My heart is broken for you. You and your family our in my prayers. Please know you did the right thing speaking with other neighbors. Any one, those with small children, pets or unable to fend off a violent animal, needs to be aware that they live in the vicinity of such a dog. I'm sure the dog's owner feels bad now, but that feeling does not replace responsible dog ownership. I can't believe that animal control has a contact deadline - that seems so wrong. Do they operate through your police department? I would think if the police dept. was somehow involved, there could not be a deadline to report a violent crime.
