and cause my website name says tinytots what is that ??? you were making a point that i only breed 2 lbs dogs not so i dont breed females under 5 lbs !!!
We will try this again. My point was NOT that you just breed 2lb. dogs. My point was that you breed to get "tiny" meaning below the standard of 4lbs. You also seemed thrilled with a 2lb. dog. Breeders are starting to use the word tiny because they are aware that the word tea cup sends a negative message. You confirmed that you try to get dogs that are tiny. Doesn't matter and I don't care. My point was that when someone on this board mentions the tea cup people go nuts. It doesn't matter what you call it, breeding to have small dogs is breeding to have small dogs. I am not judging it, I am stating a fact. My first post was asking why people aren't upset by this? I am not upset by it. I really tried to find a tiny dog from a legitimate breeder. And the posters here, the YTCA and the AKC go nuts over that. So, is it okay to breed for tiny or not? THAT was my original question. Glad to hear you treat your dogs well and you don't breed smaller females. Peace

I'm confused. I feed Bella hard food only because I was told that canned food has too many preservatives and their stomachs are too sensitive and cannot handle it AND because it's bad for their teeth. Was I misinformed? Should she be on can foods in addition to or in lieu of hard foods? It is not my intent to keep her tiny, it is my intent to keep her healthy. Oh, Bella does get her teeth brushed too.

So, is it okay to breed for tiny or not? THAT was my original question. Glad to hear you treat your dogs well and you don't breed smaller females. Peace
Shelby'sMom~You will get a lot of different answers to your question depending on who you ask. I am not a breeder and my experience is limited having only owned yorkies for 8 months or so...but, that said, I think science would allow that breeding a species in whatever size they happen to come in would be okay as long as you breed out the genetic defects. I have talked to many breeders who breed for small yorkies and they have been doing it for several decades or longer and have been able to keep the mortality rate low. These breeders are phenomenal and know more than the average vet about the health and vitality of these tinies and how to make sure they stay healthy. I have purchased 4 yorkies who are all currently under the breed standard in weight. None are unhealthy or have any more problems than the average yorkie and this is what my experience has been. This is not to say that an unscrupulous breeder who is breeding just to breed as many small yorkies as he can to make as much money as he can without regard to the health of the breeding dogs or the puppies produced, is not having a different experience but I think it would be the same if he was breeding larger yorkies unless he is breeding small females which is unconscionable in my opinion. In other words a bad breeder will have bad experiences regardless of the size. There are some who would argue and have stories of small 3 lb females bred to 2 lb males who free whelped lots of litters and think it is perfectly okay. I do not agree with this but I am just telling you what different opinions there are out there. If you make an analogy to humans, is it like a 6'6" man and a 5' woman having a child? I don't know? Food for thought.

I cannot believe that a pet owner would fail to feed a proper diet to keep their yorkie at a certain unhealthy weight. I can see where a bad breeder would because the puppy will be weighed...but a pet owner could just lie about the weight if it was an ego thing to have a small yorkie. I don't see that on this board or with anyone in my meet up group. I just got a question about Ava's weight and I think people are curious but I think a yorkie's size is determined more by structure (height and length) rather than weight and I have posed this query several times on here. Ava is small in structure but is stocky and kind of chunky so she weighs more than she looks like she does.

Peace
Well all i can say is the reason i started breeding is cause i love the yorkies and for yrs wanted one but my kids were to small and i would never have had one back then so now they are all grown and are men now so i went out to buy a yorkie and i just loved her soo and i meet a very good breeder who helped me to breed she has been breeding for over 20 yrs a mentor so to speak well i made a promise i would breed the dogs as to the standard i would like to buy and the looks i would buy and my opionion and mine only is the 3-4 lbs are the greatest size for apts and pets can take them anywhere not to big not to small the reason i was telling kim about my little fella was cause he is so tiny and belive me its not easy to make sure they are ok so as a breeder i rather anyday to breed the bigger yorkies that dont need lots of hrs of care its very hard so thats my story i dont breed what i wouldnt want myself and i made sure of it health wise and size wise and i get lots of calls everyday people saying i dont want any bigger than 4 lbs and prefer 3 or less thats my experience as a breeder the tinier the better for most people i talk with and the ones with kids i do not sell to unless the dog will be 5 lbs

| I think that you have some of the loveliest yorkies I have ever seen. Want a girl, but was not ready to start looking, and financially was not quite ready, however, could you pm me with some prices please. I absolutely love all your babies. I think that my two fixed boys would love her too. Thanks |
