| Sorry to hear he's feeling down again. Yes, keep the appointment, hear the vet out...see what his thoughts are. Get copies for yourself, of ALL the test run so far. Exactly what part of the liver function was abnormal...it could still be pancreatitis. Poor baby...poor you, I'm sorry this is happening, I do hope you come to a conclusion, and that whatever it may be is treatable and has no long lasting effects. Theo has my thoughts and prayers...I wish him well!!!

| I just came across your thread and wanted to tell you that I'm praying for you and Theo. Theo is one tough little guy, hopefully Dr. Kessler can tell you something tomorrow. If only our little ones could talk and tell us how they're feeling. I know you must be worried and this has been going on for awhile..... Just try to be strong for little Theo and give herself and Theo a hug from all of us.... Know we are all praying and sending sincere thoughts your way to lift you and Theo up to give you strength. Just remember, he is a tough little guy and he'll do everything he can to get well just so he can be with you.

| It figures today we would get a snow storm when I want to be able to get home early..but at least my daughter was able to take off from work and stay with him...We are all taking turns since we don't know how many days we will each need to take off from work...I just hope Dr Kessler doesn't cancel his appointments due to this weather...You know how it goes when it rains it pours...My boss is not an animal person so if I ever said I need to work from home due to my sick puppy he would not give it to me so I am forced into telling little white lies like my hot water tank went out last night and the repair man can't get to me until noon and so on...But any how Theo's tempurature seems t have gone down a bit and he is eating again...the stool is back to nornal so the antibiotic must be working but still we are totally lost at what could be keeping his white blood cell count so high that amoxicillin couldn't kill in a month that he was on it??? As far as my vet giving me a break that wont happen I already asked and I was told by his receptionist(who I think is his mother) that runs the front desk that they don't even accept payment plans. So tonight we will have a long talk and point blank I have to tell him that if we can't make some sort of arrangement I will need to look for another vet who will...and plenty do since I have so many dog loving friends who have been through expensive ventures with their lil furry ones too...The only reason they are not charging us tonight is because it is only a consultation and for that he never charges since he won't be doing anything to or with Theo...I was recommended to this vet by a few people ion my comute bus who have teacup yorkies and they all said he was wonderful and personality wise he is...they all seem to be in a better place financially than myself as a single mom with two daughters going through college and a father who does not contribute towards it...big mistake I made 15 years ago when we divorced ...I thought it was automatic that fathers had to contribute to their childrens college not that if it wasn't in my divorce they don't get it...so they work when they don't have classes and both girls contribute to the bills and for that I am blessed... I just feel animals should be treated like humans when we lose our jobs and don't have money you are can get Health Care Plus free and pay $0 for doctor visits, prescriptions and so on...THis is a fact since when I was hurt in a car accident years ago and couldn't work both my girls and I were cover 100% Plus at some point I feel that this man should say hey she already spent a fortune since she got the puppy in my office let me cut her some slack...but I guess people do get greedy which is a shame... And if I have to wait tables on the week-end I will to pay these bills... I am even thinking of seeing if a lawyer wants to go after the breeder and store where we purchased him since they said they come with a one year warranty against birth defects... Every vet who attended to Theo in Garden State Hospital for the week he was there said that Liver Shunts are inherited and once a dog has one they should never be allowed to breed...But until all of this is confirmed we will have to wait and see...I am thinking we will go to Pennsylvania where a hospital has the capability to inject dye into his blood and see if there is a shunt through there special diagnostic equipment... Can't even imagine what that will cost but at least we will know for certain it will be worth it... I hopefully will know more tonight and can make clearer choices...On a positive note he is eating and playing a bit so it seems the antibiotic has kicked in...I will keep you all posted on tonights visit...thanks again it helps so much to talk with people who share the same love as I do for these little cute babies... |

