| Questions About Housetraining & Eating Poop Last night was our first night with Logan. He did pretty well and didn'tcry too much except when I woke him up for a potty break at 1:30 a.m. and put him back in his crate. He wanted to play rather than pee! He doesn't seem to pee very much although he's drinking water. Questions: He is so tiny that the grass nearly swallows him up. Plus, the grass was wet last night and he was shivering and soaking wet. Has anyone else had to deal with this? I tried using newspaper in the house, but he wonders from it and won't pee. I keep putting him back on the paper and telling him "go potty," but he won't. So I tried a puppy litter box, but he tries to eat the litter and his poop. The reason there was poop in the box is because just as he started to go in the house, we whisked him to the litter box where he finished his business. Any suggestions? Our last dog was super easy to housetrain outside on the grass, but Logan is proving to be a different story |

| Can you cut the grass a little shorter for him? As he gets bigger you'll just have to deal with wet feet. Sammy is really short but she still does fine in the grass. He is not going to be housetrained in 1 night. It will take several months. Make sure you bring treats outside with you and make a big deal about him going in the grass. He needs to learn why he is in the grass in the first place Don't try to confuse him with puppy litter and pee pads and everything else. Just reward him for going in the grass and keep an eye on him when you are in the house! You are doing great if you already caught him pooping and took him to the right spot, wherever you decide that is. You'll need to crate him when you can't watch him, like when you are in the shower or cooking dinner. Expect accidents until his body can learn to hold it (which he can't do right now). Good luck!

Exactly several and many months, and even so there will still be accidents on occasion. My puppy is nearly fully trainer but on occasion like yesterday he would wee without letting us know he wants out. Could have been the shots he got and was feeling bad. But it will take time. I didnt crate mine, I gave him a nice room filled with comfy things and toys, a wee pad and paper and he learned there, then took off the paper bit by bit along with taking him outside as well, and he soon stopped going on the wee pad, its still in his room a nd he can care less, he stands now at the door and watches me or my hubby to let us know he wants out. Cold wet tall grass at 1:am and a wee baby poor thing | |

| I think you will have more success sticking to one place, because he must be so confused going from pads, to litter to grass ???? Rememner everything in this big world is new and he just need of time to catch on. Please remember to be patient, and give lots of hugs and kisses when he does his buisness in the right spot. Hope this helps. Good Luck. |

| If he's going to stay little, you might prefer the potty pads. My Gracie (9lbs) was trained outside and loves going outside. My Sugar (3lbs) has always hated the grass and I worry about hawks so he uses potty pads. I put one in a litter box and it works great. I agree though, pick one place and stick to it. As far as the poop eating goes, they usually outgrow that. You can also sprinkle meat tenderizer on his food and that usually stops it in a few weeks. Good luck!

YT 2000 Club Member | I am trying to kill time waiting for my Jeter to be 12 weeks(he's 2 weeks ) so iI have ben reading all sorts of books..again, anyway's I just read about this yesterday in THE DOG BIBLE pages 146-147. this is what it said about the subject. Their is several things you can do to stop your pup from eating his pooh, Adolph's meat tenderizer or Accent or a product called FOR_BID that is sold by vets, can be put on his food and will make his feces taste really bad that he will not want to try it. The products can take up to 3 day's to start to work. Also you can put pineapple or Zucchini in the food for a natural way to make his pooh unappetizing. My parents had a dog a long time ago that did this and they got the stuff from the vet and it worked out for them. Potty trining takes a while to master. You should try one method and stick with it, your puppy could become confused. It's your choice on wich one to try, just be consistent and your puppy will get the hang of it. Remember to reword Logan when he goes and do not scold when he makes a mistake. Good luck with your new little guy... I love his name by the way! |
