CRAZY????? Earpiercing Hi I am thinking of having a stud in my Shiloh's one ear, right on the upper part of the ear where it is normally shaved clean, she is still a baby and will wait until she is a little older. PLEASE I have not done it yet and am still toying with the idea. Is it cruel and should I rather leave it. Is there someone that's done this before?? Thanks Linda Shiloh and Benji |
I would be concerned that the little one would rip it out with his claws. I couldn't do it. Just my opinion. |
Personally, I think it would be cruel. What if it gets ripped out while she is playing with another dog? Or it catches on something? Or gets infected? Its not something I would every consider doing. |
I'd be afraid it might get ripped out. |
I've only saw this once, and my first reaction was shock and then I thought but then I wondered is it really any different or any more painful than when we do it to ourselves???...I would never do it to any of my pets, it's just not for me, but the first concern I had was if it got caught on something or if they play with another pet would it get torn out? It just seemed to be more of a worry than what it was worth and another way for people to be "different" than everyone else.....I'd would like to see other opinions on this...... |
Ear Piercing Hi, thanks for all the replies, I also think that it might get ripped when she play around. I would rather not do it and was just wondering if it was ever done. Thanks:p |
It really is so different from humans because their little ears are so much more delicate that humans. They are very thin. Yes, my first concern would be that it could get ripped. I know that so often children have infections, and my daughter had her ear lobe ripped slightly. With such a little thing, even if he scratched at his ear, it could get ripped and infected quite easily. Can I ask why you are thinking about doing it? |
Ear Piercing Shiloh is so cute, I want her to look like a little girl, I was just thinking that it would be something different, but I must say that I have my doubts and know that it could cause problems, I was thinking of something very small, like a little diamond, not big or bulky. It is just a thought and would certainly not do it against my vets advise or help. I love her so much and would not harm her on purposes. She is a real little lady! Thanks for all the advise I appreciated it, and don't worry I am not a cruel person!! :p |
To me its no different than a tatoo....even if the earring is taken out the hole will remain and could be a good identifying tool? Maybe I'm wrong but my tatoos were much more painful than my ear piercing so I dont see it being cruel either. Just my opinion tho. I have thought about it for Bella myself but she rips bows out of her hair and and just does not like anything on her, so I dont think it would work for her but if your baby doesnt seem to mind ear being taped them i would think it would be fine. I would use a ball and much shorter post with flat backing to keep from snagging. they do have earings that have a ball that screws on for a back too like for belly buttons that wouldnt catch on things. |
I've seen it before and it was really cute but I was concerned with infection or the pup taking it out. The lady said she had it done while the puppy was 10 weeks old and trained her not to mess with it. She said at that age it doesn't hurt them. I was trying to see how she got it to stay in but couldn't tell. |
This is just my opinion, but I would Never do that to a dog...It's not natural. Dogs play, and I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't get ripped out. |
I've had conversations with people before about piercing a dog's ears...but never though about actually doing it. I would never do that to a dog. It's not fair to put holes in their body when they can't choose if they want it or not - just like I don't like people piercing baby's ears. They should at least wait until the child can decide for herself if she wants it or not. I just don't think it's a good idea to pierce a dog's ears.. |
Sounds cute but I woouldn't do it. Just my opinion. I'd be afraid if other dog try to chew it off or something... But it sounds really cute!!! |
My Opinion------------- Does anyone know what a Black Russian Terrier is? Well, I promised my bitch that if she achieves her CH. in AKC, which she most certainly will easily, then I'll have a quarter karat diamond stud pierced into her left ear near the base in the front so that while she's in the heel position it can be seen by all. I think it's just fine if that's what you want to do. Just don't over do the size of the ear ring in proportion to the size of the dog. You'll have to teach him/her to not mess w/ it initially just like a child and after awhile, it'll be nothing to them. I say go for it! (by the way, the grand thing is that I can continue to show my girl in conformation beyond her CH. despite the additional hole in the ear because her hair will cover it when the post isn't in.) |
Oh, if your dog like to rub and roll, just be sure to not leave the ear ring in all the time. Save it for special occassions or when you two are out and about together. If you are the type of person to go to dog parks, use your noggin and take it out then. If during the healing phase you want to keep something in so the hole doesn't close, you might try fishing line looped through and use tape to cover it like a bandaid and every night clean and pull the loop through so it heals properly. Again, just like a child. I don't think of this as any different from docking a dogs tail that you are neither going to work in the field or show in the ring. Similarly w/ ear croppings. Further, if you were to have it pierced and god forbid your pup was ever stolen, there is now just one more way to identify your dog...not to be done because of that, but it just happens to be so. |
