm going cry, I love him so much", which was clearly nonsense, since she didn't even know anything about his little personality. Anyway, we love him, but please don't go to this woman. She is all about the sale. I can't tell you how many other products she tried to shill to us while we were there. Saleswoman through and through. And everything everyone says about her website is true--I was suspicious she didn't have pictures of the actual pups for sale but my own eagerness for a puppy won over my common sense.

Default Bad Yorkie Reseller

We purchased our two yorkies from Denise in August 2009. I am so upset by the information that I have read on this sight. We all have the same story- the price, the setting (we were at the Bristol summer house) the stories of famous buyers, magazine articles, and tv shows. We brought one home with coccidiosis, and had to administer antibiotics. Up until May of this year they have been fine, our bigger one has floppy years and was more behind that his "brother"(maybe, maybe not) in developing. He has come along but has fear issues especially with other dogs. He came down with pancreatitis- 4k later! Our smaller one has a skin rash and they both bite their front paws - which the vet says is nervousness. I now plan on having them tested further. We love our boys more than anything. I am torn thinking that we were taken, but at least we got them out of there- we never received papers nor we never saw the mother, it was our first purchase and we fell for it hook, line, and sinker. I can only hope they have a long life.

So glad we were able to help RubiRed21!!! I have heard positive things about Clover Hill Yorkies (they are in MA) and if Southern Maine isnt too far, Taylor Made Yorkies. Holly (the woman behind Taylor Made Yorkies) is very nice and very experienced. She is honest and straight-forward. You can check out her site and yorkies at taylormadeyorkies.com. Good luck!

I always recommend the YTCA list for breeder referral, if you think you can offer a great home to a Yorkie, you should find the very best breeder who will sell to you! A breeder who is breeding for the right reasons, as in to improve the breed instead of just someone who sells dogs, often has much better pricing as well. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Also, don't just email them, they get lots of emails, call them and ask them about their breeding program. Please don't start out by asking them how much a dog is, this really turns them off, build a relationship and see if they are the type of breeder you wish to support.

There are several great breeders in Connecticut. If you go to my website (yorkies.com) you'll find a link to my recommended breeders. All of my current Yorkies, with the exception of our newest one, came from separate breeders in CT. (Sheri Clark, Kathleen Kolbert, and Maureen Bergin) Kalie came from Fran Smith in Argertina!

I'm glad you answered!

RubiRed21, I'd pay attention to what satman has to say, he's been in the Yorkie world a long time, and knows the breeders personally.

A list of any kind is only representing the opinions of the author. Keep in mind that one person's recommendation is another person's warning. I would encourage you to ask the breeders what kind of testing they do to their breeding stock, whether they are actively showing in conformation events, and what they do when things go wrong. I unfortunately did not ask enough questions when I bought my dog, and he has many problems. His breeder refused to stand behind her health guarantee so I reluctantly accepted a partial refund as a full settlement. I applied this partial refund to the many thousands of dollars I have spent to diagnose and treat my dog for his problems. And once I received the partial payment, I never heard from the breeder again, even when I later contacted her to inform her that Teddy had yet another serious problem: leggs-calves-perthes disease.

If you are considering finding a dog another way, I've had a great recent experience with Yorkies, Inc. where I adopted a young dog who comes from a CT show breeder.

Kathy, you brought up some excellent points, as many have said before, any breeder can produce a puppy with problems, it's what they do after that that tells the difference. I may be wrong, but didn't Teddy's breeder continue to use the sire that produced Teddy, even stud him out?

Unfortunately, there is not list that is guaranteed to be safe, you have to do your homework, and be patient.

Nancy,
Teddy's breeder who knew Teddy had epilepsy and intention tremors bred his littermate. The sire was from another area breeder who also knew about teddy's epilepsy and intention tremors. I am not a breeder so I can't say what's right or wrong with what she did, but I know that some breeders have told me they would never have risked breeding a litter mate of an epileptic dog! Turns out one of the pups from that mating has some issues as well. I hope the breeder is not continuing to breed the littermate now because I did tell her about the leggs-calves-perthes disease. It's upsetting still that she really does not care about Teddy, but we have moved on. I will say that Teddy is a beautiful and sweet dog despite his problems.

This is just so heartbreaking, I know you really wanted to find a good breeder when you were looking for Teddy. I guess the "lists" didn't work for you at all. So sorry, but I've got to admit, I wonder what would have become of Teddy, if anyone else had purchased him.

I'm glad I read this post! My husband & I were looking for a yorkie and Denise's website was the first one that popped up. I called and sent her an email with no response. We actually found our breeder in RI. Betty Wilkinson from "Yorkies make your heart smile". She is extremely knowledgeable. We can't wait to pick up our little girl in a few weeks!

So pleased to hear you avoided the MA breeder.
Hopefully you saved yourself heartache and expense
