anyone out in TX who wants a free dog and is willing and able to put up the money for initial medical expenses??

Man I wish I could come and take one! I live WAY too far away! This is a very sad story! Im glad she has decided to give them all up bc she CLEARLY cannot handle the responsibility that comes with them! Its hard to see that kind of side of your best friend!

Are you willing to pick up the little guys and hold them for a few days to see if anyone on here would like to 'adopt' them?

GOOD LUCK! You are a wonderful person for what you did for those babies while you were there! At least now you know they got bathed, brushed and fed recently!

Hi Buttercup, I know this must be so hard for you. I was wondering if maybe you had time to go talk to her. I mean sit her down and tell her what you see and know. Tell her that what she is doing is animal abuse. Tell her that having dogs means having to take the responsibility for them. Tell her that the pup with heartworm is in pain and sick and she needs to get him help. Tell her that them living in their own feces & urine will bring the fleas back and bring them MORE pain. Tell her that you are her best friend and you know she is a good person, but right now shes doing a not so good thing that she needs to make right. Tell her to get those pups medical help and then get them off to good homes. Either by selling them OR by giving them up to a rescue. Tell her that she needs to do the right thing for them before it gets worse. Maybe you dont need to threaten her with calls to shelters and her condo complex, maybe she'll hear you and your words will sink in and she'll do the right thing. (Is she broke broke or something??)

If she get defensive and mean while you are being nice, then tell her that she is leaving you no choice but to call a rescue to come pick them up and that you love her but you will not tolerate the abuse to these poor animals.

Good Luck!!

Does she know how PAINFUL BOTH ARE ? While fleas can be treated - heartworms are a VERY PAINFUL parasite and shame on her for her cruelty ! Those poor dogs !
I totally agree with that! They (her and her sister) are paying $2500 a month a for 1br/2 restroom w/den apartment and she can't afford to take care of the pets.

Well, I spoke with her and we got in a verbal argument. She thinks I'm being too sensitive on these animals and said they don't need that much attention. The only attention she give them is to tell them to shut up when they bark, cry, wine.

When asked what she was going to do after I leave without them, she replied 'what else should I do? I'm doing everything I can for them as it is' I threatened to call the police and she starts to cry. (I'm a very sensitive and soft-hearted person) I started crying too because she was crying and I felt bad that I was the reason she was crying. After convincing her that she could go to jail and the result of that could be locked up in jail for animal abuse, she agreed that I could take care of the dogs for her.

I know that I am in no shape to take care of those dogs. My Godmother, who has a disability and can't work always wanted pets to keep her company throughout the day. I asked if she was willing to take care of them, of course all the expenses would be out of my pocket (actually, my husband's) and she agreed to keep 2 of the 3. So one of the three, which is the maltese is still at her place.

I know what you guys will think. Why not take all? I don't deal with stress very well and I'm trying the best that I can, at least I think I am. I will try and talk her into giving the other one up to a rescue. I just hope you guys don't judge me because there is so much that I can do and so much that I can't do. The thing that is most important to me is what I can do rather than what I can't do because that is something I can't control.

I need an update asap!!! I want to get the word out at my husband's job. I know we can find homes for these babies quickly!!!! My heart is breaking just thinking about these babies!!! I just want to cry when I think how close I must be to them right now and I can't get to them because I don't know where they are. They need an advacate to speak for them!

Let's get them out of there! We have too many YT'ers here in the Houston area that would do anything to get them to a safe place and a responsible loving home.

I have two dtrs in college, so I know what you're going through. Please let us help you! I know this is breaking your heart too.

I asked my husband if he was willing to help out these little dogs, all of which is under 6lbs., and he told me to do what's right. But what is the right thing to do? She is my best friend and I could never imagine her doing this but I guess you won't know a person until you live with them. My husband said the maximum amount he will put out the help these dogs is only $500. Is that enough to cover the vet bills and medications for all 3? After I take them to the vet, what do I do? I'm in no shape to take care of 4 dogs and a 4-year-old son and college.

