and Cows have ears "pierced" not by choice or for superficial reasons.

I think having a dogs ears pierced is absolutley stupid, it would serve no purpose at all, and it would cause pain to the dog, wether its 10 seconds or 20 minutes of pain you are still causing pain to your dog.

I dont think tail docking or ear clipping is neccasary either, its just all about appearance and i know sure as anything that my babies, with their full tails and full non pierced ears are the most beautiful yorkies on the planet.


never in a million years would i have my dogs ears pierced it would be an accident waiting to happen.

i had my ears pierced at 10 months of age and i have no problem with children having their ears pierced, but animals are animals not toys

Really? Earrings on a dog? I think that is ridiculous, but I guess everyone is entitled to an opinion. What happens though when your dog is at a park or playing somewhere with another dog and the earring gets ripped out? I just would not do this, I find it sort of useless and cruel...

Sure tail docking, etc is the same, but here is the thing once the tail is docked it is not going to have the potential to cause future injury...An earing can rip the ear pretty easily.

Here's London with her magnetic earrings. They are a little big cause my mom bought them but something a little smaller would be nice. She doesn't even mess with them.

aww london is such a sweetie! and magnetic earrings are a much better idea aslong as they dont irritate your baby.

I still personally see no point to it at all, but each to their own right!

aww thank you! No, she doesn't wear them, it was just for the pics. My mom bought them for me and said i could use them for London but i would think she would lose them.

Your dogs are beautiful! Their tails seem to kind of curl around and are really lovely. Max's tail was docked, but I leave the hair long, because I think it's really pretty.

Thanks for the article. It's very interesting. I had to laugh at the nonsense we humans surround ourselves with - tail docking, for example, as a controversy. (I don't think your point is nonsense at all, by the way - just the concept that we argue about the most amazing things). There doesn't seem to be any real with reason for doing it. I thought breed standard was universal. I guess not!

I had an Irish Setter who would point when my daughter was a baby and she would pull herself up to a standing position on his back and tail. He was a sweet, sweet boy, the breed is considered working dogs and their tails are magnificent.

I think if I wanted an earring in my dog's ears, there are little stick-on fake jewels. If you buy really small ones, I can't see that it would hurt the dog even if they did eat it. God only knows what Max finds in the grass during the summer that I don't see him eating - he's so close to the ground he sneaks things in his mouth.

And here's "Ava", the girl I got in from Hungary. She stayed too small for me to compete w/ in conformation as planned (3 lbs at 19 months), but as you can see she still has her tail.
