Theo is almost back to his ole self...or should I say young self...I watch him play and in my heart I feel he is going to be just fine...a little more spoiled than before...if that is possible but definitely not sick...in fact the more and more I observe him I feel what my vet said to be true...he ate too much garbage over the past few months and developed an ulcer from all the bacteria or the texture of the things he was eating which caused the internal bleeding that led to the liver overdose...so we pray that his liver and internal organs get healthier and stronger and with a low protein diet he lives a long healthy life... If anyone knows recipes that are inexpensive to make I would love if you could share them with us. The few that my vet gave were just if not more expensive to make than the $31per a case of L/D Hills Science Diet... The recipes had tofu & dog vitamins in it and the weight was for a 22lb dog so I was totally confused...we decided to stick with the science diet until his one month bile acid test then decide how to go forward...Also if any of you have had or heard of similar stories please share them so we can get a better idea of what to look for in our little babies... I am sure most of you are like me and my family buying these lil guys because they are so small and adorable but not knowing too much about what is good for them and not so good. Also only being able to afford $1500 from a small breed specialty store rather than $3000 from a breeder. Another truth I faced was that we can't expect our vet to know every little detail about each breed and inform us although it would be nice...But hey I can't find an A grade physician for myself let alone one for my little furry ones...I went with my gut and liked this Vet who was recommended by many people on my bus and a few owned yorkies and still do believe in him but I am just a little skeptical in how the events unfolded, I now know that I have to educate myself in the Yorkie world as much as I can from the internet and use common sense when ever possible...Taking down those gates was probably the 1st biggest mistake I made along with raising them with my heart instead of mind... Giving in to their little cute faces when they wanted more and more chicken, turkey, nutra cal...So like all lessons in life we live and learn and move forward with Gods blessings...Life is good even if you have a $6000 vet bill to pay off at least I wasn't standing on the wing of a plane yesterday terrified! So may God bless all you Yorkie mommy and daddys with healthy little yorkies and the knowledge and credit line(LOL) to help them when they are sick... HAve a wonderful weekend...Cheryl

I raise show Yorkies first thing I would have told you is NO TABLE FOOD. NONE there little tummy can not take the spices or the richness of our food. Use a good well balance food Purina has some pedigree puppy with lamb and rice is good Lamb and rice are easy to digest. Just dont feed table food even if you thinks it is all natural to much protein. Sounds to me like he could have had pancritis which is cause from to rich of foods Good luck God bless you little guy

Hi, October 3rd, 2007 I lost my eight year old Yorkie that almost destroyed my life. I lost Emma to the tainted food out of China. We were feeding her the small Nutro packets of wet food. The moment we heard about it we took her in to be tested and yes her kidney values were high, we thought we had her under control and watched her non stop and had the Vet's monitoring her, things looked good and on the ninth month she took a turn, mind you we had her on medication and had her blood tested every other month and everything had returned to normal. We put her back in the hospital with fluids treatments to get her kidneys functioning again, we were then told to take her to this kidney specialist(whom I adored and respected highly) he told us that every case he had treated with the tainted food had ended with these results, as the melamine that was used, finally would crystallize their little kidneys. Food is so important and we all need to watch everything that goes in their mouths. I have to say that Nutro Foods was wonderful to us and paid all medical bills ($15,000) but nothing was ever done about my lost of Emma!!!!!!!! I really could care less but appreciated their help but the neglect of these dog food companies should have had some penalties for what they allowed to happen to all the innocent animals that trust us to give them safe food. I am so happy that you are on your way to being healthy but keep an eye on him because anything can result from bad things put into their tiny bodies. My Izzy is eight pounds and I feed her Wellness wet food with a sprinkle of baked organic chicken breast without any seasoning, she also has a fourth a cup of dry food out during the day for her to snack on. Thank God we have a healthy girl as I could never go through what you just went through again!! Keep us updated on his health. Hugs, Kathy

Theo never was on any wet food before this happen and it is so hard to know in advance if it was from the dry Nutro or Halo since the vets can't even agree on what was wrong with him. They tell me to keep him on Wet Science diet L/D but who knows if that is good...The next test is in a few weeks (liver bile acid) but no matter what the outcome I still worry everytime he seems down and I don't know if it is from his teeth, liver of medicine he has to take. His teeth are all doubled in the backand that looks really painful but the vet at the hospital said no that wouldn't give him pain and my vet shouldn't of said he could have 1/4 of a baby asprin which he only had maybe 10 different days spead out. She blamed the internal bleeding on that. Yet my vet says that wouldn't of caused ulcers and it was probably the wallpaper and wee wee mats he was eating...then I think my younger yorkie was eating that right along with him and he is okay. So I really don't know what to do...I just try my best to give them everything they are suppose to be getting and keep them in a safe area but the bottom line is no matter where I put them when they are alone for 10 hours a day they will manage to get into something. I understand how you feel about the money not helping forget the pain you went through losing you lil one because even getting back what we spent so far wouldn't erase all the worring I do over him everyday.

