breeding....show quality....?

I also want to add that show breeders get a bad rep for being harsh and mean and it may be true in some cases but i have really seen a change here on YT and there have been a lot of show breeders and breeders in genreal trying to help educate people and for that i think it makes you all great and a knotch above the rest so thank you all... I have learned a lot on this thread as well as others i love the aspect of showing i think it is amazing to see all these beautiful dogs!

Donna,

I like you prefer the showing over the breeding....Whelping a litter is not my favorite thing to do, I just hate the possibility of something going wrong.

Since showing I've learned more about the breed, than having my nose in a book studying and attending classes........The standard only explains so much, it doesn't explain, correct lay back, correct gait, single tracking, correct undercarriage, rear angulation......how to spot a yorkie that is to close in the rear, or wide in the front......

You know to be honest here, I have to bite my tongue alot and remember that some you just can't educate but I love seeing those that want to learn learn. The post I entered just before this one was nice about hobby breeders but in reality and this is just me I would prefer if you breed showing and knowing the breed standard and breeding to better the breed goes together.

If I could just wiggle my nose for a show puppy that's what I'd do LOL. Whelping is not my fav either and showing does so much more in knowing what is wrong and right with a dog!

I agree with you Amber. I like the way Mardelin educates without talking down to people or preaching to them. She explains what her experience has been and how she does it and leaves it up to you whether you decide to learn from it or not. I have learned alot from her and respect what she has to say for that reason.

I think I just stated why I believe people get defensive. Also, I never backtracked what I said. You sure do like to twist and interpret words a lot don't you? All I did was further explain exactly what I meant because some people weren't getting it.

Is there much purpose in showing without breeding? I'm just wondering because showing does fascinate me and I am interested in it, but I'm not so much interested in breeding. I mean puppies are cute and fun, but they're so much work and finding the right homes with people you trust can probably be a nightmare at times. I know showing and breeding normally go hand in hand because you're breeding for your next show dog and showing to make sure it's the best and then breeding for more great dogs. I've just always thought it would be fun to have one or two dogs to show, but I just don't really want to breed

In my opinion this is just the type of crap that turns educational threads into heated arguements. There was no need to post this. Lets try and keep it educational and like Sugars mom stated, you have a lot of good information to share but crap like this just makes what you say fall on deaf ears after awhile.

Wouldn't that be grand What I love about you Brooklynn is the way you handle the shows. You don't blame others or judges for your loss when it is a loss but what was your saying " Just another day at an akc show"

Im not trying to be rude but i really dont get it... I would really like to hear how the breeders (that believe you should only breed show quality yorkies) got into breeding/showing... I mean, like someone else said... its really like you are in between a rock and a hard place.... I dunno... like i said, i would really like to hear how the people that only breed show quality got into it all in the first place.

You have to first start going to shows, and start talking to the show breeders. Then, if you find one that seems especially receptive and responsive to your questions, ask if he/she will mentor you. You might be able to co-own a dog sometime down the road if they see that you really are serious and into it, rather than just trying to get your hands on a good dog to breed.

OK, here's the thing......I love showing, it's a passion. But, in order to get show dogs you have to breed, that is unless you have unlimited funds to keep on buying those show dogs. And then there is those very strict contracts that go along with each show dog. Then there is that bit of ego that comes into play when you breed your first home bred Champion. Believe me there is nothing like that feeling you get when you begin winning from the Bred By Exhibitor Class.

Nothing you can do about it LOL...just another day at the dog show! All the complaining will fall on deaf ears anyway and it's over and done with! I know my dog is the one I want to take home with me anyway! LOL Not to say I don't get pissed at the shows but ka sa ra sa ra LOL
