Hi Everyone,
Well I haven't posted on here in a very very long time but I have very exciting news (to me at least!). I am picking up the cutest little Yorkiepoo in the whole world!

I have wanted a Yorkie for about 3 years but being that I just graduated from college I couldnt really afford one. So I have been looking at mixes for a year or so and thought I had my mind set on a Morkie. Until yesterday... I went to a pet store as I was wasting some time and absolutely fell in love with a little boy yorkiepoo. They had 2 other full bred yorkies in there but I loved this one. I went back twice yesterday just to see him. I almost convinced myself not to get him but decided I was crazy.. Ive always wanted one and he is PERFECT!

So I went back today and played with him for about 30 minutes and fell even more in love. I know some of you think I am crazy for not just waiting until I can get a full bred Yorkie but there is just something about this little guy. I'm going to get another one as soon as I can (and as soon as I move out) so he'll have a little friend. I live with my parents right now and we have 2 miniature dachshunds so he'll have someone to play with for now!

Okay well I have typed a novel now but I am just so excited!!! The question I really wanted to ask was.. What kind of potty training has worked for yall? I was thinking about getting him a kennel and leaving them in there when I leave and he can't come with and then taking him out when I'm home but I don't know if that'll be good. Please offer any advice you may have. Thank you SOOO much!!

I don't think you're crazy for getting a "yorkiepoo" but I do think you need to think long and hard about getting him from a petstore....I'm really not trying to be mean, but do you know about puppymills?

No reputable breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store. Most pet store puppies are from puppy mills. Learn about puppy mills here: http://prisonersofgreed.org/ Please don't support them! :( :( :(

Yes I do know about puppy mills. I looked through Pet Finder and all of the local newspapers. There were no Yorkiepoos in this area (that I could afford anyway).

I agree that puppy mills are bad and do terrible things to dogs but I can't resist this dog. He is too cute. Yes, puppymills are bad but there are dogs from there. If I don't buy it someone else will. And if no one else does (which I HIGHLY doubt) then it will just sit there in the pet store. Either way it is a dog that deserves an amazing home. I don't know if that made any sense but I hope you understand what I meant. I'm sorry for buying a puppy mill dog because I have always been against it, but I can't let him sit there.

Anybody have any potty training tips now?

Congrats. I think you have to do what your heart says. As for potty training, I was lucky that Murfee was very easy to train plus I got to stay home with him. I just learned "the look" and would take him outside and praise him when he did his business. When he had accidents I would tell him no and then take him outside. I know it's much harder for the people who are gone a lot so I can't give that kind of advice. Enjoy your new little bundle. Patty and Murfee

I do understand what you mean, I wouldn't do it, but its none of my business. Just make sure that you get a health guarantee, because puppy mill dogs tend to be sick, or have diseases that pop up later in life.

As far as potty training goes, crate training usually works really well. I'll get back to you with some information. :D

Congratulations on your new yorkiepoo!!! I can understand what you're saying. You don't want to support puppymills, but at the same time, this little baby needs a loving home. It's not his fault. But, I would talk to the pet store about a health guarantee, and take the puppy to the vet for a health check immediately after buying him.

As for potty training, we used pee pads to train since it was getting close to winter time. It worked very well for us. It really depends on your schedule and lifestyle and how many hours a day someone is home with the pup.

I'm single and work full time. My boys use potty pads during the day while I'm at work and go outside also. Both my boys are both neutered but still "mark" sometimes, so I've been thinking about gating them in the kitchen while I'm at work. I just haven't had the heart to do it yet, they are used to sitting and looking out the window all day. I guess I have to decide which is worse, cleaning up the occasional marking, or my thinking I'm a bad mom for keeping them from their window to the world for 8 hours. Good luck. I have a shih poo named Oliver!! If I had it to do over, I would gate them while I'm gone so if there is any marking it would be on linoleum. Congrats on your new baby!!

Yes I am definitely getting him checked immediately. I am picking him up at 1:30 and he has a vet appointment at 2:15 with testing for parasites/worms and everything. If anything is wrong with your puppy they refund your money and take the puppy back unless it has worms they will pay for the medication to fix the problem. And they have a one year health guarantee. That isnt very long considering dogd can live for 15 years.. but it is better than nothing! I know this isnt an ideal circumstance but I have known several other people who have purchased their dogs from the same place (full bred Yorkies included) and they are still healthy to this day. Not saying that it never happens, because Im sure it does, but *hopefully* everything will work out good.

PLEASE don't buy a dog from a petstore! If you know about puppy mills how can you possibly support them? What if this puppy you get has major issues down the road? You say you can't afford a purebred but what if this petstore puppy ends up having health problems that cost you a lot of money in vet bills? A lot of petstore puppies have major behavioral problems and are extremely hard to potty train because they are raised in cages and used to pooping and peeing in their crate. Please please please reconsider this purchase. There are breeders all the time listing mixes in classified ads! I don't agree with breeding mixed breed dogs period as I think only BYB and puppymills purposely do this but I'd much rather see you go to a breeder's house than buy from a petstore. No good breeder will sell to petstores. Please do research on puppymills and petstore puppies and do not buy this puppy.

Congratulations!! I know you are soooo excited. As for potty training remember lots of praise when little oliver goes where you want him too as opposed to a lot of yelling when he has an accident Cant wait to see pics:)

And please don't believe the petstore employees when they tell you they get their dog from local breeders. Do you really think they are going to admit they get their dogs from puppymills?

Have you looked on Petfinders classified ads?

Often there are adoptable yorkies and other small dogs that people can't keep for whatever reason and need new homes for them.