[Isn't it strange how everyone has a different opinion!!!! I guess they aren't God and it is hard to tell what each little Furr Ball gets into. I now take Izzy with me where ever I go but I am now semi retired and can have that luxury. I worry all the time too but I think of all the little dogs that are neglected or out there in this big world all alone and it gives me a better piece of mind. I hope things keep going well for you and Theo I sure enjoy talking with everyone and hope to hear from you again! Take Care, Kathy

| I would definitely puppy proof the house, so that he/they are in a safe environment. If that is not possible, how about an x-pen to keep them confined? I would also ask the vets for copies of all the test results...post those results here. Also, I think the aspirin may very well have caused the bleeding...even though it was a small amount. I'd want to be sure whether the abnormal test results are liver, kidney or pancreas related. Hope and pray the next test results come back much better. Too much protein, too much fat...too much indigestible objects...hard to say. Hope there is no permanent damage and he keeps getting better each and every day.

Yesterday Theo seem to have a bit of a relapse...he didn't run around too much on Sunday as he normally does didn't eat much and a few times was gagging like he was going to throw up but nothing came out...then when I got home from work yesterday he didn't get off the sofa to greet me with his usual barking... and he seemed very warm...so of to the vet we ran and once again they took his blood and put him back on another antibiotic but this time cefa drops which the vet on call (not my usual vet) said was much stronger than amoxicillin that he was on for a month and just came off of on Friday...So now he has diarrhea and a fever of 103.8 and I am working from home to keep an eye on him. Maybe after this $300 blood work they can tell me more and I am going to request all his blood work and results from the test he was given is sent to a specialist...This is so diarrhea not knowing what the heck is going on and having to keep charging all these test on my credit card which I have no clue how we are going to pay them off...So we will just keep praying for a miracle and a really big sale at work t pay this all off one day...

Sometimes it is worth it to take the plunge and see a specialist. After I took Emma in, even though I did not like what he was telling me, he told me exactly what was wrong with Emma, what was the future, and what we could do to keep her comfortable. Those guys know what they are talking about and have all the updated equipment. I love my Vet and she took us as far as she could, she then made the recommendation to take Emma to the specialist and I found out what a specialist was all about!!!!! Something is wrong if it continues to be an issue!!!!! Kathy

I just spoke with the vet (another associate that has never seen Theo) and she said his white blood count was high which means there is some sort of infection but where they don't know...his liver count was high also which again seems like a liver shunt but still no determination of what he has has been made..I have an appointment to visit with his vet tomorrow night and go over everything. I told his associate that I would like to take him to a specialist after sending them all his test results...but she said first go over everything with Dr. Kessler and he wont charge you for the office visit...I just had to laugh at that. Hell they just charged me over 300 last night for a visit that lasted 20 minutes...they took his temperature, blood then gave him a injection of antibiotics and that was it...I am starting to wonder where the love of these little guys comes in...I told them flat out we are just about at our max on our credit card and there is no other means of income to support this situation. Gosh 30 years ago I had a dobbie that had to undergo surgery because he swallowed the cats toy and it was like $900... they let me pay it off in payments ...but now these places want money up front or they won't treat your lil ones...Pretty cold if you ask me... I am still in shock over the prices for all this blood work, it is absolutely unbelievable... I am seriously thinking of going back to college nights an work towards a vet. degree. heck a lady was 57 years old who was in my brothers chiropractor class and she had top honors...so it is never too late...I can't imagine my life with out these little guys and I can only pray he gets well and his little brother Charlie doesn't encounter the same things... When I know more I will post it but until then we are in the dark...

| I just had a thought as I was reading through all of this. You said you had given him treats with peanut butter in them. There is a HUGE recall on PB right now. If I were in your shoes... I would be having those treats checked immediately!!

I am so sorry that you are having to go through all this again and I can certainly understand. I think you should meet with Dr. Kessler, heck if he is not going to charge you, let him know your feelings, tell him where you are at with all your expenses and see if they have a heart!!!!!!!!!! I just realized where you live and know it is extra expensive in the NY area. I hope they find it to be some sort of infection and hopefully the new med's might due the trick, I sure hope so and I can't wait to hear what they tell you. I hope I have not become to aggressive on your issue but it brings back memories of my Emma and I am compassionate for Theo, you and your family. I was so alone when I was going through my bad times with Emma and it sure would have been nice if I would have known about YT! I hope to hear some good news soon. Kathy
