| Gracie Spay/Momma MRI- Stressed! I just needed to post to feel like I am not alone, as I know I am not! I just scheduled Gracie for her spay, microchip and removal of any retained baby teeth. This will take place on Wednesday 12/20. She will stay the night. There is no one there at the vet at night. The staff are there until 10 pm and will give her a dose of pain meds before they leave, and then they return and give her another dose first thing in the morning. They tell me she is to stay overnight so that she will remain quiet and rest. I know I said in other posts that I would not leave my baby alone there; I guess it is different now that I am talking about my Gracie! My mind may change before the day comes! 12/20 is also the day I get my MRI results and learn if I will need surgery or not. Why everything has to hit so close to the holidays is beyond me! Please send positive thoughts our way!

| I was just reading in New york dog magazine (petsmart sells them) on page 120 about a dog named junebug Dynnis. Her picture is simply adorable, not to discourage you, but she died after a routine spay. Other yorkie owners say to make sure the vet has experience spaying/neuturing small breed dogs. Another yorkie talk member was saying her vet called the next day saying her yorkie suffered a seizure overnight after a c-section. She said if they were going to leave her by herself, she could've just taken her home and watched her. You should get some good helpful responses here.

| Why do you have to leave her overnight? I had Bailey spayed, microchipped, teeth removal and she also had a small cyst removed. Alot done yes, but I only wanted her to go under anethesia once. She was only 3 lbs when I had this done, I brought her in first thing in the morning and picked her up late afternoon. I would never have been able to sleep, worrying about her all night. I brought her bed with me to the vets, wrapped her lightly in her blanket and put her in her bed, she stayed there most of that night getting up to drink some water and getting some pain medicine and crawling back in her bed. I had to change her blankets and bedding a few time because she did have a few accidents, she was back to her normal self about 2 days later. If this is a vet you use and trust it will be fine, if this is one you just started using maybe get a second opinion? I am from the Pacific Northwest and there are alot of great vets in the area. Good Luck with your upcoming procedure, I'll send prayers and good thoughts your way. Michele & Bailey |

| I would NOT leave her overnight if no one will be there to supervise her. What if she got sick or went into distress?? At least if she is home, you will watch her like a hawk and at the first sign of trouble, rush her to the emergency vet.

| Please, don't leave her overnight. So many things may happen and there is nobody there to help her. At home, you'll watch over her and she'll be much better staying with you.

This is a vet that I have used for years and trust very much. This is really tugging at my heart strings. My vet specifically said not to spay Gracie until she is between 6 and 7 months, to maximize the safety of the procedure. I do trust her. I had all my female cats spayed, left them overnight and all was fine. If something happens to Gracie, I will never forgive myself, whether it be because she was left at the vet or because I insisted on taking her home with me.

Bailey was 7 mo when she was spayed. I would do what makes you the most comfortable, having an unsupervised dog would not make me comfortable. Bailey did cry during the night and I just soothed her until she went back to sleep. I had her on the floor next to my bed instead of in it. Michele & Bailey | |
