This is my first post on YT since I've found my way back, but I was one of Denise's customers seven years ago. Back then I couldn't find anyone locally who had yorkie pups available. Came across her name and number through an internet search and voila! She had puppies!

We were so excited, made an appointment to meet with her, and thought it was so cute when all those yorkies (all shapes and sizes) came out to meet us in the driveway - loose! All happy, friendly dogs. And her front door was wide open! She was very nice (of course), had a bunch of older pups in an x-pen right there in the kitchen supposedly awaiting their new families to come bring them home. "Our" puppy she brought up from the basement in a basket - 3 teeny, tiny puppies, all boys. They fit in the palm of my hand. I was hooked.

We got a big flowery story about how fantastic this litter was. She showed us a picture of the dog on the cover of The Book of the Yorkshire Terrier by Brearley, saying that was his grandfather!!!!! (OMG, we were sooooo stupid!) We put a deposit (check) on our boy but she told us since we were the first to call, we had "pick of the litter."

Almost every weekend, we tried to get down to MA to visit our boy, Riley. We brought him a little receiving blanket and toys so he would be able to remember our scent. One weekend, she only brought 2 boys up for us. Strange.....where was the 3rd little guy (the smallest one)? I am not sure and could be wrong, but I know I saw her husband on the back porch with company, holding a tiny york that appeared to be one of Riley's littermates. It's my belief, that boy was the tiniest of the litter that she wasn't showing us for a specific reason....planning on asking more money for him (possibly since she'd already locked in on the price for us $1250 with AKC registration papers), possibly he was sick.

Long story short, she let us take our Riley home (balance of payment cash only, please ) at 9 weeks of age (way to young!!!), he was dirty and didn't appear to have had the "spa day" she had promised. His blanket and toys were filthy dirty and covered in dead spiders and webs!!!! This grossed me out. My poor little guy living the whole time in her crummy cellar! I saw the warning signs, darn it. I should have listened to my head and not my heart. But we were overanxious and did not do our homework.

I have now learned so much about what a good breeder is and does for her/his puppies. Denise is not it! Yes, she bred my boy which Stephen confirmed for me (I showed him my boy's pedigree to look over for me) years ago when I first came across his website and saw his warning about Denise.

Don't get me wrong, I love my yorkie boy - he's very, very sweet, but he has issues. He has fear aggression around other dogs. He should have stayed with his mom and littermates until at least 12 weeks. It cost me a small fortune for private "safe dog" training so I could be able to bring him comfortably and calmly around other dogs. He has a grade 3 luxating patella in his back right leg. The left ACL tore when his left patella went out, it was that bad. Again, $2500 in orthopedic bills and lengthy recuperation. We are now hoping and praying the other leg won't require surgery.

Oh, and he came home to us with a nasty case of coccidia. He is also about 11 pounds. But he is beautiful and very sweet. Gives the best kisses. I wouldn't trade him for the world. But I would never, ever buy another dog from this lady. We just need to do our research. And we also need to keep spreading the word so that hopefully other people won't get burned by a pretty facade.

We also have another yorkie boy, Oliver who is 4 but he came from a reputable showbreeder in Michigan. And we flew to pick him up and bring him home. He is well adjusted and very healthy, thank goodness. He is Riley's best buddy. Someday soon we hope to add a little yorkie sister but we're being very picky!

Confused ..

I got my baby boy from Denise in Feb this year (he's 7 months old now), so far he's been a healthy puppy and the love of my life. But next week he is going under the knife to be neutered and also a second procedure to get one of his testicles that never dropped. That problem is called cryptorchidism (undescended testicles) and it is hereditary and can lead to cancer. So fortunately the surgery will be an easy fix and my little man will be fine after the surgery but somewhere in the background of "her breeding" she bred dogs with that problem. Something a true breeder would not continue to breed. I also read that it is the only disqualifying fault for all AKC breeds. I do not know if she is for all real or not but this is just something else to think about..

Lightbulb Also...

Also after reading a bunch of these posts and others on the internet I do not understand why it seems like she always have puppies available for people to come see. How do her dogs pop out litters so frequently. In the sake for my baby I hope she is for real, but after doing research it is getting hard to believe. Maybe she started off legit but got too caught up in the money.

OH MY...same story...over and over....I sure do hope all of our posted stories help others to stay away from this person.
I have right now 8 Yorkies. all purchased from breeders and not one onther came home with a nasty case of coccidia my little girl from Denise did.
How totally gross and neglectful. Totally sickening what these people do to these poor little doggies to make a dollar !!!
Thank you foir posting your story...the more the merrier.

She states "We are AKC and ACA registered. We are AKC inspected and approved." on her website, but in person she says the puppies are not registered and never did she have proof for any other visitors that their parents are registered. She can not prove exactly where the puppies came from I am really surprised no one has further investigated this and shut her down.

Far as I know Rebecca she is a broker and who knows where she gets these poor pups from.
Things may have changed by now and she could possibly also be breeding.

Thanks, I was wondering because the last time I spoke to her she said she didn't know what she had out there?? I thought it was strange because wouldn't you know specifics on the pups if you breed them in your home? On the other hand, if she's getting them from somewhere else wouldn't she know what she had come in? Struck me as strange...either way, I guess.

Is the pup in your avatar the one from her?

UGH...of course she would know if she were breeding the puppies. This woman is just too much with her stories !!

Yes, Smokie in my avatar is my littler girl from her.
And by the way I never did get the promised AKC papers from her.

Reading through this thread upsets me. I bought my baby from a friend at the time. He was a singleton and AKC and CKC parents. Well, one of his testicles didn't come down. I can see it and it has traveled lower but now down. I contacted my friend about it and told her it should have been disclosed when her female was bred. Someone somewhere along the line didn't tell her or she knew. She got upset with me saying all I wanted to do is breed him which is incorrect. I wasn't sure at the time and she did push 'are you going to nueter him'? I decided to breed him to start a bank account for him for any future large expenses. I thought for only a couple years, then have him nuetered. She became so mean and even said, if you couldn't afford to take care of him you shouldn't have gotten him. That is not the true case here. She and I aren't friends any longer, sad to say.

If anyone reads this since it is an older thread, does anyone know if a testicle can be surgically put in the scrotum? I guess the vet can tell me but not sure if I could trust the answer if she says no. She was awfully quick and adament about the neutering asap. I also have to have his four baby canine teeth pulled because they didn't fall out with the adult ones coming in.

Frankly, I do not approve of your plan or the breeding of your boy but as for the undescended testicle it would not hamper his ability to breed. I have a beautiful champion sired male who has an undescended tsticle that I have bred several times successfully,. (with my vets approval).

YES..undescended testicle is a disqualifying issue for AKC shows which is why my boy was not being shown. I was aware of all this from the reputable breeder when I bought him. His testicle is partially descended so the vet said he is not at risk of cancer from it and it is not hereditary.
He is 4 years old now and we have bred him without incident.

Unless she has finally legitimized her operation she had a bunch of unknown puppies who came from who knows where. Not registered or properly taken care of. When we were there she had a little boy puppy loose inher kitchen, who could barely stand up let alone walk and was also trying to sell him. Poor little thing.
It is not easy to shut down a backyard breeder or broker so the next best thing is to keep this information passing around the forums and hope that may people take these multiple warnings seriously and avoid her like the plague to save themselves a whole lot of grief and expense.
