Sometimes we do "wrong" simply because it is too taxing, challenging, threatening,or uncomfortable to "bother" to do right; & it's just plain wrong. I wanted to use the excuse of, hey she's young... but it really doesn't matter how young you are. You wanted a dog, you saw the dog & now you will purchase the dog....that's quite a dilemma your in...you say,I know it's wrong but...it's always that "but" that gets in the way....what's done is done...I understand your wanting the dog, it's just so sad the circumstances of where the poor little thing came from, this seems to be a bittersweet purchase for you & that's sad...I really hope he turns out to be healthy & lives a long & happy life w/ you...Good luck....

| I was trying to educate for several posts. But when she said she already knew all that and was buying the puppy anyway - well, I just can't sit back and say "congrats on your new puppy" when she's doing something wrong

EXACTLY ! It's called "hypocrisy" to say something like that in the same time with "I know about PM/I hate PM"

I didn't feel that I was bashing her for buying the puppy, it's a public forum and I definitely have an opinion, so I spoke my mind.

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Many people who buy in Pet stores have no idea where puppies come from - and I can understand that - but can't understand knowingly supporting puppy mills. I understand the pull of a cute puppy ....but the bigger picture will NEVER change if everyone went ahead and ignored what happens to the 'parents' of these dogs... and to whoever said a small group will never make a difference - small groups grow into LARGE groups and yes they can - look at PETA - they started small. Look at all the companies stepping away from Animal Testing... it you believe in something - follow your heart. sorry - I just had to say that Do us a favor - since you're getting this puppy regardless - please tell your friends about Puppy mills and where the dogs sold came from and good luck with your puppy |

I find what your saying a bit harsh and your making this person fell guilty buying her puppy. It is the government you should be talking too. Write a letter to your local congressman complaining about puppymills. Not all pet stores sell sick puppies. I understand what you are trying to get across but not buying from a pet store will not put the puppymills out of business unless the entire population stops and that is not going to happen. The government can stop this IF THEY WANTED. Did you ever stop and think about the $ being sent the government's way from these sales? It's called TAX and that is why pet stores are allowed to sell puppies. Your taking your frustration out on the wrong people. Write the government. It is so easy to shut a puppymill down if they wanted too. Every pet store has an invoice where the puppy came from. IF the law wanted to find out and shut it down how easy is it to do so. They choose to close their eyes. Buddy is from a pet store and is healthy. He is not from a puppymill! I refuse to feel guilty because I purchased him. When I read the horror stories on this site regarding buying puppies from some breeders it's not any different. Your taking a chance either way. The important thing is to educate yourself in either area. Who are you to judge anyone and where they buy their puppy? I think you went a bit overboard. I would be the first one in line if I could shut the pet stores down but it just ain't gonna happen without the government stepping in to help. These poor innocent animals should not have to suffer. If they are healthy they deserve a home like any other dog from a breeder. We are all intitled to our opinion and this is mine! Do you really call yourself an animal lover?

hehe..you always say the right things...the right way. I agree 100% with you....everyone makes a difference. period. and to the one who said that you can't see knowingly buying from a puppy mill after saying you hate puppy mills...i agree also. i don't understand supporting them. like i said previously, why not just go up to your nearest puppy mill and hand them a few hundred bucks and say "I love what you're doing here...keep it up". to me, this is no different. i hate that the puppies have to live the lives they are damned to. it sucks big time. i wish it were illegal in every way shape and form. i have spent countless hours, countless sleepless nights trying to find a way that I can make a difference and make people more aware of this stuff...and help to pass laws to make this stuff STOP. I would love nothing more than to do this. but i have to make sure that my ducks are 100% in a row before exposing my entire family to scrutiny from those against what i am trying to do before going with it. but one day...I will. I have such a passion for how these animals are treated. and to me, paying them to keep it up...I just don't see how anyone can do it. but, she is obviously getting this pup...and we all want this pup to be a part of the YT family, right?? I know I do. so let's try and love her through this and help her in any way we can. and let's all pray for Oliver and his new mommy. I do hope he prospers in life and can be a very happy and healthy puppy.

Everyone has already given you excellent advice. I won't get into the whole puppymill history with you (even though I am totally against buying from pet stores). So I'll just say good luck and god bless you and little Oliver. PS - Pets Mart sells a spray that you can spray onto a wee wee pad to attract the dog to use it. Check it out, it may help.

| I don't support puppy mills and I want to make that clear - I have a mix I bought from a breeder w/ yorkies and maltese and we got our oops litter hence our baby mix. I read a lot on this forum about making sure your puppies are well-bred and AKC, but AKC gets 80%, yes 80%! of their business from puppy mills - that is something that breaks my heart! I would never ever buy from a pet store, but I do hope the puppy you get is healthy and does not cause heartbreak. When I was in college I worked at a mall that had a pet store - I would go in there on my break and look at the puppies and feel so bad for them, but I knew not to buy them - I hear many horror stories from a family friend who is a Vet - kennel mites, kennel cough all kinds of things. One thing I would do is ask to hold the puppies (they always let me - probably hoping for a sale) they would let me take the pup to a back room and I would play with him/her for my entire break - I kinda felt like I was giving the puppy a chance to walk on a real floor and some time to socialize. I even tried calling the Humane Association after seeing a maltese with what looked like sores and hair loss that was 5 months old, but I never got a real response. Here is some good info to read up on! http://www.friendsofanimals.org/prog...sic-facts.html |

| i just wanted to say that i truly love all of you who are against mills... so many ppl out there know about them and dont care take my moms coworker she's a teacher she meet my coco and feel in love... she then asked me where she could buy a pup like this i wasnt going to give her coco's breeder because she came from a mill so i told her coco's story and about this site and the great breeders that are on it and the a.k.c breeder's list... and the next week she goes into a petshop after being informed about them and gets a yorkie brings it home and 3 days later calls me telling me there was something wrong with the puppy that it walked funny and was pooping out blood wouldnt eat and i hate to say it but i told her i told you so and to take her to the vet... she ended up spending a gang of money and the puppy is still sick the doctor says its probably not going o make it... when i talked to her bout the puppy dieing she was just like i'll go get another one i know that the lady is wealthy so money aint an issue i just cant under stand why she wont get puppy from a reputable breeder??? ugh |

| ha-ha-ha. so WHY she is wealthy !!! i was too naive also when i bought my Jessica from a wealthy house. I thought the same. This is the biggest mistake because she is puppy miller !!! she makes a lot of money by mass producing puppies. She brings all puppies to her clean and beautiful house just to impress potential buyers, but that's not the same place where her dogs live http://seattle.citysearch.com/review/37537077 Last edited by omichka; 07-19-2007 at 12:53 PM. |

| ....instead of hijacking this young ladies thread and using it as a place to discuss the horrors of puppy mills. She may have just gotten a new puppy today, and your chance to help her in the future is probably lost. She'll be another who says "I know about Yorkie Talk, and I avoid it".
