| Changing to reclaimed bed pads After reading http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83156 I ordered several reclaimed bed pads to switch Wickett from the regular pee pads. He's been home and on the pee pads for 2 weeks now, and the new pads arrived today. I put the pad in the same place as his pee pad, sprayed the training spray on it, and placed Wickett on it so he could make the connection. So far he's sniffed it, layed on it, but not gone to the bathroom on it. He quickly ran into the carpet and ran in to pee on it. I tried rubbing the paper towel that I used to clean up the pee on the new pad so he'd make the association, but so far nothing. So.....is there anything else that I can do to help him make the transition easier? I really love the thought of the reusable pads, so I'd like to make this work for us. Thanks for your help guys! |

| maybe the reclaimed pads have a different odor that he doesn't like. |

| gee, i started using those a few months ago and haven't had any problems except training my baby puppies before they go to their new home. You are talking about the washable ones, right? |

| Gizmo would not use the washable piddle pads at first. Then I remembered that he had been paper-trained! So, I put him on newspaper and he piddled! Yea!! So I put the newspaper on TOP of the piddle pad and he piddled just fine. I gradually reduced the size of the sheet of newspaper until he piddled directly onto the pad. Since then, he's done well. I still put in a small piece of newspaper whenever I wash the pad, but I think I can stop doing that soon. You might try the same thing with the disposable pads.

| My boys transitioned from chux pads to cloth baby diapers quite well. But then again, they also use the occasional throw rug, too. Good luck. You're probably already doing this, but make sure you're putting them in the same place. I like the newspaper suggestion, or whatever you were using before. If it was scented pads, put one on top so they get the feel of the pad with the familiarity of the old ones. Stick with it. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it.

| I was using puppy pee pads before, so maybe I'll do this. With what I did, I have managed to get him to pee on his new pads 3 times so far. Yay! Poop.....that's a different story. We start puppy training classes at PetSmart on Wednesday, so hopefully this will help. This is my first puppy, so I'm a bit clueless, but trying to fix that by reading everything I can find. | I just spoke to my vet about puppy classes and they warned me to wait until Gizmo had ALL of his shots....three rounds of d??pp (everything but lepto) and his rabies. He said full immunity won't kick in until then and Parvo is really bad this year. Just FYI, but you probably already know this. OOOOh...let me know how the puppy class goes! I am curious if it was worth your time and money. Thanks!

| I put the disposables on top of the reclaimed pad for a while, then just stopped when I ran out of them. The girls did great, though my bedroom carpet was fair game until we ripped it out Now they rarely go off of the pads Oh, and I tried that spray too, it did NOTHING It's just going to take time for them to get the hang of it, but using the disposables on top seemed to do the trick for my girlies

As for the class itself, I really liked it. It's clicker training, using positive reinforcement. Our only problem was that Wickett was lazy and just sat next to me. The washable pee pads are now being used regularly for pee. For some reason, the poop is touch and go, with more poop happening OFF the pad. He's just so small that even if he's in the same room as us we sometimes don't see him. Sneaky guy. | |

Yea, we have the same issue. The pee is fine...spot on the piddle pad 90% of the time. The poo...maybe 5% of the time (IF we're lucky!) lol
