| Hot Pavement = Hot Paws? Summer is definitely here in Southern California! Do you think it hurts your babies feet to walk on hot pavement? I was just wondering for future reference. |

| I would think so, but maybe if they walk on pavement regularly they probably have tougher pads. Can dogs get callouses like we do? This is a good question. You'd think they would blister like our feet do. I'll be interested in what people have found. Mine don't go on walks on the sidewalk in the neighborhood because of too many irresponsible owners with unleashed, aggresive dogs. Too many close calls, we don't chance it anymore, thankfully I have a large fenced in backyard so they can get plenty of exercise.

| Yup, try it barefoot to test it -- too hot for you -- to hot for their little paws. |

| I agree~ if it's hot on the pavement, it's probably too hot for their paws. I live in the desert, and there's no way I'll walk Max unless it's before 7 am during the summer. Everything heats up really fast here, and a lot of the area we have to walk (unless I drive somewhere away from home) doesn't even have sidewalks; it's just ashphalt. Especially if they aren't used to walking on hot pavement, and who is? Even I am not, and I go barefoot around the house and yard a lot. Also, you probably know this, but it's amazing how hot these little guys get even after a little bit, so if you're going to go somewhere for a walk, make sure you take some water with you (Max usually won't DRINK any, but I can at least pour it over him to cool him off a little). And yeah....it's definitely getting hot in S. CA!!!

| I don't know about callouses but I know my husband and I have noticed sadly that Tucker's soft baby feet have started to get rougher since he's gotten older and started to go for walks on pavement. I definitely think that dogs have a higher tolerance to heat on their feet than humans do though so I'm not sure if the barefoot test would work. Think about it, they don't wear shoes so their feet are already less sensitive than ours simply out of neccessity plus they walk over all sorts of surfaces like rocks and gravel without feeling pain. I think there is a certain point that is too hot of course but I'm pretty sure your pup would let you know.

| Definitely..... your yorkies little pads on the bottom of the feet can even burn/blister !! I always check the pavement with my feet. Even if the pavement is cool, if we are going to be doing any marathon type walks (we go to a lot of campgrounds with paved trails & roads), I will use Paw Wax. It doesn't help with the hot pavement, but will protect their pads a little from getting rough.

| Upon reading Shelby and Seymour's post, I did a little search and found a product that claims to indeed help with hot pavement...probably worth a shot! http://www.pawstogo.com/index.asp?Pa...ROD&ProdID=330

| I'm sure the hot concrete does hurt their little paws. When it's really hot out, I keep Jake in the grass in the yard or wait until it's cooler to take him out. |
