Honestly, I don't think it's "cruel", yet I wouldn't do it. BUT think of this...yes, we humans who have our ears pierced have to worry about it getting ripped out just as a dog would. But dogs would be more apt to scratch it off, hence ripping it out. And what about the after care? You'd have to twist it and clean it with hydrogen peroxide and put on Neosporin. And then what if it gets infected? If it does and/or starts itching when it begins to heal, guaranteed the dog will try to scratch it! So, in conclusion, I don't think it's cruel per say, unnecessary worrying and ultra bothersome to the dog, yes.

| Well, maybe not. Who's to say that a dog's ear hole wouldn't close up quickly? I know the ear is not a muscle, but look at human tongue piercings. They close up very fast when a stud is removed. But, I guess we won't know unless somebody does it.

| sorry, but I think it's a crazy idea. Clothes serve a purpose (warmth). Collars/harnesses serve a purpose (identification). Shoes serve a purpose (warmth and foot protection). Even tattoos serve a purpose (identification). Top knots serve a purpose (keeping hair from irritating eyes). A stud earring serves no purpose except to fit a person's idea of what beauty should be. Your Yorkie is beautiful already. I suggest that if you like stud earrings, get another one for yourself. Don't inflict this on your dog. |

| I DISAGREE w/ the comment above (alisonj)... CLOTHES SERVE WHAT PURPOSE - A dog has its own coat for warmth ?!? And a lot of us dress them whether its cold or hot... Shoes serve NO PURPOSE either... Earrings have the same purpose as clothes and definately shoes - which is because U want it, not your dog... I mean if our pups could speak, Im sure they would tell us all they dont want any of it (ie,top knots, clothes, shoes, tail cutting, spayed etc...) Im sure there was a time, that a bow on a dog was "inhumane" or cruel to some, but now we look at it as normal... Bottom line is that - the times are changing... be open to change.... What can you do ??? Nodda!

| I would never pierce my dogs ears because I'm sure it can hurt them while it's being done...and I would never experience my dogs to go through pain for beauty (even though that's very common for humans to do ). Also, like others mentioned, what if it gets ripped out? |

| lol i guess i will put my 2 cents in i used to think dressing dogs was soo dumb but then i got my yorkies and I began to do it and now i feel differently about it. But i do admit that i dont do it to keep them warm i mean yeah like i jacket or raincoat for winter or when its raining to keep them warm but in the summer we dress them in pretty dresses and swimsuits. Ear piercing i cant say i would do it to my dogs but i dont think people are cruel for doing it but it is for looks even tho it may set your dog apart for identification purposes it is mainly for looks just like clothes. I dont think its too much different then tail docking or ear cutting. But i do find it different then a humans ear. We hopefully bathe more than we bathe our dogs lol so therefore they run close to the ground and get dirt and all kinds of things on their ears and it sometimes sits till the next week (if you bathe once a week) even if you do clean it, if all the other hair on his body is dirty then its gonna get dirty all over. So im not saying its a bad idea but i do think its more prone for infection and/or slower healing. |

I have never heard of such...I actually thought this was a joke when I read the title. Identification purposes? Try microchipping. | |

| Haha..I really thought this was a joke, too! Why in the WORLD would you do something UNNECESSARY and PAINFUL to your dog because you think it's "cute?" I can't believe half of the people on here agree with it or think it would be ok! And I can't seem to figure out how dressing up a dog might be PAINFUL?!
