| Kramer I'm still trying to do something about that. I'm working with my homeowners association and their attorney to see if they can put some pressure on Animal Control. I'm also going to take the owners to small claims court as I have read that their insurance company will then raise or at least monitor their policy to have a vicious dog on the property. It's worth a try. It's the least I can do for sweet little Kramer. Sorry my picture didn't show up. I guess it's to big. I'll have to have my husband help me with it. |

| If I were you I would present the dog's owners with a total cost of the medical bills and an estimate for a new yorkie puppy. Give them a chance to make it right at least financially. They probably do feel terrible and may just pay it. If you get no satisfaction from them then take them to small claims court. By giving you a check already they have acknowledged that they are responsible. I would not cash their check yet. Keep it as evidence for court. Or at least make a copy of it. Even though your dog was 8 1/2 years old he should still have a replacement value (courts see pets as property unfortunately and will only place a value of them for replacement costs no matter how much we love them) If you win in court use the money to build that fence so when the time is right you will be able to get another little yorkie to love.

| At least I got compensation from the dog owner I just wanted to thank you all again for your support and let you know how things came out with the loss of my Kramer. I was hoping that Animal Control would require the vicious dog to be put to sleep but they only gave the owners a warning. I decided to write a letter to the owners to see if we could reach some agreement out of court. I asked the owners for $1,000 compensation for Kramer and the $335 for the medical bill that was incurred on the night of the attack. I just received a letter from them last night along with a check for $1,000. It's not as much as I had requested, but I feel like I can put it behind me now and will not have to take them to small claims court. I wanted the owners to take some responsibility for the pain they have caused my family and my sweet baby Kramer. I know that the owners feel awful about the attack and I am pretty sure that they will keep their mean dog locked up. I hope the dog never hurts anyone else. The owners wrote that they were upset that the story about the attack had gotten around the neighborhood. Did they expect it to be kept a secret? There were 2 adult witnesses along with 2 children that saw the attack happen. I didn't go out of my way to spread the word but told anyone who asked where Kramer was. Almost everyone in the neighborhood knew Kramer because I walked him 3 times a day everyday. I have been looking at yorkie puppies but am not quite ready yet. Maybe someday soon. I still have nightmares about the attack and how Kramer cried afterwards but I know he is at peace now. I put together a photo album of all my pictures of Kramer and gathered my scattered video of him onto one tape. That seemed to help but makes me cry everytime I watch it. You were the best Kramer. Love you forever, Mommy |

| I'm glad to hear they gave you what they did. Even though no amount would ever be enough, at least they are admitting their part in it, by doing that. I'm so sorry for you loss and pain, It must be so hard.

| My heart goes out to you and your family. I know how you feel, I saw my baby in the jaws of coyote a few months back. But please know that my baby Koda needed a mentor in Kramer, as they are both running around in heaven awaiting the magnificent reunion with us! Be hopeful and not only embrace the memories you had with Kramer but put to practice what he taught you Brett |

| Kramer's Picture Thank you so much for posting his picture for me. I wish he would have been looking at the camara in this picture but it still shows how beautiful he was. I have tons of pictures of him but most of them were before we got the digital camara. Thank you again. I'll have to take the time someday to figure out how to post a picture. |

| For Koda's Owner I also read about Koda when I first found this site after Kramer's death and feel awful for you. I hope the pain is less now. It does seem to get a little easier with time. I still have bad times but am trying to remember Kramer in his happy times. Will you get a new companion? You sound like such a loving owner and someone who gives a lot of yourself to your pet. Best of luck, Terri |

| Terri, Oh my! I just read this thread...It's so hard to read things like this, but I got the courage up...I am so sorry for the loss of your little Kramer. It sounds like he was a very loved little guy, and he will be missed very, very much. What a tragedy....That lab shouldn't have been out on a walk if it was vicious like that...Only time can help heal the pain of losing your Kramer...My deepest condolences to you and Maddie and your family...

| :unlove: My heart is broken for you. You and your family our in my prayers. Please know you did the right thing speaking with other neighbors. Any one, those with small children, pets or unable to fend off a violent animal, needs to be aware that they live in the vicinity of such a dog. I'm sure the dog's owner feels bad now, but that feeling does not replace responsible dog ownership. I can't believe that animal control has a contact deadline - that seems so wrong. Do they operate through your police department? I would think if the police dept. was somehow involved, there could not be a deadline to report a violent crime. Hugs for you. Yorkiesmiles |