| Actually Melissa my family would laugh at me if I ever asked for a loan to pay for my puppy bills ...none of them are animal lovers as my daughters and I are and when I got the little guys they all warned me how we couldn't afford this...My youngest daughter actually got the first little guy with her school scholarship money that was left over after paying for her tuition...she needed something to love and keep her company when she was away at school...of coarse it broke my heart when they went back to florida after the winter break...I cried at the airport saying goodbye to both of them...then she decided to transfer to NYIT here in Manhattan so I was thrilled...so thrilled that I bought another for my oldest daughter who was graduating with my tax refund this way little Theo had a brother to play with when we all went off to work and school all day... My older daughter told me when we took Theo off to the vet the other night that he sat on the stairs crying until we got back...poor little guy must of though his brother wouldn't come home for a week again... I keep reminding myself God never gives you more than you can handle...and you never know a miracle can happen. We are prepared to do what ever it takes I already sold a few possessions that had value on craigslist and will keep doing so if need be. I rather have a little healthy bouncy puppy than a diamonds or furs... Beside I only wore those things when my life was empty before I had my beautiful daughters and bouncy little puppies...I think life throws you curve balls to teach you lessons that other wise you may of never learned. Just seeing how many wonderful caring people are out there praying for us is heart warming...my daughters log in an read all this and find it hard to believe that there are wonderful caring people that you may never meet who care enough to stop and write something and most importantly pray for us...I think I need to try to get back to work here and focus since my mind keeps wandering off on what tonight will bring...I will let you all know and as always thank you for keeping us in your prayers...Cheryl |

| I haven't been able to sleep this evening, so thought I would stop by and check on you and Theo. You sounded so much better in your posts yesterday afternoon and I hope you are. My heart just broke for the little guy who was crying when you left for the appointment with Theo. That's Charlie, right? He probably doesn't know what to think right now with everything going on. Just give him a big hug from all of us at YT and tell him the power of prayer is behind little Theo through all of this so they will have many days of romping around chasing tails and toys, eating treats and napping in sunshine through the windows in springtime. Keep your positive thoughts up and I'll check in tomorrow and see things are going.

| Good Morning my yorkie friends...So here is what Dr. Kessler told us last night...First off Theo's temperature went down to 102 from the 104 on Monday so his body if fighting off the infection...He can't be certain what that infection is or where it is coming from and it may very well be the exact same infection that began this whole ordeal... the blood work does show that both his mature white blood cell count and the baby white blood cell count were extremely high which means it is a BIG infection. His liver count was okay unlike what the associate told me yesterday but there are still signs that there MAY be a liver shunt...He strongly suggested we do the bile acid test no later than next Saturday since if it is the liver waiting will only allow more organ damage to occur. He said ideally they like to do this test when they are off all medication and stronger but in this case he is not getting well fast enough to do that...so he feels doing the test ASAP is the way to go. Then depending on the results the next step needs to be made very soon...which is one of a few choices...if the liver test points to a liver shunt then either we travel to PA and get the ink injection which he says is about $500 he believes or try another ultra sound and hope that we can see the liver this time or do exploratory surgery or last a biopsy of the liver which is not always conclusive if they don't get a piece of the liver that is damaged. Mind you if it is not one main liver shunt and several little ones there is no procedure to correct it and he would need to remain on medicine and Science Diet L/D for the rest of his life which most likely will not be the normal life span of a Yorkie. Now on a very positive note he feels Theo is a very strong little fighter and very cute he added several times. He said that thae fact alone that he survived the first week this all happened was a miracle in itself that most little guys with stats that low generally don't make it through the night. He also wants us to keep optimistic that this is ONLY a bad infection and now that he is on a much stronger antibiotic it may kill it and he will recover 100% with no liver problems. So needless to say the power of all your prayers is still needed and very very much appreciated. I must say God is the true decider of all and what ever his decisions are we will never question or judge them. I did many years ago when he took my husband away to be with him and we were only 26 but soon after I came to understand why and I will not make that mistake again ever. So let me end with Praise be to God our father almighty Amen. |
