My boys transitioned from chux pads to cloth baby diapers quite well. But then again, they also use the occasional throw rug, too. Good luck. You're probably already doing this, but make sure you're putting them in the same place. I like the newspaper suggestion, or whatever you were using before. If it was scented pads, put one on top so they get the feel of the pad with the familiarity of the old ones. Stick with it. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it.
