| Boy vs Girl--I want to know the good, the bad, & the ugly truth I currently have a deposit on a boy puppy, but my breeder also has a girl puppy available. Lately, I have been seeing numerous people discussing the whole marking issue with the boys. I know not every puppy is the same but I would love some input on the differences you have seen with the boy yorkies vs the girl yorkies. I think part of me wants a girl just for the clothes!! LOL! Please help me figure this out, I am driving myself crazy. |

| Hi Erin, maybe you could go see the two puppies and see which one comes to you or which one captivates you more ? Anyway, I have a male, and he is so wonderful and loving, I wouldn't change him for the world! He follows me and my husband everywhere we go, and he cuddles with us while we're watching TV, but he can also play until he wears us out! If you neuter him early enough (at about 6 months), he won't start marking. Actually, my yorkie didn't get neutered until he was almost 14 months old and he never marked inside the house at all. He did mark outside and if we took him somewhere that there were other males. Girls aren't the only ones you can dress up. They've got the cutest boy clothes out there too and even bows! I think it's all a matter of preference some say boys are better, some say girls are better, but honestly it's really about the yorkie that YOU fall in love with. Go see the two of them. See what happens... Yorkieluv |

| I have 2 females and 1 male. The all have such different personalities, it would be hard to pick. When I picked out mine there was both male and female and I just picked the puppy that just touched my heart. You can't go wrong with either, once they get a piece of your heart you will be hooked. Maybe get both ha!

| I have both, but my male was my first. He is the most loving sweetest little guy in the world! He just adores me and the feeling is mutual! I have a little girl now and she is MUCH more independent, only a lap dog when she decides. I have no marking issues at all with Tino. He uses potty pads in the house and he squats. He's never listed and he;s never marked. He humps his one duck and thats it. He was neutered and nothing changed... still never lifts that leg and still goes on the pads with no problem. If he's going to be the only dog in the house then he wouldnt really have reason to make since thats a sign of dominance. I say get the boy baby himn for a year and then a little girl! Its worked out like a dream for me! Good luck!

| I've had males and females of several breeds and cross breeds and it's quite easy to prevent marking but not so easy to stop it. If you neuter before they start you have the problem cured. Generally I would say Yorkies are one of the hardest dogs to housetrain in my experience ! And that includes both sexes. |

| I've heard that marking issues can be really bad if you have two males together or if you use your male for breeding. I had Tino neutered at 8 months and like I said he was the only child throughout all of that time and he hever lifted his leg before or after the surgery or marked. I didnt get my female until Tino was 10 months. Both of mine were trained on potty pads within a week. I used the Puppy Housebreadking Aid drops mae by Four Paws and they worked like a charm! Both always knew where to go and that is the only place they go. You just can't give them free roam on the house until they are completely potty trained.

| I guess every dog has his /her own personality. My boy is the sweetest, wildest boy; My girl is the loving, quiet one. Bronx pees three drops by anything you leave on the floor (kids ) When Zowie has an 'accident' it is like a flood, rivers and all through the grout. She potty trained pretty easily, but she has babies and doesn't feel she has to go outside if she doesn't want to. Maybe I've been a little lax in discipline after all she's got going on. I love them both, but I do like dressing Zoe and my human boys would die if I put a bow in Bronx hair (like he would let me.)

| We love our little boy Teddy more than anything in this whole world. We had orginally set out looking for a female as well, but we would not trade this little guy for any amount of money and we have never once regreted not getting a female. The post above about following your heart is probably the best advice because while I wasn't interested in a male this little guy stole our hearts. I think both come with their draw back in regard to their sex if you want to be technical. Little boys can mark and little girls have the heat issues but both can be taken care of with spaying and neutering making either a prefect addition to the family.

| If I have to choose.... ... It is almost like asking one whom do you love the most your mom or your dad. Cannot say ! BUT what would make my choice easier is the fact that Yorkies have such nice silky hair (I've got a boy and a girl)that when the boy lift his leg he pee on his hair. It stinks a bit then and becomes sticky. Though personality wise I must say that the boys got more of an attitude than the softer little girlies. But for the sake of grooming etc I think it will be better girly. ... ... ... But dont ask me to choose between my two precious doggies !!!

| I wish I could go see both the puppies, but they are in GA and I am in NC. My breeder is wonderful and she has agreed to meet us half way, so I won't get a chance to see all the puppies. Do you have any websites with the boys clothing or do you get them at a local store? Erin |

| They are all different and have different personalities, the only thing is my male was the easiest to potty train and he does not mark in the house I have 2 females and they were harder to potty train imo took a little longer for them, I have a male pup about 9wks now and he is staying dry and likes to poop outside just like my other male is going to be a fast learner, no matter what you get you will fall in love and will not care what sex it is, this is a wonderful breed with the biggest personality, I love all mine the same but in a different way, they all have special things about them that we love. |

| Erin, General Patton is very affectionate, loves to cuddle and be loved. He is playful with me and Bella. We have been in the same predicament, as I wanted a girl, but by choice decided on a male. I wouldn't want to change my decision. Now, I may get a female Yorkie later, but I have a female Smooth Fox Terrier. I know you can't see them both because they are far away, but if you really want a girl, I think you should have what you want. I wouldn't want you to regret having decided on a boy later on. I love my GENERAL PATTON! |