I have an exam tomorrow and I can hardly study knowing that I left those poor little creatures at her house in that stinky little kennel. I suggested that she get 2 expens, combine it and let them run around and enjoy themselves when she can't watch them but she said they're okay where they're at. I offered to buy it for her but she refused!

I'm sorry, but are you freakin' kidding me?

CALL someone. You don't have to take them to the vet whoever you call will.

Someone stated that how could I focus on my studying at a time like this. Well, I'm at the peak of my college years. Attending pharmacy school w/a 4-year old is not such an easy thing and I know it might sound bad but I can't let this opportunity go by because of what she (the so-called friend) did.

I really care about them (the dogs) and I really have to focus on my studying and along with studying I will try and help them in any kind of way. It's just a matter of time that we're talking about.

I just don't want anyone to judge me and think that all I care about are my studies.

I spoke with her about caring for the dog, potty training, and what the future holds for me, her, and the dog. She insists that I come and pick up her dog. Okay so after hours and hours of exhaustive studying (I'm a student), I drove approximately 45 minutes to her place, where she is living with her sister.

When I arrive, she complimented Buttercup A LOT and how nice his hair looks, how silky it is, and how he looks much better in person. Then she started talking about how her other friend who fostered her dogs for 2 weeks abused them and they were infested with fleas so that caused their hair to fall off, etc. When I had enough, I asked her where her dogs were (Yorkie, Maltese, and Papillon). When she told me they were in the restroom, I asked if I could take them out. Her reply was 'I don't think you want to because they stink really bad. I haven't taken a bath for them for 3 weeks'

I thought she was joking. When I walked down the hall towards the restroom, about 10 feet away was when I smelled the stinch. When I entered was a whole different story. SHE KEEPS ALL THREE IN A KENNEL that is about the 16x4. She doesn't let them out the pee, to poop, (saying that it was too much of a hassle) lets just say she doesn't let them out at all. NO WONDER WHY THEY STINK!

I offered to clean and bathe the dogs for her, comb all the mats out and clean out the kennel. What I found out when I bathing each was that they were all malnourished. You can actually see their BONES! I asked if she feeds them and she said only once a day. So I fed them and they ate like they never ate their whole entire lives. The dogs were so happy to be out of that kennel and she wondered why they were so hyper!

I offered to take both the maltese and yorkie (although they were bald and nasty looking) and then she tells me they all have ringworms and one have heartworms. I left without them and can tell that they were sad that I left. I didn't take them with me because I feared that Buttercup would catch whatever they had and worms might not be the only thing they have.
This is so sad and HORRIBLE!!! Poor babies

My girlfriend had a boyfriend that had custody of his little girl. She told me he was abusing his daughter of 4 & didn't know what to do. I took it upon myself & called the police & reported it. They even brought up charges on my friend for not reporting it. OH WELL, were not friends any more. This was wrong & so is what your friend is doing. I wouldn't have a problem turning in my sister if she was abusing her kids or dog. WRONG is WRONG. It wouldn't be the 1st time I've reported on people that abuse.

Someone here on YT offered to try and help out. She lives in Waco. I'm not familiar with Texas but I'm sure there is someone close to where your friend lives that would be willing to get these dogs out of that hell hole if you are unable to. Otherwise you NEED TO contact a rescue / hunt one down and have them pick the dogs up and before Saturday. Elaine

I agree 100%

I think when she saw them all cleaned up she decided to just tell you that so you wouldn't take them. She NEEDS to be slapped in jail, and those pups need to be taken out of there ASAP!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more.

I understand...I'm a college student also and it is hard! You are doing what you can do and we're here for you...I'm sure someone here on YT wouldn't have a problem taking the maltese, we can find it a good home.

I'm confused...you picked up the Yorkie & the Papillon, but not the Maltese?

I'm really not trying to attack you personally...I'm a full-time university student and know the stress of school, but come on! If you were there to pick up the other two why didn't you pick up the Maltese and take it to a rescue!?

I'm just so outraged by this story.

All I can say is that I wish I had the money to travel to Houston right now.

Please make arrangements for the Maltese to get rescued, too. That poor baby. Sometime life comes at you hard, you'll be glad you did the right thing when it's over and hopefully, a happy ending -- minus one "best friend" in your circle.
