| First time in YT and having potty issues Hello everybody! This is my first time in Yorkietalk, I have a beautiful girl named Cookie. I've been having issues potty training her. Does anybody have any good tips on this? I was told that cage training helps, but my heart brakes just thinking about leaving her in "jail" while I'm out to work. Any suggestions anybody? Please help!!

| How old is she. I crate Winstin when I am gone and he likes it. They do not like to potty in their beds and they do not mind crates. My dogs have all liked the den type areas. Plus they can feel safe and secure. If your pup has run of the place that can be a big problem. I was told bladder control does not even start til 16 weeks (if I was told correctly that is) Welcome to YT, you will love it here.

| if you don't want to crate train her (since being 5 she might not take to it well!!) can you gate her in the kitchen or soemthing and put down pee pads in the kitchen with her?? Layla has never been pee pad trained but i hear they are made to make dogs want to go on them.... this way she can still move around and play and eat and drink... but your carpet will be saved! |

| I crate trained Kalina and at six months I think she's 99% trained. She goes to the door now and looks at me. Don't feel that they hate the crate or that it's mean. As long as you aren't leaving them in there too long it's fine. They feel secure in the crate. Kalina still goes in there on her own, to eat, and when I go out. I never have to worry that she'll have an accident in the house or chew on something bad or swallow something when I leave her in the crate. It's a relief for me as well as her. When she is out of the crate you really have to watch her like a hawk until she is totally trained. Don't let her out of your sight. Some people keep them on a leash attached to their belt until they have the problem under control. Good luck.

but for some reason she only does pipi on the pads, she probably thinks is not good to do pupu on them as well. LOL I don't know! But thank you all for your comments, they make me feel a lot better about trying the crate! *hugs*

| I kept Teddi in a play pen for babies until she was 4 months and then I moved her into the kitchen and I keep her gated in there. I think she likes it because she has her bed in one corner, her food near her bed and then the pads toward the end of the kitchen. She is 1year old today actually and she still stays in there when I am gone to work. Good luck!

| Hi! Cookie may just love a crate (as marcerella02 said, since she's older and not used to it, you'll have to see). All my puppies have been crated when we're not home and crate trained. Coby LOVES his crate. It's like a kid's bedroom - his special place. When I get my keys out, he checks to see if I'm getting my puppy purse. If not, he knows he's not going, and he runs into his crate and waits for his treat. (Give Cookie a treat every time she goes in her crate - it helps). Good luck and keep us posted!!

| I crate my littlest and she loves it. It's like a secure place for her to be. Best wishes with the training.

| [F]Than you all so much for your comments! I will try to put fences in my kitchen since it's cheaper I will try putting a couple of pads, like s13silviagirl said. It might work. I asked a lady at the supermarket that was buying some stuff for her doggie and she said she has 5 yorkies, she is a breeder, and she suggested as soon as I giver her, her food to take her out to the back yard and stay with her until she does it, she said it might take a while at first but then she will get used to it and pup as soon as she eats! I hope it works, this morning when I woke up I saw she had pupped by the front door again and I had to reprimand her, it brakes my heart but she has to understand she can not do that there!. She is so smart though, as soon as I took her near the "surprise" and put her down to she could smell it and know why I was mad at her, she started shaking and giving me kisses!. Too much! I don't like spanking her, I was told to grave a news paper and hit the floor hard. Hopefully it works, I was told by another friend of mine that she did that just 2 times with her dog and that was the end of it. Let's see, I will let you guys know! Thank you again for all your comments![/FONT]
